Managing Affiliate Settings
One of the main reasons so many authors decide to write on HubPages is that we maintain a very simple and transparent system when it comes helping you make some money. But, before you can start realizing any money-making opportunities you first need to set up all of your affiliate settings. These affiliate settings are what plug you into the various networks and allow them to keep track of the activity on your Hubs so that they can send you the checks. Getting them set up is a piece of cake and in this section we'll walk you through how to setup each of them step-by-step.
Your Affiliate Settings Screen
If you're looking to make some money on HubPages, your Affiliate Settings Screen is one of the most important pages for you to pay attention to. Each of these affiliates are managed by the various companies that offer them, but by registering for them here, it will automatically make them available to you when creating your Hubs. To better understand what each of the affiliates are and whether or not you should register for them check out the descriptions under Figure 2.3 below.
Figure 2.3 - Your Affiliate Settings Screen
- Affiliate Settings: This section is where you can sign up for the various affiliates that are available on HubPages. These affiliates include:
- Google AdSense: A type of text-based, pay-per-click advertising that is used by publishers all across the web as a way to earn revenue. It was developed by Google and uses contextual technology to place the right ads within your published Hubs. This is the highest earner for the majority of writers on HubPages and is super easy to get up and running. The earnings from AdSense are split by giving the author the earnings generated from 60% of the impressions that their Hubs receive, with the rest going to HubPages. To sign up for AdSense now, follow these step-by-step directions.
- Amazon: There are two different types of Revenue Capsules (Capsules that can make you some money) available once you start creating your Hubs. One of these is the Amazon Capsule, which lets you insert various products from Amazon.com directly into your Hub before you publish it. This works great for Hubs that are written about specific products such as electronics, movies or small appliances. For instance, if you wrote a Hub about your favorite music from the 80's, you could insert in an Amazon Capsule that included the music that you mention. This would allow anyone who visits your Hub to buy the music from Amazon directly from HubPages, which would result in you getting paid royalties from the sale. To sign up for an Amazon Associates account now, follow these step-by-step directions.
- eBay: The second Revenue Capsule that you can use when putting your Hubs together is the eBay Capsule. This Capsule is very similar to the Amazon Capsule, but instead of adding products from Amazon.com you are able to add various products from eBay.com. The products that you can include from eBay are sometimes a little cheaper than that of Amazon and since eBay is the world's largest auction site, there is a very big selection of about anything you would ever want to find. As with the Amazon Capsule, if anyone buys something from eBay while visiting your particular Hub, you will earn royalties from the sale. To sign up for the eBay Partner Network now, follow these step-by-step directions.
- Kontera: A type of advertising that when added to your Hubs creates hyperlinks within your content that directs readers to specific advertisements that are related to the linked hyperlinks. Kontera can be used on any or all of the Hubs that you publish and is best used when your Hubs see some above-average traffic. Kontera doesn't normally have the same earning potential as Google Adsense, but it's usually worth testing out once you start seeing some decent traffic to your Hubs. Just like Google Adsense, if you choose to add Kontera to your Hubs, the earnings generated are split with 60% of impressions to the author and 40% to HubPages. To sign up for Kontera now, follow these step-by-step directions.
- Analytics: Every author on HubPages is empowered with tools that allow them to view the statistics that are generated from their Hubs. Although these tools dig deep into the performance of your Hubs, some authors would like to dig even deeper into the world of their Hub statistics so that they can analyze everything single about them. This is why we allow you to create a Google Analytics account and attach it to your HubPages account with a simple copy and paste. Google Analytics is a free, world-class application that will leave no questions on the table regarding the traffic that you are generating on HubPages and can be a very powerful tool when it comes to figuring what types of content works for you and what doesn't. To sign up for Google Analytics now, head on over here and register your HubPages account.
- Kontera Specific Settings: If you have joined the Kontera affiliate network these settings allow you enable or disable Kontera on all of your Hubs quickly and easily. There is also an option to enable Kontera on all of your new Hubs by default, but if for some reason you would like to disable Kontera on one, specific Hub that you've published, all you have to do is edit that Hub and change the option.
- Check Your Earnings or Traffic: This section gives you direct links to each of the affiliates that you have joined so that you can stay on top of the earnings that each one is generating. Each affiliate has slightly different rules when it comes to how and when you get paid, so it's a good idea to check out each of these site to make sure that you're up to speed on everything.
