My Top Ten Most Anticipated Video Games of 2011

Updated on February 24, 2011

10. L.A. Noire

This game is being developed by Rockstar Games and is currently set for a Q2 release. In L.A. Noire the player is a cop who is trying to solve a series of murders in and around the L.A. area. Set in the 1940's this game is sure to be filled with limitless of gangsters and even more Tommy Guns. I was a little disappointed in the gameplay of Rockstar's recent release, Red Dead Redemption. The world itself was beautiful and stunning, I truly enjoyed riding my horse from town to town. However eventually the riding from town to town began to take up hours instead of minutes. I am hoping with this next Rockstar epic will be overflowing with gun fights and undercover detective work. I look forward to the hours I will likely be driving around The City of Angels, just keep the commute reasonable.

9. Rage

Set to release September 13, 2011 this game is being developed by Id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. Rage will be using the new engine id tech 5, which has been only very recently developed and looks amazing! The game resembles a cross between Fallout 3 and Borderlands which makes me a very happy camper as those are two of my favorites. Perhaps Rage is Bethesda's throwback to Fallout 3. This title although not doing much originally in the terms of settings, as in a post apocalyptic wasteland teeming with raiders and mutant baddies, but the visuals are simply stunning. Knowing Bethesda and Id both, Rage is going to have one heck of a world and story to boot!

8. All of the N64 ports for the 3DS

Nintendo has created such a vibrant and loved set of core titles that nostalgia alone keeps bringing us back to the titles of yesteryear. The 3DS, Nintendo's newest handheld, will be no exception to this throwback love. The 3DS is confirmed so far to be bringing back the N64 classics The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64 and Pilotwings. I would bet my left thumb though that this will surely not be the end of the 64 ports. Other 64 titles I am hoping will make their handheld debut are Pokemon Snap, Super Smash Bros., and of course Super Mario 64. Nintendo knows what it's fans wants and we want to see Ganondorf with a blade in his gut, in 3D!

7. I Am Alive

Although this title doesn't have a specific release date as of yet it can be assumed it will be later in the year. I Am Alive is being co developed by Darkworks and Ubisoft Shanghai and published by Ubisoft. I Am Alive sounds like a very zealous game sporting many different survival essentials such as collecting resources and finding other survivors. Your character is tasked with creating a refugee camp and trying to get noticed by the outside world. Going across the newly destroyed Chicago landscape is sure to be very invigorating and surprising. I'm just hoping for a cannibalism option!

6. Star Wars: The Old Republic

I'm a sucker for anything Star Wars or Bioware so the entire Republic series has been keeping me satiated for years. I have never played an MMO before and I have decided this title will be my first. I have always been wary of the monthly dues required by legitimate MMOs, but I have every confidence in the abilities of Bioware. Bringing me such beauties as the Mass effect series and all of the previous Knights Old Republic games Bioware will likely create an incredible MMORPG experience. This game takes place 300 years after the events of The Knights of the Old Republic 2 and pits either players on either side of the great war between the Republic and the Empire. A story driven world filled with immense choices between the light and dark sides of the force will surely keep me sitting on my living room couch with my laptop burning a deep hole into my legs for hours upon countless hours to come.

5. Diablo 3

I can't even remember how many hours Diablo 1 and 2 sucked out of my adolescence but it is surely more time then I spent eating dinner with my family in our dinning room. Countless Baal runs in the hope of getting that specific set piece and I can't wait to do it again. Diablo 3 takes place twenty years after the latest installment and after the deaths of Diablo and Baal as well as the utter annihilation of the World Stone which kept the powers of Heaven and Hell at bay suggesting a battle between the two of gargantuan proportions, hopefully with a better story line than the last three seasons of Supernatural. The new classes in Diablo 3 are looking spectacular, the Demon Hunter is especially close to my heart. Although the necromancer will always be king I will surely spend the rest my young adulthood saving Tristram's butt again

4. Pokemon Black and White

5th generation already?! Although I am saddened to my my core over Black and White not being released for the 3DS it will still surely be incredible. Despite the lack of creativity in terms of new Pokemon in the last two generations the gameplay has advanced tenfold. The DS brought in a new wave of gameplay elements such as splitting attack types into three categories and having 5 different time periods a day instead of 3. Black and White extends these by adding a seasonal cycle as well changing every 4 months and there are now triple battle where each trainer sends out three pokemon. I am looking forward to at least two of the starter pokemon this time around, the pig kinda freaks me out. This generation is sure to bring in a plethora of new surprises and I can't wait to discover them.

3. Dead Space 2

The first Dead Space literally made me pee my pants it was so scary. Walking around the desolate halls of the Ishimura with only enough ammo to make it to the next area filled me with enough fear to never be frightened of clowns or the inevitable zombie apocalypse again. Isaac's new adventure on the city of Sprawl is sure to be crawling with new and debilitating necromorphs. This title is set to release on January 25, 2011 and is being developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The original had a few hiccups here and there, but surely the sequel will take some advice from its fans and this installment will kick it up a notch.

2. Mass Effect 3

Set to release during the 2011 holiday season this battle for Earth will truly be massive . Mass Effect 2 is hands down my favorite and the end of this magnificent trilogy is sure to close it out beautifully. The gameplay was really enhanced in the latest release and will surely be tweaked a bit but likely not to much. The only thing that could make 3 any better would be even deeper RPG elements, I miss my guns. The story arc is simply brilliant and needs no improvement as it is already perfect. I'll be keeping my trigger fingers crossed for this one.

1. Dragon Age II

Dragon Age was an interesting and intricate take on a fantasy world and DA 2 will surely bring us back all that we loved from the first one and more. DA 2 is sporting a new streamlined combat and moving farther away from a turn based feel and going for something a bit more Mass Effect-like. The conversations are also being fully voiced which will cut down the endless dialogue we experienced before. The world has also been expanded and the graphics are finally up to par with what the system is capable of. I spent many hours exploring the many corners of this game and really getting to know the ins and outs of all the interesting characters and I can't wait to do it again.
