How to Plan the Perfect Baby Shower
Babies being born every minute!
Baby Showers are an age-old custom and it seems there is never a shortage of them to attend. What if you are the one planning the event? Want to make it stand out from the rest? Your job really is pretty easy since most Baby Showers are happy events, and everyone is cheerful. Your job is to entertain them, feed them, and keep tabs of the gifts for Mom and Baby. Are you ready?
First Things First
You need to start with the Theme. When choosing a Theme...you need to consider Mom's favorite colors, favorite characters, and more. There is a helpful worksheet on Theme planning at babyshower.com. In fact, they have several printable worksheets. They include a Budget worksheet, a guest list and a menu planner. Getting this all prepared saves a lot of chaos on the day of the party. Once you have the theme picked out, it's time to pick out and send those
Again, there are some free printables, or you can buy the invitations. About has a printable invitation that is cute. It is a Baby Pin Invitation. If you plan to buy the invitations, there are several resources.
Vista Print: I buy my business cards from them. They do good work at a reasonable price. In fact, they normally go out of their way to ensure customer satisfaction.
Stork Avenue has some wonderful invitations as well. Many to choose from at a reasonable price.
Remember you are going to want to stick pretty close to the theme of the baby shower. When the cards arrive, or are ready, mail them to everyone on the guest list at least 10 days in advance.
Banners, decorations, and game planning and favors
Moving right along, it's now time to think about what kind of decoration to have at the shower. Stick with the theme as much as possible, but it doesn't have to be just the theme, it can be the colors the Mother chose on her list as well. Some of the best Baby showers I've been to have had fairly simple decorations, but fun games, and good food. Don't go overboard on the decorations. What are the chances you wll use them again? Normally a banner is appropriate, along with some balloons Streamers are a nice touch as well. Get them ready to be set up the day before, or the morning of the party. The day before is better, because you will have a lot to get done on the actual day of the party.
Game planning can be a headache unless you have some ideas or resources. Remember, you don't want all of the same standard games played at most baby showers, some are tradition, however. One place I know that has great printable games for all occasions is Printable games a-z. Other possiblitlies: Oriental Trading has some tried and true games as well as some new games. OTC also has wonderful decorations for the party!
Party Favors :
To me, this is one of the more fun parts of planning a baby shower. Trying to be unique can be tricky, but never fear! That's what this article is about!
I've found a great site with some fabulous favors. It's called Favor Ideas and they even have these adorable fortune cookies! Check it out, it's a fun site.
One thing you may want to consider is My M&M's. VERY unique! You can pick the colors, the message, and the packaging.
Again, Baby-shower.com comes through again with some ideas for free favors as well as some adorable low cost favors.
For the Crafty Party Planner, there are always the home-made favors. Something crocheted, or cross stitched. Perhaps baby bottles with a crochet warmer over it, and filled with candy (maybe the personalized M&M's?) Keychains or bookmarks are another good party favor. One idea is to buy those "ring pops" that are at most grocery and convenience stores and add them to the favors. If you are ot familiar with Ring Pops, they are a little plastic ring with pacifier shaped candy on them. Imagaination goes a long way here. Mix some free or low cost idea's with some of the idea's that will cost you some money.
Prizes for game winners can be easy. Picture frames from the dollar store, bath sets, and other all purpose gifts. Since you don't know who will be winning which prize, stick with items that most everyone can use. Put all of the prizes into a basket, or bag, and have the winners grab one. Ebay and Amazon, of course, are excellent places to look for gifts. I've listed a few below.

Time to plan the menu!
A nice variety is always nice for a baby shower menu. Unless you plan on serving an entire meal, mix things up. You may have already planned your menu, but if not, here are some suggestions:
Any Variety of the following items are acceptable at a baby shower:
- Deviled Eggs
- deli platter
- cheese platter
- Fruit platter
- Chips and dip
- various salads (potato, macaroni, etc.)
Don't forget the plates and cups (or paper plates and plastic cups) and the napkins. Silverware (or plastic) should be provided for the trays and also for the guests. Serve a cold beverege and a hot beverege. For instance, Coffee and Lemonade. Offer several if budget allows.
If you have had a "Themed" Party and want to stay with that theme, then plan the menu accordingly. For instance, if you went with a "Dora the Explorer" theme, serve some taquito's or some burritos that have been quartered and have a toothpick inserted. Don't forget Boots' Bananas! Well, you get the idea. Try to carry the theme if you can.
