Ano Ang Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever

What is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever?

Dengue fever is very prevalent in the Philippines and other tropical countries. This can be fatal if not taken care of properly especially for children. It is a virus carried by mosquitoes and that being said, I believe that through personal responsibility this disease is highly avoidable and this is what I'll be discussing in this article.

There are many ways how one can avoid having dengue fever. Prevention is always better than cure, they alway say. There's no real cure to the dengue virus and hospitals and doctors can just assist in making the body stronger while the immune system fights the virus. At times, when blood platelet levels are low, some sort of plasma transfusion is needed and hospital bills can be very costly. So it is more important to be more informed and aware of how one can avoid this disease. It is better to be safe than sorry. Always keep yourself and your family protected and make sure you do the different steps in making sure that you avoid dengue.

My cousin actually got dengue just a few months ago and so I really learned a lot about the virus and its symptoms and effects and the different methods of treatment or helping the body fight it. One important thing I learned is that there are up to 4 types of this virus, if I remember correctly. And so even if you've had it before there's still a chance that you can get it again. The best way is still to take preventive steps.

How to Avoid Dengue Fever

There are many ways you can do to protect your home and your family from the dengue fever virus that comes from mosquitoes. Most of them are very simple, really. Shows that dengue fever is really a personal responsibility issue.

Putting a screen on your windows and doors is one of the best ways to keep mosquitoes out of your home. There are also different plants and herbs that repel mosquitoes like citronella or eucalyptus. Those are very simple ways to keep mosquitoes out of your home. Also, it's not just about keeping your surroundings tidy and clean. Remember that mosquitoes breed on clean stagnant water so be sure not to leave pails of water or other stuff like that in the open.

When going out, make sure you apply insect repellants. These are usually not that expensive (compared to the hospital bills that you might have to pay). Wearing jogging pants and covering up your legs is another good preventive measure especially if you are going outdoors since the legs aren't always in your line of vision and you might not notice when mosquitoes are feasting on you already. Another important thing that people have found out about the mosquitoes that carry the dengue fever virus is that there is only a time in the day when they come out. Early mornings and afternoons, if I remember correctly. So it's better to be more aware during those times.
