Bring It: P90X Day 13

P90X is an extreme workout. I am here, using my own body, to show you whether or not the P90X program actually works. This workout isn't for everybody, but I am stubborn, and saying that I can't do something just doesn't work for me.

Bring It

It is Saturday and it is a good day. I love Saturday because that means I get to do KenpoX. Kenpo literally means the "law of the fist" and that means you can expect to do several martial arts/karate moves with kicks and punches.

Not only will you be able to learn moves to defend yourself, but you will also break a decent sweat and get rid of your frustrations. That is why Saturday is the perfect day for this workout. After all the stresses from the weekday, this will allow you to release. You will feel much better once you are finished.

Now, for my current P90X personal journey, this is only the second time that I have done this workout. But, I have found it is one of my favorites of the P90X system. It is a kick in the pants and it is a whole lot of fun. I noticed that I had gotten already half way through the workout, before I even realized it. Being that the workout is an hour long, it is a great feeling to know that time flew by so fast!

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun

I am one of those unusual people. I enjoy exercise and find that when I am going through one of my kicks, I become very obsessive. I like variety, but mostly, I like to do workouts that I consider fun. If you are having fun with your workout, it no longer feels like you are working.

Often times, people give up on their workouts because they find themselves getting bored. It becomes a chore. Therefore, if you find you are getting bored with your workout, it is time to change things up. So, what workouts do you think are fun?

Having fun

Some people might not think that P90X is a fun workout. Getting through the program might take some persistance if you like variety and you might struggle to get to the end. However, if you want to add a little exercise to your life, it is easy to do if you find a workout that is fun for you.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Go for a bike ride: Riding a bike is a great way to go. Not only do you get a good workout, but you can do it with a friend, or you can go with the entire family. Taking your family will also teach your children the importance of physical activity. Bikes will also allow you to cover more ground before you are exhausted. Exploring isn't so difficult anymore. It is also green friendly since you can save money on gas and ride your bike to the store. So what are you waiting for? Get those bike tires pumped up and go for a ride.
  2. Go swimming: I will admit, swimming is not my strong suit. I have never learned how to swim properly so ever stroke I do is something I taught myself. However, I can still do the back stroke with somewhat good form and I have got the doggy paddle down pat. If you are a good swimmer or you can at least go in water without drowing, this is a great way to burn some calories while cooling off. If you can't swim, you can just walk the lenght of the pool. Both will burn calories. As an added bonus, the cool water will also help burn more because your body is working to keep the body temperature up. So get out there and go for a dip!
  3. Bellydancing: This is a great workout for anybody, but is probably more geared toward females. I have done several bellydancing workouts and I will tell you - it is painful. The moves are precise and the workout is intense. At the same time, it is also fun and very sensual. That being said, it could be beneficial for other areas of your life!
  4. Sports: Nothing burns calories faster while making time fly then sports. You can choose from a variety. Whether it is playing catch with a baseball or having a big group come together for an amataur football game. You willl be so caught up in the competition you won't even realize that you are indeed working out. Some of my favorite sports to play are raquetball, tennis, shooting hoops, or even kicking around the soccor ball. You will get your heart rate up, increase your coordination, and improve your skills! Who said you need to be an athlete!
  5. Hiking: Hiking is a great way to explore while taking in the great outdoors. National parks should have a variety of trails, from beginner to experienced. On the way, you can see wildlife and beautiful flowers. Or, maybe you can just climb up to the top of the mountain. Just make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and shoes.
  6. Play with your kids: Kids like to run and jump and play. Not only will you be the super parent they are looking for, but you will be getting your exercise as well. So run around and chase them. Play a game of tag. Do what a kid does. Join them and the inches will start to melt off!
  7. Video Games: Now I am not talking about the video games where you veg in front of the TV killing zombies or pretending that you are playing sports, I am talking about the interactive video games. Whether you have the Playstation, Xbox or the Nintendo Wii, you have options out there. The Playstation Move has come out recently with a way to move around and get active. The Xbox also has the kinect which brings video games to life. However, the Nintendo is ultimately the first game system that allowed you to get interactive. So, grab your Wii Sports or invest in Wii Fit. You will be exercising while you are playing video games. Put, don't forget about Dance Dance Revolution or Just Dance. Those too will get your sweat on. With the fitness revolution all over, check your game console for their workout selections. They all have them, all you have to do is play!
  8. Sex: So, I couldn't go without saying this one. Yes, you are exercising with this activity. And the best part is, you don't have to worry about proper shoes or proper clothing attire. Just have fun. Warning though - this activity - if you don't take precautions - may cause you to gain weight!

