Reasons why you should Never Look at Tarot Cards

Tarot Cards

The idea of playing card games strikes an innocent mind as a harmless venture that is geared for fun and the entertainment derived from such an exercise. Tarot cards are a pack of playing cards used to play card games in Europe since the 15th century to date. The deck comes with various eye-catching illustrations that are potent with allures that many unwary users get attracted to. Are you attracted to tarot cards?

Purpose of Tarot cards

Unknown to many unsuspecting users, the origin of tarot cards leads the curious searcher to the mysterious world of divination. Note that divination is greatly condemned in many societies and religious authorities. It does not matter whether the user embraced these cards innocently, seriously or in jest. The eventual purpose and consequence must be experienced by all.

Tarot cards find their origin in ancient Egypt through the Book of Thoth under clearly documented literature that points at old cultic Egyptian principles of Kabbalah (Kabbalah refers to esoteric-"confined to and understandable by only an enlightened inner circle of individuals" theosophy of rabbinical origin based on the Hebrew scriptures developed between the 7th and the 18th century).

Types of tarot cards

There are many types of tarot cards whose use ranges from time travel, space travel, storm raising, matter creation, communication, fate proclamation and transcendental experiences. Believe me, when I say “You don’t want to go there”. There are claims of the presence of both occult and non-occult decks of tarot cards, Rider-Waite-Smith decks, Crowley-Harris Thoth deck, Mythic tarot deck, Hermetic deck and popular culture decks. There is a wide range of mind-boggling selections of tarot card decks enough to confuse the user. The more confused you are, the better for the master of trickery. His is the world full of confusion and falsehoods that trap the curious and uninformed.

Skeptics get their tarot cards read

Occult Tarot cards

Occult tarot cards exist in two distinct decks called Major and Minor Arcana respectively. These are illustrated with symbols that express one’s favorite attachments and desires such as witches, cats, tree of life or alchemist illustrations and even baseball. You recognize your attachment with symbol etched on cards in the deck.

Occult tarot cards are shrouded with mystical secrecy that is only revealed to those with a keen desire to discover their spiritual potency in the world of dark arts. Modern oracle decks are readily accepted as normal playing cards despite their spiritual orientation.

How to read tarot cards

Major and Minor Arcana decks:

The terms “Major Arcana” implies “Great secrets” The deck comprises 22 cards without suits and individually identified as Juggler, Priestess, Empress, Emperor, Hierophant, Lovers, Chariot, Strength, Hermit, Wheel of fortune, Justice, Hanged man, Death, Temperance, Devil, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, Judgment, World, and the Fool.

The other type of occult deck is called the Minor Arcana deck comprising 56 cards in four suits of fourteen cards. This deck translates “lesser secrets”

To the informed, tarot cards are more potent than players would like to admit. They have the capacity to enslave unsuspecting and unwary users with serious spiritual repercussions. Your life can be controlled via tarot cards especially when dealt with an experienced hand that wants to lure the player into the world of dark arts. These cards serve as a neat, innocent point of interaction or entry into the nether world. Remember, such contact is spiritually enslaving while offering no option to users willing to return back to the normal world.

You should only venture herein at your own risk. The world of mystery is full of surprises you are not ready for. You are seriously advised to tame your curiosity.

Nevertheless, man being who he tends to do or embrace what he has been denied. As the saying goes, "Curiosity killed the cat". I hear you deny being the cat in the statement above.

I am amused at your urge to explore the netherworld with its occultic attractions. No wonder, you have a strong desire to purchase these cards.

Wise are those who take heed before taking the leap.

The waters are deepest where they are darkest.

Beneath the dark depths lies secrets you don't want to find out.

People who find use for Tarot cards

Tarot cards are valuable to idlers, those who want to practice both white and dark arts on unsuspecting individuals, witches, wizards and those who want to try their hand in the occult.

The Book says that such people are not geared towards a good destiny. Witchcraft is deemed to be rebellion, stubbornness, iniquity, and idolatry. this is because it involves consultation with familiar spirits and hence a rejection of God and his Word.

Magic enables a person to walk through the fire. Star-gazing as you forge your future basing your plans on movements of heavenly bodies, coupled with the casting of spells by magical incantations, bewitchment, black magic, necromancy and sorcery usually trigger anger in God, drawing punishment from Him.

What God says about this

Those who insist on dabbling with the issue mention above should also read what is quoted in The Book below:

1Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. {witchcraft: Heb. divination}

2Chronicles 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like, of which I told you before, as I have also told you in the past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (KJV)

Targeting the real magic

Real magic lasts forever. It does not hurt anybody. It has no ill intentions. It is rewarding. Best of all, real magic leads you to the master. Rather than targeting errant magic, why not go to the real magician who actually turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, the magician who raised Lazarus from death after his body had decomposed, the one who paid his tax from a fish's mouth, the one who fed more than a thousand people using a little boy's lunch comprising a few pieces of bread and fish, the one who has a name like no other name through which men can be saved. The name of Jesus. Even the devil knows this name and trembles at the sound of it. It is better to trust that which is safe than one that risks your life with no chance of undoing the evil that comes with errant witchcraft.

I appreciate the information you have shared here, but I would also like to put up a few points which may differ from what is mentioned. I'm a spiritual person and have 100% faith in god. I believe that tarot gives us a different lookout of the present situation. I always ask God to bless me and my cards and provide a message.

