Super Mario Galaxy 2 Walkthrough Part 29: The Grandmaster Galaxy
If you are reading this, then you have hopefully found 240 stars. This includes all of the 120 Gold Stars which include the Hidden Stars, Prankster Comet Stars, and the “Normal” ones as well as the 120 green stars.
After collecting all the Green Stars, you will see the Grandmaster Galaxy appear automatically in World S. You will then need to beat it, which is no easy task, of course.
The Ultimate Test
It is not called this for nothing. You begin with an area where a Yoshi Egg is readily available for you to use. Go on and use it, and you should then use the spindles along the way. Honestly, you can go through the whole thing without using the flutter or hover jumps, but honestly, I was able to just go through it in one long spree. Watch out for the bad guys along the way, as one hit will pretty much kill you, as does one missed spindle.
By the way, Bullet Bills will be launched after you, and they will hit you. You will eventually get to the pole with the Star Launcher on top. Now, there are two ways you can go through here. You could take the spindles and hover jump to the Star Launcher, which will allow you to take Yoshi to the next level. You can also let Yoshi land on the area, and hit Z and A, and get on the pole to climb to the Launch Star.
This next area is a lot like the Mario Squared Galaxy. There are a lot of ? tiles that have to be turned into ! tiles, and then they’ll become green tiles. What makes it hard is that there are robots in four places that will fire on you if you stay there for too long. I found that it was difficult to do this without doubling back, which you don’t want to do with these robots firing at you at every whim. I found it was easier to go around and do one side like a figure eight, and do a diagonal jump so you can do the other side. This will open up a Star Launcher.
Assuming you still have Yoshi, you’ll have to get rid of him to get a cloud mushroom. From here, it is about using clouds on the winds to travel forward, and then leaping up and forming cloud platforms so you can avoid the electricity fences upward. I found that backwards somersaults were very helpful in this particular area. By the way, you might want to use your cloud mushroom clouds to the next area just before the Star Launcher.
All right, this next area is a darn hard one, to say the least. As you can see, it involves shrinking green tiles, plus flipping tiles, not to mention red shocking circles of electricity as well as those funny monsters in the barrels. That cloud mushroom that you picked up will probably help you get past the first one. After that, it is about doing jumps in between three pulse of electricity and jumping up to avoid the ones that do come.
You will notice the circles there that are essentially the limit of these “power circles”. I believe that the monsters in the barrels can be taken out by flipping the green things back at him. These can, for the most part, be ignored. You have to be pretty careful here, and I wish I could recommend a better strategy then just “survive”.
When you get to the end, there was an area with a lot of electric lines and blue pulling stars. It is time to get really good at using pull-stars. Long-jumps are also advantageous here. Eventually, you will get to the area with the Goombas, and it will be a matter of avoiding them and timing your pullstar jumps to get there. The hardest one to get to is the Launch Star.
You will soon get to an area where there is a lot of platforms, spinning platforms, and Hammer Brothers. I suppose that you could avoid the Hammer brothers if you want to, difficult as this may seem. The spinning ones are really difficult.
By the way, the Comet Medal is located to the right, near the edge of a certain platform. The only way to get it is to simply jump for it, and then quickly do a spin jump back to the platform. It is tricky.
The last thing that you have to deal with are the Boomerang brothers. They can be pretty tricky, but it’s nothing that you haven’t faced before.
Eventually, you will have the Star.
The Perfect Run
This is the Prankster Comet Star level for this. It can only be accessed by going to the Toad Bank, which is located on the “cockpit area” of starship Mario. You have to collect 9,999 star bits. This means that you might have to do some levels again, just to get some more Bits.
Once you have made the necessary deposit, you should go ahead and head back to World S, and you will see that the Prankster Comet is there.
This is one of those Daredevil Runs, where you have to do the entire level without getting hit, not even once. Yes, it is hard, and you can read this above.
However, you will have Star number 242. Congrads.
