There is no previous bias on my part. I own a PS3, a Xbox 360, and a Wii. I have used all three machines and like them all, just for different reasons. I may end up doing the same thing with this generation of consoles. I did not buy them all at the same time. So the decision for me is which one am I going to buy right away and which will I wait to see if they can make it worth it to buy that one as well.

Have A PS4 or Xbox One Delivered to Your Door
The PS4 were released November 15, 2013 in most major markets. The Xbox One was released everywhere on November 22, 2013.
If you are thinking about waiting until release day to get one of the consoles, you may want to reconsider. In article in the Wall Street Journal a Sony executive said with the PS4 "demand may well outstrip supply". They got a phenomenal response after their successful showing at E3 2013.
UPDATE
The PS4 is currently available again on Amazon, but I don't know for how long. They sold out quickly of the last batch that they had, so I recommend that if you want one you should order it now. Since it seems they were right about demand being higher then their supply.
My PS4
I got my PS4 and a few games first thing Friday morning. Upon start up there is an update file that you need to download. I was able to connect and download the file quickly. I was concerned as some people who had bought it at midnight openings were having trouble connecting for the download. In case you run into this issue, you can go to the Sony website where you can download it onto a USB stick and then put it directly onto your PS4.

If you go to a website that is focused more on one brand, then that one will win the poll. Amazon recently had a poll on its Facebook page asking which was your console of choice. Now it sells both products amongst many other things so I don't see there being a previous bias on the visitors to that site. Therefore it is probably one of the best results to go by. The PS4 (38,994) absolutely demolished the Xbox One (2,162) in votes.
Now what we have to keep in mind is that this is just people talking. The real results are shown when people are putting their money where there mouth is. The reports are that the PS4 is outselling Xbox by 2 to1 at both Gamestop and on Amazon. While not quite as overwhelming as the voting, Sony still has a huge lead.

DRM Latest News
At E3 we got the definitive answers about DRM (digital rights management) from both Sony and Microsoft.
Sony announced at E3 that they will support used games. They will not have any limitations on who you can trade it too or how many times. If Microsoft does not change their stance before the release date, they may lose the console war just on this issue alone.
UPDATE
Microsoft has officially reversed its stand on DRM (used games) and its always on (must log in every 24 hours) policy. If you go to their website http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update. It now has all the new details. They needed to do this or this console war would have been over before it began. With this news The fight is officially back on!

The Price
Sony PlayStation 4 will cost $399 in the USA and Canada
Microsoft Xbox One will cost $499 in the USA and Canada
However the Kinect is included in the bundle, the Eye/Move is not (you would have to buy it separately if you want one).
Connectivity Requirements
Originally Microsoft wanted your machine to be connected at all times. If you did not connect at least once every 24 hours you would not be able to play your games. Even the discs that you bought that don't require online play. They have now changed their mind about wanting your machine to be connected at all times. As of June 19th they now say it will work the same as their current system.
Sony does not have any requirements on connectivity for you to be able to play any game from a disc. So you can take it where you want to go and as long as you have electricity you can play.
This is now a moot point. However the 2 weeks before they changed their minds gave the Playstation 4 a huge lead in preorder sales.

Kinect VS Eye
The Kinect has gotten a serious upgrade to 1080p, along with better perception technology. You can see the amazing advances with this Kinect: exclusive Wired video.
We are still waiting for more information about the Eye, so far it doesn't sound like big improvements.
Therefore so far this is a point in Microsoft's favor.
RAM
The PS4 will use 8GB DDR5 RAM
The Xbox One will use 8GB GDDR3 RAM
The faster RAM is a point in Sony's favor.

Exclusive Game Titles
The vast majority of titles released are available on each platform. However each console maker has titles that exclusive to them. If that game is really good or extremely popular sometimes that will be enough to influence someone to buy the console.
Microsoft has promised to have 15 exclusives, with 8 of them being new titles within the first year of its launch.
Sony said they will have 40 exclusive titles available.
Both makers are likely to announce more about the games (including exclusives) at Gamescom. Gamescom is being held August 21-25 2013. This could make the fight extremely close if Xbox One can present some phenomenal games that uses all of the Kinects capabilities. This could then provide less resistance for the price difference. Since it is the main cause of the price difference.
Privacy Issues
A concern about privacy has been talked about. The concern is with the advances of the capability of the Kinect 2, the always on connectivity that is recording video and audio. Some people feel that Microsoft might have a little too much access into your home.
They have responded by saying you can pause or shut off the Kinect. You can set it to work how you want it too.
However some games require it to be on. It will also be up to the consumers to get the settings right.

Recommended Choice
As of right now, I would recommend buying the Playstation 4. Since it does not require you to buy the video camera, it has a lower price. It is selling more units so there will be more people to play online against,
I got the chance to try out both consoles on my recent trip to Fan Expo. After having that experience I have made my choice, I am going to buy the PS4 first. While both machines were amazing, so you really can't go wrong buying either one, I preferred the way the PS4 controller felt in my hands.
Will you run out and get one on the day it is released? Wait until closer to or after Christmas hoping for a better deal? Will you be buying it for yourself, some else, or both?