Have Fun; Get Healthy

It just goes to show, that exercise does not need to be torture. You can do whatever you want, you just need to remember to get moving.

In today's world, I have heard so many people complain that exercise is boring. But it doesn't have to be. You have a selection to choose from. So find something fun to do and get out there and get healthy!

You are a trooper my friend! I won't say good luck...because you won't need it! I will say good hub...because it was.

@icciev - football is a lot of fun and I be you don't even think of it as exercise. Glad you caught the humor in the last part. I couldn't resist putting it in there. Got to keep it real! LOL

@ThoughtSandwhiches - I figured, I had to write something that EVERYBODY could relate to. See, we all do some sort of exercise... maybe... I shouldn't really speculate at that. But, on the other hand, clothing and shoes might be necessary - depending on the person!

I tell you what though - glad tommorrow is an easy day! :)

HAHAHA... I couldn't help but to laugh out loud at the end!! Great hub though!! Some truly great advice on different ways to be active and have fun at the same time. I know so many people who can't think of the fun things to do in life to stay active and you did a great job listing just a few ways! Very inspirational and fun as well :-)

BBG - great fun hub! You thought of other things for me to do.

Let's see.....

#1. I don't look good in a helmet!

#2. I love swimming but only have a bath tub.

#3. Where in the heck did ya get that photo? It's great!

#4. I like that one - but I think I'd like to go pro. Ya think I could try out for the Rams? They aren't that good!

#5. Can't find my ass with both hands and a road map - I'd probably get lost!

#6. They don't let me play with them anymore.....i miss that one!

#7. Video poker is awesome but I need to move on to something bigger maybe because I don't even sweat anymore doing that anymore. I guess I'm gaining upper strength and it's all in the thumbs.

#8. Don't give my husband any big ideas! Besides I still charge him and he can only afford the one day a week:) lmao!

Your hubs are so fun - and I've really been looking forward to the morning work outs! Go girl - go!!

@Myth - It was fun coming up with great ways to stay active without actually doing P90X... see, it is possible without going all insane like I have... lol... and as for the last one - I just couldn't resist. Unfortunately, I used up a lot of my fun stuff this past week so coming up with new stuff might be difficult. So, maybe next Saturday I might have to write about why it would be fun to punch and kick! LOL

@Real - I got a solution!

1. Nobody looks good in a helmet. I think it is a conspiracy to make us stray away from staying fit.

2. Swimming in your bathtub is fun. I used to do it as a kid. Bella still does it. Just be careful with all the splashing.

3. That is a photo of me at a Renaissance Fair in Colorado. I wonder how many people realized that it was actually a picture of the hub author. My tummy still needs more belly dancing as it is a little flab, but, for the most part, I love the picture anyway! And I was confident enough to walk around all day with my belly hanging out :)

4. I tried playing sports a few times, but they kicked me out because I played too rough. I once played basketball with my cousin and tour off a whole leg of my jeans. Now that is how you play the game. I also once broke my two front teeth. HOwever, playing football I got a touchdown and did the spike with a dance after ward. Sports serves for some good memories! LOL

5. If you get lost - don't worry - that just means you have a better workout!

6. Force them into it... say because your the momma... or just borrow mine. They wear me out! LOL

7. Glad your thumbs are getting a good workout. If you get a Wii you will find that you can work on your bowling arm as well. That is one of my favorites... and the only way I can consistently get strikes! LOL

8. If I tag you with this on Facebook will your husband read this... mwhahahahaha... I mean, I don't want to give him any ideas. Don't let my husband read this either. I don't want to give him any ideas either... lol... especially since I don't get paid. Now I understand why you are able to afford all those sales! LOL!

That was fun... I love lists! LMAO

Loved your list and as others have commented, #8 is a good one. I'm beyond the gaining weight consequence though, thank goodness! Takes guts (no pun intended!) to walk around in a bellydancing costume all day! I took a couple classes and agree they can be a good workout. It's amazing the muscle control and fitness some of the dancers have

I was having my morning workout (thanks to you!) with my coffee and decided to mess with you a little bit:) hahaha! Seriously - that is an awesome photo and I didn't realize it was you! Love it...you look great!

The entire leg of your jeans got torn off?! That's funny and not surprising to me at all soldier! Lmao

Yes....I sell package deals to Dave - the only difference is in the more expensive one. I promise not to talk:) lol lol Doesn't he wish!

barbergirl28 profile image

@Danette - I wish I could say that I was beyond gaining weight from number 8... ironically, that is the reason I have always gained weight in the first place. However, there are no plains anytime soon, so hopefully it isn't an issue.

