Skyrim Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends Quest

Updated on April 2, 2012

Skyrim Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends Quest

In Skyrim, the Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends side quest is one of the countless side quests in Skyrim. The Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends quest allows the hero to piece together the Gauldur Forbidden Legends Amulet (+30 Magicka, +30 Stamina, +30 Health). This will guide the hero in devising ways and tactics to solve the Folgunthur puzzles and then descending into Folgunthur crypt to defeat Mikrul Gauldurson.

Skyrim Gathering the Gauldur Amulet Fragments

In Skyrim, the Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends quest is triggered by picking up a book by the door of Esben's quarters. This quest can actually be started by venturing into any of the three caves or dungeons that each contain the gauldur amulet fragment. The Saarthal excavation site contains one such Gauldur amulet fragment - that which belongs to the mage Jyrik Gauldurson. The other two Gauldur amulet fragments are in Folgunthur and Geirmund's Hall. In the last part of the Skyrim Gauldur Amulet Forbidden Legends quest, the three Gauldur amulet fragments have to be pieced together to form the Gauldur Amulet.

Skyrim Folgunthur Puzzles

In Skyrim, the hero must enter Folgunthur and descend into Folgunthur crypt to face Mikrul Gauldurson and retrieve one of the Gauldur Amulet fragments. The other monsters here include draugrs and restless draugrs, which should be quite easy to take care of at the intermediate to advanced levels. The puzzles in the Folgunthur Forbidden Legends Quest are harder.

In Skyrim Folgunthur, the hero must pull the right combinations of levers (see picture) to advnace further into Folgunthur. After the Folgunthur levers puzzle, the hero will reach the a room with two thrones that will lead into two rooms. Activating one lever will cause the other lever to be inactivated. When facing the two thrones, activate the right lever, and go into the room to memorize the stone pillars symbols. When facing the stone pillars from left to right, the symbols are snake, fish and eagle. Now activate the other lever and go to the other room, and rotate the pillars until each pillar corresponds to the symbol in the other room. Be careful of the draugr scourge in the left throne room. Now go back to the original room with the two thrones, and pull the chain on the wall; the trapdoor leading down to the Folgunthur crypt entrance will open.

The final Folgunthur puzzle is solved by putting together what the hero observes on the ivory dragon claw into the wall - from top to bottom - eagle, eagle and dragon.

After entering the Folgunthur crypt, the hero will see a chest in front of him. Loot the chest, and then turn right and behind him will be the Frost Breath Dragon Shout Word of Power wall. Learn the Frost Breath Dragon Shout Word of Power and then proceed deeper into Folgunthur crypt.

Skyrim Defeating Mikrul Gauldurson in Folgunthur Crypt

In Skyrim Folgunthur Crypt, the boss of the Folgunthur dungeon is the warrior draugr boss Mikrul Gauldurson. To defeat Mikrul Gauldurson, the key here is to focus on Mikrul Gauldurson and try to ignore the draugr thralls hassling the hero. With the defeat of Mikrul Gauldurson, the draugr thralls should be destroyed as well. Use the follower if any to tank the hero or distract the other draugrs. Now use destruction magic spells of chain lightning and fireball to finish off Mikrul Gauldurson from a distance. Of course, if the hero is a warrior, then he may want to take on Mikrul Gauldurson in pure warrior to warrior fight to determine who is the best warrior of this current generation in Skyrim. If Mikrul Gauldurson is proving too hard, it may be worthwhile to only take on him after obtaining the Call of Valor Shout. This will enable the hero to call one of the three heroes to help him defeat Mikrul Gauldurson. Whatever method the hero uses, with perseverance, Mikrul Gauldurson will be defeated, and the hero will be able to collect one of the three Gauldur Amulet Fragments.
