How to Use Karaoke for Party Fun With Friends

Singing Karaoke and recording everyone can be an enjoyable party experience. I'll explain what equipment you need and how to share these events with your friends. There is also a one-question poll at the end for you to compare your experience with other readers.

If you enjoy singing, Karaoke is the best way to do it with friends. Karaoke provides the lyrics on screen with the music and background singers. The lead singer on popular songs is removed on Karaoke music so that you can be the lead singer.

You can also save your experience by recording yourself singing. The background music provided with Karaoke can actually make you sound quite professional. It's almost as if you were singing in a band with the background accompaniment.

I have a group of friends who all enjoy singing. We sing at our own private house parties as well at karaoke bars.

Karaoke makes it easy even if you can't remember lyrics, because they appear on a screen in front of you. When I did this with friends, I found that the musical energy really made us feel good about ourselves.

It's fun to imitate the lead singer of professional bands. I found that there were certain singers I could imitate well, so I concentrate on those.

The reason why we can do better singing like one particular type of person and not another depends on our own type of voice. It may also have something to do with how our brain is wired, but that's not so important. Some people just make up their own way of singing popular songs, and that's okay too.

Do You Have Trouble Remembering the Lyrics?

I think that singing is important for us as human beings. It can boost our ego, help release stress, and make us feel better.

When you sing for your own satisfaction you don't need to be concerned about perfection. Professional singers know how to control their voice, have perfect pitch, harmonize, and stay on key. That's not important when you're doing it just for fun.

I seem to have no problem remembering the melody, but for some reason I don't always remember the lyrics that well. Having the words on the screen solves that problem for me.

No matter if you have trouble remembering lyrics, or the melody, the problem is solved since you have the advantage of both supporting you while you're singing. In addition, the background music soundtrack helps you stay on key.

What Karaoke Equipment Do I Need for Personal Use?

I was motivated to join some friends at singing gatherings because we all supported one another with the idea. Many of us felt more comfortable singing just among our own small group of friends, so we had private house parties too.

I eventually purchased a Karaoke Player and a bunch of Karaoke CD’s so that we can have our own singing parties at home. Players range in price from $29 to hundreds, depending on what quality and features you want. I wanted one that has professional features, so I bought the VocoPro DVX890K Karaoke Player.

The Karaoke CDs are known as CD+G, they include the lyrics for on-screen display in sync with the music. These special CDs only play on CD+G players, so you need a Karaoke machine to play them.

You can find many CD+G CDs of almost any song on Amazon. They usually contain the background music without the lead singer. Some CDs have the lead singer on one track and the music on the other. You can decide if you want to hear the lead singer or not by playing the appropriate track.

Beginners sometimes like to use the singer's voice as a guide, but I find it may make it more difficult. Singing your own way, without following the lead singer, is just as much fun.

How to Record Yourself Singing

I recorded myself singing throughout my life.
I recorded myself singing throughout my life.

Saving recordings of yourself singing that you can listen to later in life is a nice way to enjoy memories later on.

If singing is your hidden secret, that’s no problem. No one has to know. You can make recordings of this on your own, so you don’t need to worry what people think.

You can actually benefit by listening to your own recording and noticing where you need improvement. Some people are tone deaf. However, that is true only while singing. I think some tone-deaf people can actually notice the error when they listen to their own recording. You can tell if you are off key when you listen to it later.

If you want to have a good quality recording, go to a local electronics store and ask to see microphones that connect to your computer that give you a studio quality sound.

You might also want to consider using a stand-alone microphone that records directly into a flash memory card. I use the Zoom H2n. You can find it on Amazon. It has four built-in mics for stereo and 360° recording. It can be set to record WAV or MP3 files. The recordings can then be transferred to your computer via a USB port.

You Can Also Find Karaoke Software for Your Computer

Karaoke software is also available that you can install on your computer. Many are free. They are just like any Karaoke player. You can see the lyrics on the computer's screen as the music plays. Most of these programs play MIDI Karaoke files that can be purchased or downloaded free with a search as well.

While playing a karaoke song and watching the words on the screen, you can also run a recorder application to capture your signing into a WAV file. The background music will be included in the recording with your voice if you have the speakers positioned properly near your mic.

Below is a list of Karaoke software I found online. The two that I use are the VanBasco’s Karaoke Player and KaraFun, so I included them at the top of the list. You can find them with a Google search of the name.

Enjoy a Private Karaoke Party with Close Friends

If you would like to share your singing with friends, then just make a small private Karaoke party in your own home. It's a great way to have a social get-together.

All you need is a Karaoke player such as the one I use that I mentioned earlier. Hook it up to your TV. Get some CD+G Karaoke CDs. There are even super pack sets with hundreds of Karaoke songs in various categories. I've accumulated a library of songs by buying sets like that.

Get a few people together who share your desire to sing, and save the memories with recordings of yourself doing it.

Compare your experience with other readers. This poll was just added in November 2016, so give it time to build responses.
