Next steps
We are only a few days away from several major steps in this pregnancy. On September 10th we will go to our first prenatal check-up appointment. Believe it or not, up until this point we haven't told our families yet! I'm pretty surprised that we managed to keep it a secret, but so far, so good! Karen and I decided that we would tell them on the same day as the first appointment. The plan is to invite both families out to our condo under the guise of it being a birthday get-together for Karen. Yes, it's Karen's 24th birthday on September 9th, but we're really getting family together to break the news to them all at once.
How it's going to happen: We are going to have our families over for pizza and cake. Then, at some point Karen's going to open her birthday presents in front of everyone. We will secretly have our baby shirts on under our regular shirts (mine says, "I love my pregnant wife" and Karen's says, "baby" and has an arrow to her stomach!) and when the moment is right we will shed our outer shirts and show them the baby shirts. That moment will happen when Karen is about done with the presents and I will get up and say something about how we secretly got a couple of them presents (we bought both sets of parents different types of baby shirts!) even though it's Karen's birthday. Then, about the time they're opening their presents, we'll shed our outer shirts and they'll be surprised!
Oh, we are so excited to become parents. Things have been quite interesting for us since we found out about it. I've been trying not to stress about the costs of the pregnancy, Karen has been suffering from having a queasy stomach and feeling otherwise sick all the time. For the record, Karen has done SO well for "little bit." That's what we named our baby as s/he is forming in Karen's womb! Karen is watching what she's eating, she's exercising (which helps with her morning sickness) and she's being an otherwise lovely mother for our little bit. I'm so proud of her!
Well, it is almost dinner time and I'm going to surprise Karen with a lovely home cooked meal. This should help little bit to get extra nutrition and help Karen feel special!
Lord thank you for our precious life we created. Thank you that we get to participate as co-creators with You. Keep our child safe in your arms and continue to help Karen's health. We trust in you for the finances and the details of this awesome responsibility you have given us. Amen.
