When vending at a trade show, you'll find that it can be quite overwhelming, especially if you're not prepared.

So, once you've decided to vend at a show, you'll want to make sure that you have everything ready beforehand, so that the show is a breeze.

  • Have all products ready and marked with prices/notes.
  • Have business cards available.
  • Make sure to bring a table cloth or two to help professionalize your booth.
  • Consider bringing lights to add additional lighting to your table.

Depending on what type of show you are vending at, you'll find that the techniques and supplies needed will vary, but you'll always want to have everything ready beforehand. The last thing you want to do is to forget a vital part of your display.

  1. Make sure that you get to the event early. Even if you've visited the event many times before, you want to make sure that, as a vendor, you're early. You don't want to have to rush to get your table ready. You want to be able to pick the best table (if the tables aren't already pre-assigned).
  2. Have your products condensed. Sometimes, it can be a good idea to have just a handful of products, so that the choices are limited. Sometimes, if there are too many options, people won't buy anything, but if you have fewer options, people can immediately see what they like.
  3. Have examples of your products. If you think that you're product isn't clearly explained to its fullest extent, have products, pictures, even a visual display to showcase the item. You may consider having a short film featured on a laptop so that potential customers can see all possibilities with your main product.
  4. When the crowd slims, walk around and visit other vendors. This is ideal if you bring along a partner to help man the booth. You want to be able to make contacts, as well as sales and future long-term customers.
  5. Keep simple prices. You want to eliminate change, as most people just aren't going to have $0.05, if you price your products at $5.95. Keep easy, competitive prices.
  6. Stand up at your table. People are more apt to stopping at your booth if you're standing. A person who sits, is a person who appears bored and unsociable.
  7. Always keep a smile on your face!! You want to be approachable.
  8. Wear clean and appropriate attire. You don't necessarily want to wear your Sunday best, but you want to be presentable. Depending on what type of trade show you're attending, you'll find that the exact attire will vary. You just want to make sure that you don't look like a bum.

I thought about selling hammocks at a trade show. Then I figured out that sewing wasn't a great passion of mine and that I would hate to make 100's of hammocks per show! Haha! But let's say I did! Are there actually shows for pet's such as rats? And how do you find out about them?
