Optimus Prime Voice Changer Review

Updated on August 5, 2011

Basic Overview

Lead your fellow robots in a battle to save the AllSpark from the cruel hands of mighty Megatron.

Allspark? Megatron? Whatever it means I know all the kids in the neighborhood know what the heck I am talking about.

This is the ultimate headgear for any Transformer and Optimus Prime fan. Strap on this awesome helmet and you will feel like you can rule the galaxy ....or more likely your living room.

Three different modes let you make your voice sound like a robot, hear the sounds of Optimus Prime changing from a truck to a robot and back again or hear Optimus Prime movie battle phrases like, "I am Optimus Prime" or "The Decepticons must be stopped".

Optimus Prime Voice Changer Review

I love this Optimus Prime Voice Changer helmet. And I'm in my 40's. I first saw it in a video on YouTube and was smitten. It actually fits the adult head, and is very adjustable with lots of straps inside the helmet. You have to get it positioned correctly, or the nose pad will sit very heavily on the bridge of your nose- which is not comfortable! But mess around with the straps, and it will fit anyone.

The Optimus Prime Voice Changer eye sockets are golden in hue, and while you can see fine to stalk around the house, I certainly wouldn't recommend riding or driving in it!

The supplied voices are very clear. The helmet comes with well known Transformers phrases- "I AM OPTIMUS PRIME!"- and the microphone is adjustable so you can speak in to it and have your own robot voice boom out nicely. If someone is standing next to you, they can hear your voice as well, but that's a minor point. The battery casing is on top of the head, and covered by a snap on plastic cover.

And if you don't have any makeup on and the postman or UPS guy comes to the door, you can always pop the helmet on and scare the heck out of him :) But make sure you are wearing underwear!

Optimus Prime Voice Changer- Who is Optimus?

Optimus Prime is a character in the Transformers universe.

He is the commander of the Autobots, a faction of heroic Transformers from the planet Cybertron who wage their battles against the evil forces of the Decepticons for control of their homeworld, and by extension, peace in the universe.

Optimus Prime is a heroic character who puts all his talent to use to improve the world around him. Optimus has a strong sense of justice and has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth; he will battle his foes with unyielding resolve to uphold this belief.

Optimus Prime transforms into a semi truck. The truck's cab transforms into Prime himself, with vast strength and armed with a laser rifle. Contained within his chest is the Autobot Matrix of Leadership (or Creation Matrix), carried by all Autobot leaders and passed down through the years.

The truck's trailer disconnects and transforms into the Combat Deck, a mobile battle-station/command headquarters with an "Auto-Launcher" robot armed with assorted artillery and beam weapons. It can also serve as a radio antenna for battlefield communications between the Autobots. The Combat Deck can launch Prime's third component, Roller, a mobile scout car that can go behind enemy lines. Optimus' senses are tied into Roller's, and can see, hear and feel what Roller does.

Injury to one component is felt by each of the others. Prime could survive the destruction of either Combat Deck or Roller however despite the autonomy, Combat Deck and Roller would not be able to survive without him.

Optimus Prime Voice Changer - How Does it Work?

Voice changers work because they shift the pitch-sensitive sound waves of the users voice through a microprocessor controller and offer various pitch shift adjustments. Low priced models offer fewer pitch options and use a less effective and lower cost microprocessor than higher end models.

Because the pitch is only one part of a human, you are limited as to how much you can change a voice without it sounding electronic or processed. With this toy your voice comes out a heck of a lot like Optimus Prime so they have done a great job. Higher end (higher cost) professional models use additional electronic circuits to change or buffer the unnatural sounds as well as contain better quality pitch shifting microprocessors.

Can I Really Change My Voice TO Optimus Prime?

Since everyone has a different voice, everyone will have a different result when using the voice changer. Normally, they can increase or decrease the pitch of your voice by one or two octaves while maintaining a realistic sounding result.

This voice changer produces very convincing results. It’s a good idea to lower your voice as far as you can to get closer and to make the electronics work less hard.
