Runescape Runecrafting Guide

Runecrafting: The Beginning

Now, you could go around and ask most noobies (level 50 and below, maybe), "What's your runecrafting (rc) level?", and the answer will most likely be, "1". And that was like for me, for a while. Maybe some of them haven't done the Rune Mysteries quest yet? Maybe they forgot where to mine rune essence?  Well, I have to admit, this skill will help you out most if you are a mage, so you don't have to buy runes. But that mostly only stands for a bit unless your a member, because only members can make runes like chaos runes, death runes, and blood runes, which you need for higher level higher hitting spells. But even if you're not a member OR mage, runecrafting can still make you money.

Runecrafting tables

Here are two tables from the Runescape website of the runes.

Mining Rune Essence

When you do the rune mysteries quest, then you should already know where to get rune essence, but just in case you forgot, here's a map of how to get there.

Wizard Tower:

When you get to the wizards tower and get inside, take the ladder down, then talk to the wizard guy down there and he can teleport you to the rune essence mine.

Crafting!

Okay, so now that you've had a refresher course on where to mine rune/pure essence, you need to change those essences into a rune. How do you do that? With magical rocks and talismans!

The Talismans

There are many ways to obtain talismans. The first and probably easiest way is, of course, the Grand Exchange. If you are not aware of the Grand Exchange, just look at the Varrock screen shot to the right. You should be able to locate the Grand Exchange on that picture in Varrock. There you can buy all the talismans you need, members and non-members.

The second way is a bit more difficult. Lots of random monsters around Runescape drop talismans when kill them. This way can be a little bit more difficult, as the better the talisman, the tougher monster you will need to kill to get it. But if you want combat exp as well, this is the way to go.

Obviously, the air talisman will create air runes, the mind talisman will make mind runes, and so on. But you don't just get a talisman and use that on the rune essence to make runes, that would be too easy. You need to use special rocks that are spread throughout Runescape.

'Special Rocks' And Getting There

These 'special rocks' I talked about are spread all throughout Runescape. But don't worry, there is an easy way to find them. Once you've acquired the talisman of the rune you want to craft (and have the sufficient runecrafting level), get the talisman in your inventory as well as all the rune essence you can hold. If you're a member, you can use pouches to hold extra essence. Right click on the essence and click on "Locate". In the chat bar in the bottom-left corner, words will come up telling you where to go, like, "The talisman pulls towards the south-west." Just go in the direction it specifies until you reach a strange rock. Right click on the talisman and click "Use" then click on the mysterious rock. You'll be teleported to the altar for the specific kind of rune you're creating. Right click on on of the essences and click "Use" then select the big rock in the middle of the altar. Your character will automatically make all the rune essence in your inventory into the rune.

Finishing Up

Now just return to the nearest bank and deposit your runes for later use. If you're planning to make lots of runes, mine all the essence you need at once then go to the altar to the nearest bank until all of your rune essence is the kind of rune you need/want.

This is just the basics, so you can go to http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/runecrafting to learn more.
