World of Warcraft Core Hound Pup Pet Guide
Core Hound Pup Pet
The Core Hound Pup non-combat pet can only be obtained by adding a Blizzard Authenticator to your Battle.net account. That's it. There's no other way to get this pet, so for those of you who do not enjoy account security and hate having to enter a few extra numbers when you log in, this pet may not be for you. Once you add an authenticator to your account, you receive a letter in your in-game mail that contains your new Core Hound Pup pet. If you remove your authenticator from your account, you can kiss your viscous little Core Hound Pup goodbye, as he will be removed from your inventory. He will return when you either re-attach your authenticator or if you add a new authenticator to your account.
Adding an Authenticator to your Battle.net Account
The first step to adding a Blizzard Authenticator to your account so that you can obtain the Core Hound Pup pet (and also prevent your account from being hacked) is to download the Authenticator application on your mobile phone or purchase an Authenticator from Blizzard. Personally, I chose to go with the free application for my iPhone, but the Authenticators from Blizzard are pretty cool.
Next, just log in to your Battle.net account and click on "Add Security" and follow the instructions based on which Authenticator that you are using. It's a very simple process and once you are synced up, you will receive your Core Hound Pup pet in your in-game mail!
Core Hound Pup as a Battle Pet
The Core Hound Pup is a great starter battle pet for any pet collector to learn the mechanics of the pet battle system in WoW. He's got some solid stats and can dominate any critter that you start off collecting with his abilities. When the Core Hound Pup hits level 2, he has a shout ability that increases the damage that your opponent takes for two rounds, which is extremely helpful. At level 4, his fire ability is weak against "critters" which makes the Core Hound Pup a great pet to work on collecting those critter pets to add to your collection.
Once I learned my pet battle skill, I used my Core Hound Pup to capture several critters around Stormwind and got a few achievements, such as winning 10 pet battles in a row. I highly suggest using the Core Hound Pup as one of your starter pets to learn the mechanics of the pet battle system.
