A New Resolution

A New Resolution

Five years ago I never would have started a blog. I may have wanted to; heck I may have even looked into it, Toyed with the idea, batted around a couple topics, but I know I never would have. I can honestly say that I have lived most of my life consumed with the idea that I will be judged. Feared the idea of people finding out who I really am and hating me for it. I hid every thought every dream, ran with every current trend even if I hated it, hide every passion, only reaching for goals that I knew would be easily attainable. I held myself back, clipped my own wings, all in the name of becoming normal, but really I did it out of fear. It was only recently I came to the harsh realization of so what? I know that this may sound like nothing, but let me explain to you how these two words helped to free me. People will judge me for my eccentricities, my love for reading, and my hatred for organization, and the fact I never know where my cell phone is. So what. Most people may not agree with what I have to say, because I do think differently, I do rebel; I don’t take anyone’s words for anything because I feel most people are indoctrinated. So what.  I don’t wait around for people’s approval anymore, because in life if I have realized anything it’s that no one will believe in your crazy ideas, and whimsical dreams. Your neighbors will laugh behind your back, your mother will smile at your crazy antics, then wonder if it was the glass of wine she drank while pregnant that made you the way you are. Your friends will make fun of you. No one will believe in you except you. So what. Work hard doing whatever it is that makes you happy and a better person. Will you fail? Probably a couple times, but so what.  Will there be times you feel like you should give up, go back to pretending to be someone else, change back into the actress that everyone loves and live your life through other people’s dreams and aspirations. Become human clay molding and bending to the times and views of others, because you are too scared to stand up for what you believe in. But as the New Year rolls in I say it’s time for a change, maybe it’s something incredibly simple like starting a blog. Maybe it’s finally quitting that job that has had you walking a fine line between sanity and crazed. Maybe it’s cutting off your hair and dying it purple, why because you happen to like short purple hair, and if someone else hates it? So what. Now when I say to take up this new mentality I don’t at all mean become a self obsessed individual who is calloused to the feelings of others. I simply mean to stop letting other peoples pre conceived notions dictate your life. To stop feeling embarrassed or inadequate for being different, rather embrace it lay it on the table, wave the white flag and surrender to being diverse.  People will judge you; people won’t like you, people won’t believe in you, but so what? It’s up to you to prove them wrong.

Very inspiring hub. We have to make some change in this year. Never look back and we have to believe that there's a bright future. We need a resolution to make this better. I believe everything goes well. Thank you very much. Happy New Year!

wow, you hit the nail on the head. I am in my 40's and learned that I don't need to people please. But, I am in a struggle, to find my passion in life. It's like I lost it all. I will make 2011 the best ever and change for the better. Great hub.

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it! Also I definitely no life can be hard, and what it feels like to lose everything, but the great thing about life is almost everything is changeable; this year can be anything you make it. Keep your head up things will improve!

Absolutely Sarah and very well said. We must know ourselves, and be always true to ourselves. Society and our peers wish for us to step into line and conform like the rest. Once we know ourselves, we can create the life that we wish to live and not live the one that others think we should live.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful thoughts.

Happy New Year and peace to you.

Thanks for your feedback! And your absolutely right, society in general wants us all to conform to a certain cookie cutter mold of “perfection,” but when we do this we ultimately sell ourselves short of ever really getting to know what we want in life.
