Our bodies are very elaborate space suits we wear in order to live on this planet and interact with our environment. Because we arrive on this planet already wearing our space suits some people believe that they are their space suits. They identify with their bodies and believe that they are their bodies. People who identify with their bodies tend to be preoccupied with their physical appearance and make judgements about themselves and others based on what they see.
The body and its functions are controlled by the subconscious. This is a part of the mind that also holds all that we have learned. Every experience we have ever had and how we dealt with each is stored in the subconscious. Whenever we are faced with the same or a similar situation we can react automatically without having to think about what to do.
The only problem with this is that we have also stored inefficient and even damaging reactions to situations we have dealt with in the past. So if a person has learned how to smoke in certain situations then every time that situation occurs the smoking program will be automatically triggered and out comes the cigarette without having to even think about it.
If a person has deliberately suppressed an emotion like sadness then the subconscious may replace crying with an asthmatic attack.
Some people believe they are their brains and they identify with their thoughts and intellect. This kind of person is constantly analysing, criticising and judging. This kind of person becomes a victim of mind because instead of them using the mind as a tool they allow the mind to behave like a runaway train and they find themselves at the mercy of their own minds.
A disciplined mind can achieve almost anything for the person who directs it with love and wisdom. An undisciplined mind can destroy a person life and reek havoc in the world.
The mind is like the genie in Aladdin's lamp. The mind is designed to obey you without question but instead of just three wishes there is no limit to what you can ask for. Nothing is beyond the mind except when the owner of the mind places limits on the mind.
It is our beliefs that set limits on what the mind is allowed to create for us. Ironically it is the decisions we make about ourselves, other people and the world that become the limits we place on our own minds.
To free the mind of all limitations before ordering from the genie would require us to drop opinion and judgements. Without opinion the mind is free to give you what ever you desire. There is no point asking the genie to create wealth if you are of the opinion that you keep getting into debt and are destined to struggle financially.
Thinking is the way we communicate with our genie. By thinking about something often enough with sufficient emotion, with a feeling of inevitability is the surest way to summon the genie to create this very thing. A person without a disciplined mind may find it impossible redirect negative thought and so end up creating negativity.
If you want potatoes why then would you plant cabbage seeds and then feel disappointed when you see cabbages filling your garden? If you want peace and happiness in your life then why on earth would you start your day watching the News on TV? By allowing your thoughts to be directed toward the very opposite of what you say you desire you are sabotaging yourself.
Who Am I?
There is nothing wrong with having opinions and beliefs in fact without them you would be without ego. Your ego is your creation. You have used all your beliefs and opinions to create who you believe you are. To test this all you have to do is ask yourself the question: “Who am I?”
Every answer you come up with will be an opinion and since opinion is not truth then nothing you think up as an answer will ever be true. So if there is no thought that can describe who you are then you cannot be who you think you are.
Be still and know that "I" is not that!
My wife Mary and I have created a number of audio programs that you can purchase and download to your computer from our website some of which are designed to get you to investigate who you really are.
These programs guide you into suspending your opinions and beliefs allowing you access to that which lies behind all your beliefs and opinions and which cannot be described by any idea your mind can come up with. I invite you to be still and just Be...
