Ayurveda Tips for Sinus Problems
Reasons for Sinus Allergies
One reason for sneezing and sinus allergies is attributed to climatic changes. When there is change in seasons the atmosphere is either most humid or extremely dry. Just as changes in season, change of residence, changes in water, changes in the way we use water etc also give rise to allergies. Another reason is pollution of the environment. Our bodies which were once capable of withstanding these changes and adjust accordingly have now lost the capacity due to age, poor intake of nutritious food, addiction to junk food, build up of toxins in our bodies, excessive daytime nap, no adequate sleep at night, and various other reasons.
The best way to overcome this problem is to strengthen our immune system. The first step towards this is removal of toxins called 'mala' in Ayurvedic parlance.

How to Detoxify your Body
Apply vilvadhi oil onto your head and bathe after 30 minutes. Ideal would be to do this daily, or at least twice a week. After bath apply a pinch of rasnathi choornam on top of head. Regular application will help cure many sinus related problems like catching cold easily, stuffed ears, stuffed nose, sneezing etc.
Not sleeping daytime and not keeping awake late into night, going to bed at the right time and not sleeping straight under the fan etc, will help a lot to alleviate the severity of the symptoms.
Proper bowel movement, cleanliness, ample exercise without getting tired, eating nutritious food in time, participating in activities that promote calmness of mind, enthusiasm, courage etc, all these go a long way in building up our immunity.
Let me remind you once again, by bathing in warm water after applying oil on head and body, you are strengthening the skin and head to withstand the onslaught of pollution. By exercising, you are strengthening the lungs. Ample sleep strengthens the nerves. Intake of nutritious food gives you the necessary energy for all your activities. Yoga and meditation help you to restore calmness of mind, courage etc. All these build your immunity and save you from not only sinus problems but almost all other health complications.
For people who catch cold easily, Ayurveda recommends taking Chyavanapras lehyam or asvagandhathi lehyam. 5 gm of this can be taken on empty stomach every day morning and evening.
