I think we all know about this fruit. Juicy and fresh, it’s good in a hot day. Nothing beats a slice of icy cold melon in a hot day. Their juicy sweetness leaves you ready for more. A melon’s flesh is just about 95 percent water, so is it any wonder that they are just a refreshing as a cool drink?

Melons come in lots of shapes and sizes, but the most popular ones here are watermelons, cantaloupes and honeydew melons (although others are available). Eat melons when they are perfectly ripe for optimum flavor. Aroma is a good way to test this, they usually taste like they smell!

Watermelons are more difficult to test the ripeness due to their thick skin. Choose those that are firm with even coloration. It is best purchase a piece from a cut melon – look for firm, crisp, brightly colored flesh and a soft waxy rind.

Melons keep well in the refrigerator. If unripe when purchased, leave at room temperature for a few days until ripe, and the store in the refrigerator.

Melon Jelly Ice

Ingredients:


- 2 packs of green jelly

- 150 g sugar

- 750 ml of water

- 500 g of melon, diced

- 200 ml of sweetened condensed milk

- 200 ml melon syrup

- Shaved ice

How to make:

1. Mix green jelly and sugar, stir well.

2. Add water and stir.

3. Simmer over medium heat, stirring until boiling.

4. Remove and pour into a mold that has been soaked in water, let stand until hardened.

5. Remove from the mold, cut into cubes.

Presentation:

Prepare a serving bowl. Arrange the pieces of green jelly, diced melon, and shaved ice. Add melon syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Serve.
