LeapFrog My Own Leaptop Review
As parents of two young children, my husband and I try to look for toys and games that don't just entertain our kids. We want toys that engage their creativity and help aid in their language skills, as well.
We are big fans of the LeapFrog company and their learning products.
They truly have done a wonderful job of creating toys that are not only fun for the children, but an educational tool as well.
We have at least half a dozen of their products in our home, with plans to continue to buy more in the near future for Christmas and birthdays.
LeapFrog My Own Leaptop: Parent Review
LeapFrog My Own Leaptop Features
One of my favorite LeapFrog products, is the My Own Leaptop.
If your children are anything like ours, they love to try to play with mommy and daddy's electronic gadgets which never ends well.
So the My Own Leaptop is a perfect distraction for the kids to play with instead of my work computer.
Some of the features that make the Leaptop such a great toy are:
- Ease of Use
One of the greatest attributes of the LeapFrog My Own Leaptop, is the ability to customize the toy to each individual child. Parents can download the LeapFrog Connect application for free and create a parental account that allows you to register accounts for each of your children and their LeapFrog toys.
We have a LeapFrog Connect account and use it for each of our children. It is very easy to setup and use. With the LeapFrog Connect account we were able to customize each of our kids toys with:
- Name Personalization: as the toy is turned on, it says the child's name
- Email: we were able to choose 3 personal emails from a total of 8 that could be customized as to who they were from (i.e. Nanna, Papa, Auntie etc..)
- Songs: we were able to download several songs for each of the kids according to their preference (ABC's for younger child and Twinkle, Twinkle for older)
The toy is available in two colors; green and purple, which is great for our family as we have two children and this makes it easier to tell, which toys are which, without turning them on.
For our family, the next most important characteristic of a toy for our kids is the durability. Whether we are spending $5 or $50, we want to know that the toy is going to last.
We would love to think that our children would use the toy only as intended, but let's be honest, they are kids. The Leaptop is designed for 2 to 4 year olds, 2 to 4 year olds are rough on toys.
Their Leaptops have been dropped (on accident of course), stepped on by the dog, and banged around in their backpacks.
We have had our Leaptops for almost 2 years and they still work as good as the day we bought them.

Ease of Use
This characteristic is as important to the parents, as it is to the kids.
If a toy is too difficult to use, it is not going to hold any kids attention. No parent wants to spend money on a toy that their child isn't going to play with.
The LeapFrog My Own Leaptop has large buttons that are easy for a small child's hands. The screen flips open and close with ease and the power button is easy to locate and use.
Another feature that we like about the Leaptop is the size and portability. The Leaptop is just slightly bigger than a piece of paper and weighs about 2lbs. It fits easily into the kids' backpacks or even my purse.
It is the perfect size to carry to a dr's appointment for those long waits in the waiting room, or take in the car on a long road trip. They fit very easily into car organizer's that hook to the back of the seat for easy storage.
With the last few years, struggling through the worst recession most of us have ever known, price has become extremely important. Many families just can't afford to spend tons of money on toys. So it is important for a toy to not only have all the characteristics mentioned above, but it also needs to be affordable.
With a price point between $19.97 and $21.99, the LeapFrog My Own Leaptop is not only affordable, but worth every penny.
The LeapFrog My Own Leaptop gets our family's stamp of approval. We would definitely recommend purchasing this toy, or any toy from the LeapFrog company.
