A Lesson for Today ~~ What are YOU Waiting For??

Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.

— Henri Nouwen

Each day is too short...

Very often I have heard it said that if someone can say it better for you, if someone has already said it for you, borrow their words and give credit.

Mr. Burroughs, kudos to you....you said it for me so well.

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

— John Burroughs

Hug 'em & kiss 'em every day

What is that old saying…the road to hell is paved with good intentions…

I will call my Momma, my son, my niece, my friend, whomever, tomorrow.

How many times have you had those very words in your mind only to dismiss them?

Even if you are fighting your own battle, Take a moment to phone or reach out to someone today to let them know you care.

— unknown

Besties who keep in touch every day...miles apart but as close as the phone...

Source

Our job on earth isn't to criticize, reject, or judge. Our purpose is to offer a helping hand, compassion, and mercy. We are to do unto others as we hope they would do unto us.

— Dana Arcuri

Time slips away too quickly...

And the next day comes and life takes hold and that call does not get made.

A few days turns into a week, a week into weeks, and months into a year. And then one day you run into that person and hear about all of the joys and sorrows that you may have missed out on because you all did not reach out to each other.

Or sometimes you find out that person has died which of course is part of the cycle---- but you had so much to share…

It is a beautiful life we live...

I can and will improve the world.

I will smile, show kindness, and be grateful.

I refuse to be unhappy.

— Richelle E. Goodrich

Today is the day...

So often I hear people chatting and they say, “Well, the phone works both ways. They can call me. I shouldn’t have to call every time”

And as true as that is, what difference does it make if YOU are the one to call? The bottom line is you are in contact. You have not missed an opportunity to reconnect with someone that you care about.

They will not need you when they are gone. They need you now.

Today is our reality. It is the moment in time that we have to live and love and laugh and fulfill our dreams. If you are waiting for tomorrow to happen to your life, you are missing out on what could possibly be the best day you will ever live.

Rekindle a relationship...

Think about all of the friends and family you have not spoken to on the phone, texted, messaged on facebook, Skyped, or wonder of wonder, written a letter to and sent via snail mail.

Been too busy? Too caught up in your own world,

your own stuff to take a second to make that contact??

Do it today.

Call someone.

Stop by and visit someone.

It is amazing how energizing it is to rekindle relationships. You already know that though.

My sister and her son in March

Source

Gone from the planet too soon.

Back in March my sister moved to Florida to live with her son. It meant that she got to enjoy so much time with him one on one that she had missed over the years. He had lived on the West coast for a number of years and during that time face time was not so much.

The good news is they did speak on the phone often so were still very much in each other's lives. They had always been very close; he was my sister's only son.

My sister moving to Florida was a glorious thing for me too. I got to see her almost every weekend (she was only a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive away ) and I got to see my nephew. He was so special to me as I used to baby sit him and his siblings and his cousins in the summer when they were little kids. He was one of my favorite nephews.

His life came to an end suddenly in May, just three months after his Momma came to stay with him.

What a gift those three months were. She had the time, he had the time to visit ---those precious moments that we do not know will become like warm blankets we can wrap ourselves in to relish that time.

They had Done it Now and did not realize they were.

The long talks, the moments of sharing meals together, the time spent learning from each other, the time of sitting together in the same room lost in their own thoughts, the time sitting watching a video together, the time watching and playing with his puppy dogs...all of them hold special meaning now.

They did not miss one minute of any day.

You want to be able to say that.

Food for thought from Harriet Beecher Stowe

In the words of Harriet Beecher Stowe:

“The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and for deeds left undone.”

No missed opportunities

Maybe Aunt Ruthie or Uncle Roy drive you nuts sometimes because they ‘know E V E R Y T H I N G’ under the sun but they love you and care about you.

Whoever your Aunt Ruthie and Uncle Roy are in your life, you would make their day by reconnecting

Tomorrow does not always come. That missed opportunity to say “I love you” or “thank you” or both can be gone in an instant.

Sometimes even with those that we see on a daily basis, those live in our own homes, we do not say enough.

Saying the words “I love you” to your family every day causes hearts to sing and family relationships to grow stronger.

A precious grandson who knows how much he is loved.

Source

Now is the time...

This is very much on my mind because of personal reasons.

Trying every day to shower love and affection and the gift of time to my loved ones is my mission right now.

How do I give the gift of time, you may ask. And that is by doing chores, baby sitting, cooking, all of those things. And being there to listen…

Today, choose one Someone---the one you have intended to call, to stop by and visit and do it.

You will never be sorry that you did. You may live a life of regrets if you do not.

Good idea...to take stock at the end of the day...lets us see if we are reaching out to at least one other each day....

