BENEFITS OF BREATHING EXERCISES

Breathing exercises are essential for a healthy lifestyle. Our body needs these exercises and it is not wise to avoid them. These exercises get your heart racing, they are stimulating and give a never-ending flow of oxygen to all the tissues of the body. Especially the brain rejuvenates with the steady supply of oxygen and it livens up.

          Studies show that walking for 15 minutes three to four times a day improves breathing in people, and it also gives relief from lung diseases like emphysema. So, it is a very healthy habit to get up early in the morning and walk for atleast 15 to 20 minutes. It is also good to walk for atleast 15 minutes after taking a meal.

          Eating around five apples a week is helpful to improve the proper functioning of lungs. Tomatoes do the same work in our body so consume lots of tomatoes for proper functioning of the lungs.

           Open the windows and allow circulation of air in the house. This will help in oxygenation of the body and make breathing easier.

            Deep breathing exercises also give relaxation to the body and mind. Breathe in for 3 seconds, breathe out for 3 seconds, then pause and hold your breath for next 3 seconds. Repeat the same process again and again. This breathing exercise will improve the breathing rate and ultimately give relaxation to the mind and body. Deep breathing will open up the tiniest of air sacs in the lungs and gradually day-by-day the lung capacity and efficiency will improve. The brain will become younger and sharper and memory and other brain functions will improve.

          This deep breathing exercise is best done early in the morning and at night before retiring to bed. Breathing exercise also gives relief to people suffering from asthama. It is also helpful in curing the dark spots from the skin as these spots occur due to deficiency of oxygen in the body.

            Pollution level in the air is rising day-by-day and the content of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide is  also rising. Hence deep breathing exercise is very essential to oxygenate the haemoglobin of the blood. Also planting of more trees will help in enriching the air we breathe with oxygen which gives us life. Hence, we need to do deep breathing exercises to enhance our mind and body health.

if you go through my hubs you will see I put a lot of stress on prayanaam and breathing exercises most of the diseases go away without medication if breathing is done properly

Dear artour. I think that very slow and light: only 3-4 breaths per minute will not help in opening up the tiny air sacs of the lungs at the end of the air - sacs tree of the lungs. I think that slow deep breathing will facilitate proper oxygenation of the blood. This is for the breathing exercises though. For breathing at rest the breaths may not be as deep as that but not light as well. I visited the site you suggested and found it profoundly informative. ThankQ.

So many benefits from learning to breathe properly - something we just don't do.

I read recently that learning to breathe properly will even lower your blood pressure. I believe it. I feel energized when I take a deep breath. No wonder yoga has so many proven benefits.