He he - I loved that costume. We rented it for the faire. It was the only time we ever rented costumes and it was a blast. Glad I had the confidence to do it! I still like the bellydancing workouts, but I go through phases. I lost my video that I really enjoyed and just never found one that was nearly as good! Good thing I already know the moves! :)

@Real - I love being messed with... it strengthens my brain power to come back with more... lol... makes me think. I didn't think anybody would recognize me in that photo... it was my blonde phase from back in 2003. When I got out of the military I decided to go crazy and redesign my entire self. After 3 boxes of home hair dye - my hair was orange. $200 later, it was fixed by a professional. Fun fun fun times. As for missing a pants leg... that was on my cousin... before I joined the military. Guess I always had an aggressive side! he he

It's good to see you're having fun with some of the exercises. I'm sure the creator was thinking of some way to make some aspects fun for everyone. It definately helps.

Keep up the fight BBG! :)

lol... Oh I enjoy coming up with unique ways to have a good workout and still have fun. I like bowling and cross country skiing a lot! Well and water skiing and tubing and stuff as well! Also I knew that was you :-) I love that picture!! You guys sure had a lot of good times together.... and having fun at the same time. Being fit and having fun in life is totally the way to live!!

@Daffy Duck - I am a firm believer that if you don't have fun... you will never keep on with it. I like to stay positive and I have a long way to go. 90 days is a great accomplishment for anybody, and usually I have been known to start out strong and then get distracted by life. That isn't going to happen this time. Thanks for the support. Keep it coming. The first two weeks were the easiest for me to push myself... it is usually continuing after this that starts becoming a problem! :)

barbergirl28 profile image

@Myth - I have to say... one thing that Eli and I are not short of us is the adventures. We may spend some money and never have much of a nest egg, but we live and experience more stuff than most people have by the time that they get to our age. I can't wait for our trip back out to Wisconsin in February. We are driving again so I am trying to see what other route we can take to do some more exploring. :)

mythicalstorm273 profile image

mythicalstorm273 5 years ago

That sounds like a lot of fun! I know with the kids it is a little rough, but road trips are great! Plus if you take a random different route you get to see stuff you might not have seen in a long time or ever! Explore explore... gotta live a little :-) lol

barbergirl28 profile image

barbergirl28 5 years ago from Hemet, Ca Author

@Myth - The kids do make roadtrips a little rough but they are one of the reasons we get out and do so much exploring. I am super excited though. We were going to take the Amtrack but I want to try it on a shorter trip before we sit on a train for 40 hours. Max is totally in the terrible 2s and I would rather drive us crazy in a car than a bunch of strangers on a train! LOL

mythicalstorm273 profile image

lol. I totally understand that. ROAD TRIPS!!!! I can't wait to see Max again! These next four months are going to go sooooo slow... yet quick! EEEEKKKK lol.

@Myth - but from the sounds of it, you will be pretty busy. So it will be hear before you know it. And don't worry, if Max is still in diapers I will let you change a few cause I know how much you miss him! ;)

RealHousewife profile image

RealHousewife 5 years ago from St. Louis, MO

BBG - Ccol! You're taking an Amtrak? I just took one to Chicago - wish I would have known they had wifi available and electrical outlets! Take sweaters or blankets bc they keep it freezing in them too!! We were so cold it was uncomfortable and it was 100 outside. Even Dave was cold - that never happens.

barbergirl28 profile image

barbergirl28 5 years ago from Hemet, Ca Author

@Real - We thought about taking the Amtrack, but this time we are going to be driving. I don't want to test everybody elses patience with Max aboard a train for 40 hours. We will try a shorter trip first. Not to mention, we would have to get a room so we can at least contain Max and at least rent a car so the train would end up being more expensive then just driving. But, we will take one probably this summer. I want to plan a trip up to San Francisco so we will try it then. But I am super excited about it. Always wanted to take a trip on a train! :)

RealHousewife profile image

RealHousewife 5 years ago from St. Louis, MO

I had never been on one before and I will say - take a short trip first! Lol if I was with My kids on a longer one - yeah they would have been bored - for kids the novelty runs out after the first hour:).

barbergirl28 profile image

barbergirl28 5 years ago from Hemet, Ca Author

@Real - Ha ha - you confirmed what I was kind of figuring anyway. But, we will end up driving, which we both really love to do when we have the time. Not to mention we are going to take a short detour on the way their to stop by and visit you for some coffee - so heads up - have it brewing and make it so its chewy... lol
