Advantages and Health Benefits of Green Tea

Recently, the usage of green tea has increased tremendously. It has always been used in Asian countries for different purposes but as science has proved the numerous advantages and health benefits of green tea, it is soon becoming one of the most popular and commonly used drinks all around the world.

Made from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, green tea is believed to be originated in China. It is also estimated that Chinese people have been using green tea for at least 4,000 years – more specifically, for numerous health benefits of green tea. As an old Chinese saying goes:

“Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one.”

A research in 1994 by the Journal of the National Cancer, for example, shows results that by drinking green tea, the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese people is reduced by approximately 60%. Similarly, there are many other scientific researches, too, that connects green tea with various benefits, including, lower cholesterol levels, infections and other heart-related diseases.

Following are some of the most notable advantages and health benefits of green tea:

1. Weight Loss:

Unreasonably more weight is a cause of several human diseases. One of the best health benefits of green tea is that it helps in the weight loss process. Studies show that drinking green tea increases the calorie-burning to a notable extent. Along with many other useful substances, green tea also contains polyphenol, which is believed to intensify the oxidation levels in the human body. One of the studies suggests that participants, who drank four cups of green tea daily, had an increased oxidation rate by 12%, and in turn, burned an additional 67 calories per day.

2. Cancer:

There are many scientific studies and researches now that suggest that green tea helps in the prevention of cancer. Green tea has antioxidants that fight against the possible risk of cancers. It is believed that the antioxidants that are found in green tea are approximately 24 times more effective than Vitamin E and almost 100 times better than Vitamin C.

These antioxidants fight against the various types of possible cancer, which include: breast cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer. Moreover, the catechins that are found in green tea are believed to reduce both the formation and possible growth of different types of tumors in a human body.

3. Lower Cholesterol Levels and Heart Attacks:

Green tea is often associated with lower cholesterol levels and heart attacks. It is believed – and often suggested by various scientific researches as well – that green tea basically functions directly on the lining of blood vessels. This functionality helps the blood vessels to be more effective in handling different levels of blood pressure. Ultimately, the blood vessels become better equipped against the formation of any possible clots that eventually lead to strokes and heart attacks.

There was once a research published by the Harvard University. It demonstrated that people, who drank at least one cup of green tea daily, had an approximately 44% reduced chance of heart attacks. Moreover, it is also believed that if a person regularly drinks green tea, he is usually in a better position to recover from a heart attack.

Another health benefit of green tea is that it helps you fight against depression and anxiety. Green tea has a substance named, theanine. Theanine is an amino acid which is usually found in tea leaves. More specifically, it is found abundantly in the green tea leaves. It produces a tranquilizing effect which helps you in getting relaxed and fighting against depression and anxiety.
