A legitimate way to make money writing

I'm sure that one of the things that you're wondering right now is "How exactly does HubPages help me make money?". This is a common question, and with all of the make-money-online-now schemes and scams out there, it's no surprise that many potential writers feel a little hesitant about the whole idea. With this in mind, the goal here is to not only clearly show you how HubPages can legitimately make you some money, but to do it in a way that is completely transparent so you can feel completely comfortable about the entire process.

A broad overview of what HubPages does

Here at HubPages we have developed a time-tested and proven way to help writers make money from the content that they create. Since our beginning in 2006, HubPages has quickly emerged as a world-class writing platform that brings together many different sophisticated technologies to create an amazingly simple way to generate earnings for anyone who loves to write. Simply put, we know how this whole 'Internet thing' works and we want to help you turn the thing that you love to do (writing) into something that can make you some money - all while having fun and meeting other writers along the way.

How HubPages actually works

So all of this sounds great, but you're probably ready to figure out a little more detail on how HubPages actually helps you make money, right? To help you better understand exactly how the entire process works first I'll point you to a blog post called HubPages Earning Methods And Revenue Splits, Explained and second I'll walk you through 10 simple steps and I'll also give you a real life example of a HubPages author, a Hub they have published and how they are now making money from it. Now pay attention, this stuff is important.

A 10-Step HubPages Overview

  1. A person who loves to write joins HubPages.
  2. The new Hubber joins the affiliate programs of his choice, such as Google AdSense, Kontera, EBay, and/or Amazon. Joining these affiliate programs is what allows the Hubber to generate royalties from the transactions that occur on his Hub (clicking on ads, buying a product from Amazon, etc).
  3. Now it's time for the Hubber to think of a topic to write about. There are no limitations to what he can write about on HubPages as long as it's written in English and isn't considered adult content. If the Hubber knows a lot about surfing, then he can write about that. If he knows about raising children, then he can write about that as well. Of course, a little bit of research never hurts either.
  4. Once the Hubber decides on a topic and researches it, he then writes the Hub and fills it with informative, interesting and topical content including text, links, images, video and other media that he feels is relevant to the topic. It's easy to add this content with the HubPages Capsules.
  5. When the Hubber is finished writing the Hub, he then publishes it. This makes the Hub publicly available to anyone surfing the web and it also lets the search engines, such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN Search know that it is available for indexing so that it can be searchable as well. At this point the Hubber can also share his newly published Hub with his friends via email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and any other social networking websites that he spends time on.
  6. Once the Hub is indexed, someone searches on a search engine (Google, Yahoo!, etc.) for a topic similar to the one that the Hubber published his Hub about. When the topic is searched, the Hub shows up in the search results and the person searching clicks on it.
  7. The Hub is then viewed by the person who was searching and at this point the Hub is filled with content that the Hubber has written as well as Google Adsense ads(and potentially Amazon products or other ads that the Hubber signed up for) that are related to the topic covered in the Hub.
  8. While reading through the Hub, the person also sees the Google AdSense ads that are automatically placed on published Hubs (and potentially Amazon/EBay products and Kontera contextual ads, at the Hubber's option), and clicks on one of them that seems interesting. At this point the Hubber is paid for that click and depending on the type of ad and the share with HubPages, he would make anywhere from $0.10-$0.50 cents to $10-$50 bucks.
  9. As time goes on and depending on the topic of the Hub, how well it's written and how it ranks on the search engines, these ad clicks could potentially happen over and over again, resulting in the Hubber making some serious money.
  10. The Hubber then publishes other Hubs on other topics and he continues to make money as they are viewed and the ads are clicked.

These 10 steps are a very basic and fundamental example of how HubPages can help you make money. To make the process even easier to understand, check out this real-world example of how a Hubber made some money from an Amazon sale on one of his Hubs.

A Real Life Example Of How HubPages Works

  1. One of our super awesome Hubbers, jimmythejock, decides to write a Hub on everything you would ever need to know about Rolex watches.
  2. Jimmy then researches the subject and finds information, links, images, and other media that he can add to his soon-to-be-amazing Hub. He even decides to add a few Amazon and Ebay Capsules in case anyone reading his Hub is ready to buy. He knows that they are a great way to make some additional money from his Hubs, especially when he's writing about products such as a Rolex watches.
  3. After Jimmy is done researching he writes his Rolex-filled Hub and publishes it with the title Rolex Watches A Definitive Guide. Within a couple hours it's indexed by all of the search engines and Jimmy even posts it on the social news site Digg.com as a way to get it even more exposure. Not a bad idea, Jimmy.
  4. Within hours people who are searching for Rolex watches are already finding his freshly published Hub and the traffic begins to build. As time goes on and more people read the Hub (and maybe even link to it from their own blog or site), it will begin to get even more traffic and exposure.
  5. Not even 36 hours after Jimmy publishes the Hub he gets a notice from Ebay saying that someone had purchased a new Rolex and that the sale originated from the Ebay Capsule that he decided to add to his Hub. Obviously a great decision by Jimmy, and a great way for him to earn a quick $126.00 from his writing, don't you think?

Of course, not everyone is going to cash in on a $126 sale just 36 hours after joining HubPages, but the point is that everyone has the potential to. Also, one thing to remember is that Jimmy loves to write and likes publishing Hubs and being a member of the community just as much as he likes making money (although I'm sure it doesn't hurt).
