Girl Gamers - What's your Opinion?

Hey, i was just wondering what people think of girl gamers because i am a gamer and have been for a few years and i get some insults from guys who think girls shouldn't be allowed to play video games. So tell me your opinion! smile

A lot of people don't like it when you announce that you're a 'girl gamer' because they think that you're just using it as a way to get attention. Don't be surprised if you get some flak for that. It's generally recommended that you just not bring it up; though, of course, some one else might. If guys are giving you flak for it, they're probably just doing it to get attention themselves, to show other people how much of a 'man' they are.

Personally, I don't think it means anything either way. I know plenty of girls that play games and a lot of the people who read and comment on my hubs and on my web site are girls/women. Being a 'girl gamer' is like being a 'girl movie-goer' or 'girl music listener'. It's irrelevant, though the media likes to make a big deal out of it. I like to imagine the 'good old days' when 'girl readers' were similarly scandalous and cool. Now they're just people. In a few years, girl gamers will meet the same, shocking fate.

Girl gamers are just gamers to me. Gender doesn't come into play; any girl can be as good as any guy and vice versa.  Unfortunately, that isn't the case with most people. Any guy gamer that thinks girls can't play video games is a moron, plain and simple.

If you love gaming, don't let a few idiots try to tell you otherwise. Game on!

Yes, i totally agree and some folk take it too far by bring race and religion into it. Honestly, it's a game!

I have to agree with Sean. Isn't a gamer a gamer no matter if they are a guy or a girl. I think its just annoying how some guys think girls can't be gamers.

Hmmmmm. I know a lot of females that are gamers, and they are just as skilled as the guys. It seems that the comments you received got under your skin. I wouldn't worry about it, it's not a huge deal.

Well, I'm female and I'm also 58 years old, so my age is a second point against me according to some.

I play WoW most days as a break from work.

I don't care what anyone thinks.

I have given the names of the two WoW servers on which I play as requested by Mynameisnotpaul.

"Altitis" is the term used for people who like to create lots of different characters rather than sticking to one or two. Since I am not interested in dungeons, raiding or PvP, I create lots of characters and let them take their time exploring the world rather than rush to level up as fast as possible.

Oh okay sorry.. I don't play WoW but i've heard it's a great game. So you use your imagination to create charactars and take your time. Same for me on COD as i play all the missions first then i go onto Online gaming. smile Thank you for explaining.

Don't mind any guys who make remarks about your gaming. They probably just don't want to end up in a multi-player game with a girl in case you kick their you-know-what! LOL!

I love playing on the Playstation 3 and play many excellent games. Bioshock i magical and World of Warcraft, and just about any Star Wars games with Jedis in them. Wish I had more time to play games! LOL!

Video games should never be gender discriminating, though developers have the right to appeal to a certain audience. I might my lover on World of Warcraft when she told me she was a female. Back then, I was a slackjawed dirty-talking moron who was desperate. Now? We're in a working relationship and I'm glad to be with such a girl who shares the same interests as I.

A few months back I may have said, "girl, guy? What does it matter, you're both as worthless as each other". But after seeing that not all female gamers state their gender to get attention, I'm fine with it. Though just because my guild master or clan leader is female, doesn't mean she has more qualities than a male.

I'm a total game-aholic and there have been many lost weekends where my daughters and I have done nothing but intense marathon game playing. I seriously mean absolutely nothing, not showered, not dressed, not watched TV, not ventured out of the family room into the daylight, resenting even the need for snack and bathroom breaks. I've been gaming ever since Atari frist released Pong back in the 70s and long before the internet. I've never had a problem with being female. I just don't flirt and I don't let other players, male or female, push my buttons.
