Scrabble Platinum Edition - Great for Game Night

Updated on November 25, 2012

Scrabble Platinum Edition is great for game night when you get together with another couple of friends (4 is ideal) and you can socialize around the scrabble board and play scrabble at the same time. It's great because the seating encourages eye contact and chatting which is more interactive and social than watching a movie together. Top reasons for buying this game:

1. Rotating Scrabble board - you don't have to move the board around clumsily anymore or try to read the board upside down. The rotating board allows the person whose turn it is to rotate and you always see it right side up.

2. Tile slots on board - The board has mini walls that hold the tiles in so when you rotate of if the board moves, you don't have to worry about the letters getting out of place. This is a HUGE benefit for moving it around in case you want to start the game while you have appetizers, put it aside for dinner, and then finish during dessert.

3. Platinum look - The board game, record keeping book, tiles holders and tiles look elite with a silver touch. It looks elegant but there have been some reviews where the quality has been mediocre.  One thing to keep in mind is to save this one for adult game nights for the sophisticated look and fee.  We've used ours several times and have kept it in mint condition.

(I prefer the wood tiles from the original Scrabble board game as this one has plastic but I can always get the wooden tiles from another game and use this board).

Speed Scrabble

Do not have time for a lengthy game - don't worry, you can still play speed scrabble. Everyone takes 9 tiles instead of 7.   There's always time for scrabble.

Speed Scrabble - No Board

Everyone takes 7 tiles and makes their own scrabble words without the board. The number of points do not count but instead it is about how many tiles you can use in your own scrabble in front of you. When you use a tile, you can pick up a new tile.

For those who get stuck, they can trade their tiles for new tiles. Regular scrabble rules apply.

I played this with a group of international students and the winner had 41 tiles and it took about 20-30 minutes. Great fast scrabble fun for groups and family game night!
