Words of wisdom for today from the Guardians of your Body Temple

Good day to you. And this is truly a good and blessed day.

We have observed that for the last few weeks, you have invested a lot of time and energy in intellectualizing this whole process to release up to sixty pounds from your body. We, as the team members, yes – there is more than one of us, called the Guardians of your Body Temple, have stood back, so to speak, and allowed your free will to do this.

Now that you have done your homework and have gained an understanding about nutrition and calorie-counting and exercise, we now urge you to be easy about this whole process. In other words, stop making this such an overwhelming and formidable challenge.

Focus instead on your end goal. You wish your body to be fit and healthy and whole. You, and the earthly powers that be, have identified that a person who is five foot three should weigh approximately 130 pounds. As of your last weigh-in, you have 50.5 pounds to release, in order to meet up with your goal.

We submit to you a picture of how that can happen. Imagine that there is an alternate you out there who already maintains a weight of 130 pounds. Her weight may fluctuate a bit from week to week; however, on average, she weighs 130 pounds. Let us call this other you: Parallel Universe You 130. This alternate you is happy in her weight, her nutrition habits, and her exercise habits; however, she is longing to activate her ability to write, perform stories, and to participate in other activities that are already fully activated in you.

Then, there is the current you. You are a published author of two books with a third manuscript due in a little over a month. You are a professional storyteller of over 20 years. You are a freelance writer. You have a loving and supportive husband, parents, brothers, in-laws, relatives, and friends. You have fully recovered from breast cancer. The only thing you lack is reaching this weight-loss goal.

This is what we urge each of you two to do.

Current You: Thank God that you currently weigh 130 pounds – ignoring the number you last saw on the scale of 180.5. Every Wednesday morning when you weigh yourself, take note of the number; however, view it like a data point that has temporarily gotten off track. Affirm instead that you weigh 130 pounds. Be thankful that the off-track data point is getting increasingly closer to being on track.

One way to meet your goal is to walk like you weigh your desired weight number: 130 pounds. Move and sit and hold your posture like a person who weighs that desired weight as well.

For example, lately, as you seek to get off the couch, you grimace as you anticipate that some of your joints will ache and give you pain as you get up. Some of this pain is an after-effect of the August 11, 21010 double mastectomy operation where both breasts were removed plus ten lymph nodes from under your left arm. We submit to you instead that immediately prior to your intention to stand after sitting for some time, you segment-intend that this time when you get up, it will be pain-free and easy. Give thanks for your agility and dexterity. If it still proves to be painful, give thanks that you still have limbs that move and obey your desire to stand and sit and move around. Focus on the part of you that was free of pain or discomfort when you made this move rather than focusing on the part of the maneuver that felt uncomfortable. The more you focus on the good part, the less you will activate the feelings of discomfort.

To further clarify this point, many people who are over 50 give in to the thought that this increased age will yield you days of pain and discomfort and decreased agility and dexterity. You look at people living in a nursing home such as your beloved mother-in law and her lovely roommate who are both wheelchair-bound due to Parkinson’s and other ailments. Just because this appears true for some people over 50 does not mean that this has to be your truth. Please recall that there are several people over 50, 60, and even 70 that you are aware of who definitely have not accepted this vision as being their truth. They are able to run marathons and dance and move around just as easily as someone in their twenties and thirties. Which reality do you wish to claim for yourself?

Since we know that you wish to claim a reality where you always can move around easily and smoothly and without pain, we suggest that you always picture yourself as being able to move like someone who is young, healthy, and fit.

To continue, as someone who weighs 130 pounds and who is healthy and fit, intuit what food you should eat to maintain that lovely weight. Immerse yourself in the mentality of knowing that you have already reached this weight-loss goal so that you can reach for the next big challenge to improve your life and the life of others.

Parallel Universe You 130: As you seek to narrow the gap between you and the other Debbie, focus on writing each day and practicing performance stories. As you seek to align yourself with that other Debbie, know that she is seeking to align herself with you. Picture this happy day when the two of you become one. Each will bring special gifts and attributes to the other. Once joined, let no man, woman, child, or life challenge tear you two asunder.

On the sidelines, Portion Control Kid cheers you both on.

A challenge and an invitation

I challenge you, my readers, to focus on your end goal. Imagine that there is a part of you already living that life who longs to have some of the talents and gifts you currently possess. Invite that part of you to take residence in your body so that the two of you can also become greater than the sum of your parts. Then intuit day by day what steps you should take to make that vision become a reality.

If you feel so inclined, share your end goal in the comment section below. Let us support each other in achieving our most-loved dreams for the year 2011 and beyond.

Getting More: How to Negotiate to Achieve Your Goals in the Real World
Getting More: How to Negotiate to Achieve Your Goals in the Real World

A former Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times, Diamond (Law/Univ. of Pennsylvania) debuts with a superb how-to based on his immensely popular course on negotiation. The author prepares for any negotiation by asking himself, “What are my goals? Who are ‘they’? What will it take to persuade them?” Depending on the answers, he then draws selectively on bargaining tools and strategies described in this anecdote-rich book. Others in his field assume that most people in a negotiation are rational. Not so, says Diamond. People in the real world—whether friends, store clerks or CEOs—tend to be emotional and irrational in their interactions. Since the People involved make up 90 percent of a negotiation (substance accounts for only 10 percent), you must negotiate based on your understanding of “the pictures in the head of the other party”—a phrase Diamond frequently uses to underscore that psychology trumps the issues at the bargaining table. Successful negotiators must prepare, learn what makes others tick (through research and small talk), take small steps, communicate clearly, turn problems into opportunities, avoid deceit and embrace differences. Above all, writes the author, they must stay focused on specific goals and connect with the other party. Many of Diamond’s suggestions are counterintuitive…This immensely useful book will have wide appeal and leave many readers anxious to put their new skills to work.

Completed and Released in 1993, this video's format is more a documentary released with the band's perspective on their development as a successful writing/performing band. J.Elliot gives us a look at personal performances away from Leppard, as well as showcasing the band's talents on international programming. This video gives the fan a look at what has made the band successful through the last 20 years, and promises that through change there is growth and development. Not a rigid "music video" this documentary format gives us a truer appreciation for the individuals and their contributions to the band's success.
