Kinect Games

Updated on June 24, 2010

Microsoft Kinect is the new motion-control device from Microsoft to be used for the Xbox 360. Formerly code-named Project Natal, Kinect will allow you to be able to control video games by moving your body around. The specialized cameras will be able to track all of your movements, and your actions will be translated on screen. You won't have to hold controllers anymore while worrying you may accidentally toss it through your TV screen. You also aren't held down by cables and unnatural movements.

Your Shape Kinect

Your Shape was a mildly popular video game for the Nintendo Wii, that incorporated a camera similar to the Kinect, but not as advanced. The Kinect version of Your Shape will definitely be one of the top fitness games available for the accessory.

Your Shape is a cross between a workout DVD and a personal trainer, allowing you to be able to do a workout from home, while also being able to receive instant feedback on your form, as well as encouragement when you are doing it correctly.

According to the manufacturer, you can "burn calories your way — choose a personal trainer to help you meet your specific fitness goals, take a yoga or martial arts class, or play fun family-friendly minigames. As you exercise, you'll receive specific feedback on your every move, thanks to the game's real-time precise tracking system. You won't notice how hard you're working until you see the results!"

EA Sports Active 2.0 for Kinect

EA Sports on the Wii took the Wii Fit games and exercises to a whole new level. The problem was, you had to use a leg band to put the nunchuk controller in and you had to move in just the right way for the game to measure it.

With EA Sport Active 2.0 for Kinect, you won't need to use controllers. The game will be able to see your various movements, and let you know if you are doing the exercises properly or not.

Due for release on November 16, 2010, EA Sports Active 2.0 will feature a heart rate monitor that will be able to be tracked in the game, allowing you to be able to maximize your workout. The game will also feature a 9-week exercise program, that can adapt to your skill level, so that you'll definitely be pushed in order to get maximum gains, but you won't be overwhelmed by exercises that are out of your league.

Worried about getting bored with the workouts once you have done them all? Well, EA has announced that that you'll be able to download additional workouts via Xbox Live, but there are 70 new exercises in the game as it is.

Dance Masters

From the people who started the video games revolution with Dance Dance Revolution, Konami brings their new Kinect game, Dance Masters.  No mat needed for this, just your amazing (or not so amazing) dance moves.

You'll following along with the dance choreography on screen by doing the poses it tells you to do at a certain time.  If you're able to dance along with the dancers the whole time, that is great and you'll get more points, but it's not necessary to pass a level.

Bowing, turning, stomping, posing and hand motions all combined together make this game look pretty fun.  This game got really great reviews at the E3 2010 expo, even from just regular nerdy guys.  The women in your life (or if you are a woman) will absolutely love this game.

Sonic Free Riders

This game, featuring your beloved SEGA Character Sonic, is a hover-boarding extravaganza, allowing you to move back and forth, and race other people on hover boards. Not only will you have to duck, dodge and turn to avoid the obstacles on the various racing levels, but you'll also have some fun power-ups and weapons to use against your competitors. Just pick up a weapon (in the game of course), and toss it at a competitor by using a throwing or tossing motion.

If your kids have been begging for a pet, but you know that you'll be the one who ends up feeding it, cleaning up after it and taking it for walks, then why not get your child this Kinectimals game, and that will allow them to still have a pet without all of the hassles that a real pet can bring when kids don't take care of the animal.
