How to Play Scrabble on Your Computer

Download Scrabble Free

Do you enjoy playing scrabble but have a hard time finding someone to play with? You can play scrabble on your computer, androids, iPhones or iPads, at various websites. My favorite place to play is on the application that Facebook provides.

Playing Scrabble online

In order to play on social sites you will first need to have an account on that site. Once your account is up and running do a search within the site for Scrabble.

The scrabble board is the exact same as the original game. There are 100 tiles each ranging from 1 point to ten points, and 2 tiles that are blank allowing you to choose your own letter but do not have a point value. Rules and scoring are identical to the standard game.

When Playing Scrabble On Facebook

Multiplayer

The first thing you need to do is create a game and name it. You then decide on the dictionary you'd like to use and the game speed. You will then have the option to choose if you'd like to play with friends. You'll be able to play with one - three friends. Either do a search under Start New Game or scroll down to find your friends. Click on their picture and click start. An invitation to play will be sent to them. You will then be taken to the game itself and you can start your first play.

Should you choose to play with a random player you can either create your own game or join in a public game.

There is also an option to search for games. Here you can pick your dictionary, game type, number of players and speed of game being slow, medium or fast. If there are available games to join one will pop up for you to play.

One Thing You May Not Like

The one thing you may not like about playing online is that sometimes it can take up to a week to play a complete game. If the person or people you're playing with are not online as much as you are this can become a bit frustrating.

Benefits to playing Scrabble on Facebook

There is a dictionary built into the game, and a tab that you can go to while playing to check to see if the word that you want to use is a legitimate word.

You can take as long as you want to decide on your word to play as there is no timer involved.

As you place your tiles to spell out your word, the score of the word will pop up. This gives you a chance to see if you can score higher points by maybe putting your word elsewhere.

If you have family members or friends that you like to play scrabble with, but you only play when you get together with them, Facebook makes it easy to play with them at anytime.

Each time you play a notice is sent to the person you are playing with to let them know that you've played and it is now their turn.

There is no limit to the number of games you can have going on at one time. So if you happen to be a Scrabble addict play ten different or more games at the same time.

You can download the Scrabble application on your iPhone, iPad or Android and continue to play when you're away from your computer.

Play Scrabble Against the Computer

Some people may feel nervous about playing online Scrabble due to various reasons. If this is the case and you still would like to play on your personal computer there are several CD-ROM games that you can purchase and play either against a computer program or with other players in the house.

Next time you have a family game night include Scrabble.

All of these games are very easily installed and allow you to play at anytime you like.

I haven't played scrabble online before, but I do have a colleague at work who's addicted to it. In fact, he met his current girlfriend through playing it- they've just moved in together, so you never know where a game of scrabble might lead. Thanks for writing this.

Hi Susan, My mother and I play scrabble all afternoon when I visit her. She's a killer 86 year old player. She's staying with my sister at the moment who has JUST got her hooked on Scrabble on her ipad, so there's no stopping her. I'm forwarding them this link. How great.

Fabulous Hub.

Riverfish, I think I've played Lexulous before as that one does sound familiar. I was happy when Facebook finally got the US CA Scrabble game.

Melovy, I started playing scrabble when I was a child and I highly recommend this game for kids. Maybe not the online version but either the CD ROM version or the actual board game.

Hi Susan! Thanks for linking to my Monopoly Game! I shall link back to this Scrabble hub.

I've played Scrabble on the sites you have suggested, but at Pogo.com you can play against the computer for a really fast game. It usually only takes me 15 to 20 minutes to play a game there.

Taking a week to play one game is beyond me. I will lose my attention span too quickly.

I love scrabble! I play online and the board game. It is terrific for kids to help expand their vocabulary too. My kids play with Dave and I and they are 10 and 12 but they learn a lot of words! lol

I also used this with Mick for his rehab therapy when he had to learn things again...it was an awesome way to help him feel confident because he had a large vocabulary. He had trouble counting....so it was a great way to allow him to count small numbers and add them while using the cognitive thought process too, he did really great and I know it helped him!

Excellent hub!

I use to play scrabble at yahoo, in fact I'd play another family member there many times, from their home. It has been awhile, might be fun to look into your options and get started again.

Susan - thanks so much for this..I play scrabble all the time and missed it terribly when I moved to US, coz the application on FB did not allow US and CA internet users to do so..so I switched to Lexulous which is not half as good..now I logged on and found scrabble on FB in US. Great!! There used to be another site called Scrabolous I think , but they shut that down, that was pretty good too.

I love to play Scrabble. I used to belong to a Scrabble club, we played every Tuesday night. We made up a new rule, if we played a word and it was challenged we added 50 points to our score, of course we all spent many hours looking up words, knowing when we played the word, it was in the dictionary..We had a ball. Thank's for the info.

I've always liked scrabble and just downloaded an app on my phone. I never tried playing online, but when or should I say if I have time (as I seem to have too many projects at the moment) I will try it. Voted up.

Susan, I’m bad enough for playing solitaire on the computer, so I better not start on Scrabble too! But it could be a useful way for kids to learn vocabulary and spelling. I shall recommend it to my kids, not that they need any encouragement to play on computers! This is an interesting hub!