Yes, people call upon spirits while reading; a practice which I personally oppose as it hampers your spiritual growth. Spirit work is proportional to dark magic and is should not be done at all.

I believe that we hold the power to shape our future and destiny. We can change it and mould it in the way we want. We have to depend 100% on God and he always bless us.

It is very sad to see, majority of Tarot Readers call upon spirits to help them in readings. Its only because people loose faith in god and hence such events occur.

Tarot Cards are not bad or evil. It is the method which the reader use give them a bad name.

Hi shofarcall,

Hi MaeMG,

I'm grateful to receive so much support from you. It is great to also hear testimonies from brethren on the same issue I wrote about. You greatly added to what I had to say. Indeed, many need to be warned of what to expect when they innocently meddle with familiar objects.

Thanks shofarcall. You are right. With the Holy Spirit to guide us, we don't need the Ouija board. This is where diviners miss the mark. Thanks again for the encouragement. You are most welcome.

I do agree that Tarot Cards are definitely not some toy to be meddled with. I also understand the history behind Tarot Cards as well. It's not a game either. I have my own set of Tarot Cards and different types of cards. Yes, I have dealt with other wordly contact as well not due to me using cards either. I've dealt with these types of situations since I was young (and I might like to mention, I was very much a church girl back then). You're right to warn others about the possibility of negative affects of using Tarot Cards. For the record before anyone asks: I do believe in God, I do believe in Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for us, and I do believe that there is good and evil out there. However, I do believe that there's way much more to God that what people believe and I accept that people won't always believe or understand my way of thinking or my faith.

You're right there have been so many incidences in where users becoming plagued by hauntings, by spirits, and by weird occurrences. However, I guarantee these users were using these cards for fun and not realizing what they were getting into in the first place. There are some things I won't touch -- like Ouiji boards or spirits boards. However, there are people that are skilled and gifted to make interpertations through different tools whether it be through Tarot Cards or Ouiji boards or whatever other controversial tool.

I actually liked your hub due to the definite need in warning people of the negatives of using Tarot Cards -- and that it's not some toy or game. However, not all Tarot Card readers are painted black in darkness. Just because someone who does use them doesn't make them a bad person or enslaved by Tarot Cards or whatever entity. There are many purposes and uses for Tarot Cards and they may not be understood by others, but they are certainly understood by the users.

Thank you Anjili for another informative and useful hub.

Before coming to Christ, I had a friend who was a tarot deck reader (interestingly, she is no longer a friend - she could not believe that I could get "sucked into" all that Christian stuff???) so I have experienced some of these tarot "readings".

With hindsight, I feel able to say to others, stay as far away from these divining tools as you possibly can. No good can ultimately come of it. As Christians we are called to take our burdens to Jesus and to confess i.e to talk to other brothers and sisters of what is burdening us and to pray together concerning whatever it is we are struggling with.

You are so right Anjili - it opens doors that should not be opened. I would far rather pray to the Father that He show me what I need to know about any given situation in order to heal.

And for the "reader", there can be much ego bound up in all this too. Being the one who can "interpret" being the one who is always in control, the helper?? the consoler? Holy Spirit is the Helper and the Consoler. It can also be addictive. Take a big step, and let it go justmesuzanne, and you may be mightily surprised how the Lord will grant you true gifts of the Holy Spirit. God Bless.

Hi justmesuzanne,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Was indisposed for a while. It seems like you are stuck with tarot cards having had a lengthy experience with them. I have looked at your articles on these cards and noted that you enjoy working with cards. There are however, a number of incidences where odd happenings have been reported by users of these cards that can not be disputed.

The cards of course have no innate power. It is the use to which we put the cards that exposes the human spirit to the nether realm, thereby opening a doorway.

Well, sorry but I have to disagree with this. Cards are pieces of cardboard with images printed on them. They don't have innate power. Any effect viewing, working with or playing with cards has on a person comes from within the person, not the cards. Imagery on the Rider-Waite deck is strongly Christian, and there are other tarot decks that go so far as to depict the life of Christ. I am a Christian and a fairly skilled tarot and playing card reader.

The 22 cards of the major arcana depict all the significant phases of a person's life from birth to death. Imagery, symbolism and numerology come into play when interpreting these cards. In a complete tarot deck, the minor arcana is often also illustrated (as with Rider Waite). Sometimes this is not the case. Sometimes the minor arcana cards are illustrated only with "pips" (hearts, diamonds, spades & clubs or cups, coins, swords & wands).

The symbolism on a well-designed deck depicts what is known as Jungian archetypes. These are time-honored symbols that connect with the human psyche at a deep level. A skilled interpreter of the cards consults with the seeker and helps the seeker see the answers being revealed from the seeker's subconscious mind. This is why the answers are so often uncanny and completely correct.

If you believe spooky things will happen to you if you use tarot cards, you are creating a self fulfilling prophecy. If you use tarot cards as a problem solving tool, you are making good use of a meditative device. I have an article about that and a couple more about interpreting playing cards.

Thanks Mhatter99 for the compliment. Odd things have been known to occur when we delve into doorways of the Occult. I'm glad it didn't happen to you. Thanks for visiting. Take care.

Thank you for this. I used to be pretty good. I gave it up after reading the collapse of a close friend's marriage.