Today a family came to our church before services and wanted help. We are a tiny church and have little money but we fed them and welcomed them in to get warm and then showed them the way to the nearby agency who could be of more assistance. That is our job...to help make the way easier in some way for others. Angels are on the way ps

Hi PS... what an amazing piece of writing and such a good reminder of extending love and compassion. At the start of each day I ask myself who can I reach out to this day. Listen to your heart and you will be guided and directed. At the end of each day I like to take inventory of my actions and change that which needs to be changed... life is far to short to live in bitterness and anger...

Hugs from Alberta Canada

yes breathing...we need to seize the moments we have now...not waiting for some remote time in the future. Too many times things happen that make us wish we had taken the opportunity to reach out to a loved one or a friend.

Indeed each and every single day of our life is important. We can offer many things to the society if we want to. For that we will have to utilize every single day of our life. If we evaluate then we will see that we lose most of our valuable time in worthless activities.so if you want to start the change within yourself, today is he day when you need to start. If you pause for one day that day will be gone and you will be exactly in the same condition that you were yesterday. So do it today buddy!!!

What a wonderful hub. How generous of you to mention the obvious point that does it really matter who reaches out presuming a connection is made. Thank you for sharing about the time you were able to spend with your nephew before he died. Now I need to determine who might need to hear from me today. Voted up.

First thanks Paul for visiting There are just so many who love a visit or a call..and it is something we can do with so little trouble for us. And in the case where contacting can be tricky, snail mail at least gets a card there.

Thanks too for the votes.

Patricia, every word you said her is so true and if anyone has doubts, your sister and nephew are perfect examples. We never know what's in store for us so its best to do it today!

A beautiful hub from a beautiful lady! Bless you.

I love this beautiful hub, it describes a certain situation I just went through when I finally found an old childhood friend. We try to live life too fast sometimes, and in the rush we forget what's really important. Beautiful hub voted up, and more.

This is an awesome hub which I have voted up in all categories. After reading this, I will definitely write a letter to my youngest sister and get it in the mail as soon as it is written. I can't contact her by phone or email, so snail mail is the only recourse we have. We have never really been that close because she is 15 years younger than me and I think we have some misunderstandings to clear up. Sharing on Hubpages with followers and on Facebook.

Hi PStraubie How right you are about keeping up friendships and, especially, keeping in touch with families and friends. One phone call can make all the difference. So often, I wish I had phoned my mother more often when she was alive. We get so involved with our own lives, but there is no excuse. You are such a kind person and write these wonderful hubs that help us get back on the right track. I am sure God forgives us. I am glad I stopped back to read this lovely story. Blessings Audrey. One lesson I have had pounded into my head is to love and squeeze and hug your precious loved family and friends every day. Thank you for stopping by.

I agree, Patricia, the days are much too short to accomplish all that we wish to do. And as we grow older the days become shorter and shorter. Trust me. So I appreciate your reminder of the importance of telling those we love that we do love them - and telling them often.

Not only is each day too short to do all the things we want to do, Patricia, but as we grow older, those days grow even shorter. Trust me. So thank you for reminding me how important it is to tell the people we love that we love them. No one can hear that enough.

"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" the scriptures tell us. We only live once. Now is the time to act. I heard a story from a friend, that a woman she was sitting next to on an airplane had a heart attack and died, mid flight. We never know when it will be our turn! Make today count!

hi Kathryn

I am reminded of when my Momma died almost 25 years ago now. The weeping and wailing that went on ...o, my. Oceans could have been filled.

I shed some too but my heart was filled with joy. I had spent hour upon hour, day upon day at her side. So her passing was no surprise and I had the memory of those moments.

So I guess that is why I suggest what I do in this hub.

thank you for stopping by...I enjoy so much reading your hubs and will try to read more...the plate is a little full right now :D

What a wonderful message. My skin is full of goosebumps now! I'm so glad that the part of your story where your sister and his son and yourself got to spend time together, and not to have the regret of putting it off until it's too late. But I was shocked that it was your nephew that passed away. I'm so sorry for your family, but I am happy that you all had those precious memories in the end, even though you didn't know it would happen the way it did.

This is definitely the type of post that motivates us to stop putting off contacting someone. Thanks.

Have a great night, my friend, and it's nice to read your articles (as always).

Hi annart

Thank you for stopping by. As I said in another comment, I am dealing with some difficult issues and this hub was a result of that. Missing an opportunity to tell someone they are loved can lead to so much sadness later.

So we are embracing each day...

Wise words here. How true that it's so easy to miss the opportunities to tell people how you feel and how much they mean to you. I've missed out on a few, like all of us have; some I've made up for, some I can't, but I don't intend to miss out on any more. A good message, well written. Ann

A Lesson for Today Do It Now, a lesson learned indeed, do it now, not worth waiting.Encouraging and you said it the best. Never leave for the next time. A few years ago this happened when my aunt came to visit my mom, she stayed all day and when my mom and brother gave her a rid back home my aunt called them inside to have a chat my mother was in a hurry and told her ''I will see you next time.'' Sadly there was no next time instead it was my aunt's funeral that they attended and my mother now always tells me never leave it for the next time. It may never be
