Garlic is a native to Central Asia. China is the leading producer of garlic followed by India.

It is easy to grow and can be grown anytime of the year.

The cloves in the bulb are mainly used whether raw or cooked. It is frequently used in Indian cooking. Garlic can be made into powder, and 1/8 tsp of garlic powder is equal to 1 clove of raw garlic.

Some garlic pods have just 1 clove. This is called pearl garlic. It is full of all the good qualities of garlic. The garlic that is normally available is the one having 10 -15 cloves in a pod .

Keep garlic in an earthern pot to prevent spoilage.

Properties of Garlic

The active compound in garlic is allicin which is an antibiotic and an antifungal.

Garlic has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties. The typical garlic smell is due to diallyl disulphide, while the hot sensation is due to allicin.

Garlic is best eaten crushed, whether raw or cooked. Crushing damages the cells and allicin is released. Garlic destroys free radicals due to its antioxidant property.

Let the garlic sit for about 5 to 15 minutes after crushing. Crushing it releases the enzyme alliinase which converts alliin to allicin.

How to Eat Garlic

Eat garlic sometime after meals. Take a couple of sips of water first to moisten the mouth. Then keep ground garlic the size of a pea on the tongue and gulp it down with water. About 5 minutes after this one can feel it working in the stomach. If you don't feel anything your stomach is in pretty bad shape.

Garlic works best when eaten raw. However it should be also used in cooking .Especially, it does not raise cholesterol in vegetables made in ghee or clarified butter. Vegetables made in vegetable ghee or clarified butter but without garlic, raise cholesterol.

How to Apply Garlic Juice

Apply ground garlic or the juice on the affected parts for 5-10 minutes.

Caution: Garlic causes sharp burning sensation and can burn the skin, or can cause blisters. Apply cautiously for a short time only.

Garlic Smell

It can be removed by keeping dipped the deskinned garlic cloves in water for 12 hours.

Chewing coriander also masks garlic smell.

Do you eat Garlic in cooked or raw or in any form?

A Note:

Chinese garlic has been bleached and sprayed with banned chemicals as per news on the internet. You can read many articles about this. However, these articles are a few years old and I could not find any update on the latest position with regard to the safety of Chinese garlic.

Just a point I wished to mention.

just ask susan,

Its so heartening to learn that you are aware of the benefits of garlic and use it regularly. Yes, raw garlic is by far the most effective way to take garlic. Regarding the smell, it can be masked if you take it sometime before a meal or even drink milk after consuming raw garlic as I do it. I love garlic raw or cooked in any form.

Thanks so much for the read and your appreciative comments. I feel humbled.

Dear Rajan,

I am having high (7.4) uric acid. So, as I learnt from the net, lemon can reduce uric acid from the body. But, is it okay if I take lemon in the morning on empty stomach (or garlic in the morning on empty stomach?)Also, is garlic helps to increase uric acid? I hope you can help me with this rather confusing question.

Thank you very much for your writings.

Take care....

Being an asthmatic I’m always looking for and trying natural ways to control my asthma. I’m going to give the garlic juice and honey mixture a try. I've always loved lots of garlic. One of my favourite ways to eat it is to stab lots of holes into the breast of a chicken that is about to get roasted, pour olive oil over and then put lots of small chopped up pieces of garlic in the holes.

I also love to add a few cloves to the pan so they get roasted as well. I love the taste of it, but it's good that it's good for you too! I'm hungry now just thinking about Garlic Chicken, I'm going to have to get something to eat!

God created all natural plants for a purpose for human use. But garlic and water challenge me. The leaves of the trees also reveal a hidden treasure to human health. The world is an owesome place to live in when you have accepted to apply such knowledge as this you are teaching us.

How can we reach out to people who cannot access such information? People are dying innocently. All you have written, i confirm it fully right.

I used to be sickly but now my health was recovered. Garlic is the master of great health. There is no disease that has no cure. People just fail to persevere with good advice, they neglet it yet others have no access to these health bringing foods. Oh Lord God in heaven may you help us to understand these facts and truths. Thank you Rajan Jolly. When am opening my Email, I first come accross this website and I have to open it then I can do other things. It is strategic. Keep on.

I chew three pieces of garlic every night with one litre of warm water daily. The i chew two pieces of garlic sometimes in the morning. I swallow two little fruits of hot pepper every after breakfast. I grind cinnamon power and add hot water and drink at night. I do not take sugar, sodas, any beverage with added sugar. I just take warm water most of my time. I keep away from animal products. eggs, meat , milk. I eat ground nut and soya and millet as my source of protein. My story is too long. My son had diabetes, a hole in the heart and ulcers. They are no more. Just dieting .
