Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013: Say Your Praetors (Blue) Challenge Solution

Overview

Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers has become an annual release on XBox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and Steam for fans of Magic. 2013 is the newest iteration of the series, and was the first time the series was released for the iPad as well. One of the popular features of the games has been a series of challenges pitting the player in a pre-designed situation that he/she must figure out how to overcome and achieve victory from the jaws of defeat. In 2013 10 new challenges await to be uncovered...

The sixth challenge is Say Your Praetors. Your opponent controls Five Praetors and you control just one blocker. There are five different ways to win this challenge -- one for each Praetor. In this case you will stand against the Blue Praetor, Jin-Gitaxias.

Step 3: On your turn sacrifice Baneslayer Angel to Sheoldred's ability.

Step 4: Play Avatar of Might

Step 5: Cast the Veteran's Reflexes on Avatar of Might

Step 6: Cast Burst of Speed

Step 7: Cast Niveous Wisps (which you just drew) on Elesh Norn

Re: Pricing. It's a hard point to argue. However I contend that banseile value for pricing entertainment is movie + popcorn/snacks cost (eg. ~$20 for 2.5 hours/person). Yet, playing a decent wargame usually gives something like 5 hours of entertainment to 4 people (i.e. $160 worth of movie value) the first time you play it. Now, usually, one person bears the cost of a game, but using the movie quotient tells us that the owner need only play a wargame twice before the game's value breaks even with seeing movies for him (and everyone else comes out way ahead!).Now, the movie quotient is somewhat arbitrary. For example, wargames would look bad if I used Bananagrams as a metric, or even most video games. But in reality, if a tabletop game is worth playing at all, it is almost always among the the greatest EV ways to spend your entertainment dollars, especially when you take the social aspect into account.
