Calcification of the Pineal Gland: Symptoms and Effects.

History

About seven years ago I was employed as a building controls engineer for a large lighting company. I traveled all over the USA programming, installing, starting up systems and training clients. After living in New York State for a year, I returned to California to live and work (I am California born and raised).

Not more than two months after getting back to California, I suddenly became very ill with symptoms much like Multiple Sclerosis; Numbness in hands, arms, legs and feet, heart irregularities, headaches, blurred vision, hearing loss, memory loss, uncontrollable hand and arm shaking, dizziness and much more.

I was fired from my job while on temporary disability, and without medical insurance. Prior to the insurance running out, I had every test imaginable done always with the same results; (There is nothing wrong with you).

Two and a half years ago I got the local doctor to order a blood test for Lyme Disease due to my living in the countryside of New York.

The Symptoms

The symptoms I have and still experience are many and varied. They include, headaches, pain in all extremities, numbness in hands and feet, heart arrhythmia, memory loss, disorientation, balance problems, loss of weight, loss of muscle control in arms, hands and feet, and a few more.

The Diagnosis

At that point the symptoms had became worse and increased daily. I managed to get blood tests and a CT scan done and finally after all this time have a concrete report of a physical disease that may be responsible for my symptoms.

The report states in part: "Calcification is identified in the pineal as well as the choroid plexus. There is mild prominent cisterna ". "There is a small calcific density just posterior to the fourth ventrical ".

I spent years trying to get Veterans Medical Benefits set up and then be able to see a specialist or two and get further information on how serious this is and what the possible treatments and outcomes might be. Unfortunately, I have been denied any help from the VA.

I have researched this on the internet and can find only scarce information. I am curious to know if there are many others with this or similar issues and what their outcomes are or were.

Comments Welcome

I welcome comments, discussions and interaction with you on this subject. I will update this Hub as I gather more information and or get some data on my personal condition. In the meantime I write here and enjoy learning and sharing with you all.

Curiad, I'm sorry you are having so many problems health wise. It MUST be frustrating..I had never heard of calcification of the pineal gland. I looked it up and it's interesting that call it the "third" eye in other cultures yet kinda scary.. just because it is associated with serotonin and all those type hormones. I also read somewhere that calcification is part of the normal aging process... anyway, I found a link on how to decrease or stop the calcification here:

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/how-to-decrease-or-s...

I don't know, you may have already read it.. just thought I would throw it in here.

I do wish you the best of luck and hope things start looking up for you. Take Care!

Hi Curiad.

1. A few thoughts came up: (Hope these help)

When You mentioned MS. I thought of my Aunt who died as a result of this. If the symptoms etc. are closely similar, you may find the info. etc. on this useful for your condition. There Is a society for MS. In UK. So there must be in US. They will advise you better than I can.

2. While dealing with renal failure, I decided that creamy foodstuffs, cheese, butter, marge, clog up arteries. A case of adding 2 and 2 together. Nor do I believe in the claims of yogurts/whatever that say they reduce cholesterol. As some chemicals can inhibit the production of other chemicals. So, for all we know the test is being blocked and as this can't be proved whose to say either way? So I just avoid them, though I've overdone it with bought sandwhiches of late as convenience. Don't feel any better for it.

Also, fewer different types and less rich diet helps because the body gets used to what it gets and isn't constantly having to adapt too much, while if less rich and/or acidic, the stomach, inside etc. doesn't need to work so hard to counter and deal with what it is getting.

3. This thought blew me away when it occurred:

Mum always said "If you don't use it you lose it.", Such as muscles weakening if you don't exercise regularly.

Now here's the Stinger. As you say about "Seat of the soul", so perhaps -PERHAPS- You may need to have a look or deeper, longer more fulfilling look and learn about your more spiritual side?

-All these are a guess, I hope they help. Please let me know. For instance The 2nd will take about 3 to 6 months minimum to see any difference. The rest I don't know enough about.

Thanks Bilal, I hope the neurospecialist can help you. I have been fighting for almost five years since I first became ill to get the VA to provide me with medical care. They have been denying me all this time. I also have been turned down by medi-Cal and have no employer so no medical that way. It's been a long fight with no results. I need to see a neurologist but can not sfford that without some kind of help.

Thank you James, Since I wrote this hub, I have made some small progress. The VA has agreed to send me to a hearing specialist. The loss of hearing is only one of the many symptoms I suffer from but it is a start!

Bren 4 years ago

Hello Curaid, I am a Pineal Gland Tumor SURVIVOR !!! I too had your symptoms and for years know one would listen to me!! The tumor some of which was calcified was 1.9 cm and that is huge!! I had it removed May 2010.. The surgery is one of the most dangerous and difficult neuro surgeries there is !!There are not many people like us and the doctors do not seem to understand us!!I wish I could talk to you by phone... Your hearing will most likely come back once they remove that in your brain, But my vision has never came back in my left eye and it feels different..Some how you must talk to me!! I wish you the best of luck with this for your going to need it!! One good thing for you is that you live in Cali where there are many good doctors!! I was not so lucky :( Try going to the Skull Base Institute in LA...I heard they are amazing Take Care.. :)

Thank you for you sharing this Bren. You are right, every doctor I have seen has dismissed my many symptoms off as stress or just say there is nothing wrong with me. I only got the MRI results showing this at the time I wrote this hub in 2011.I just hope I can get the VA to send me to a neurologist.

Decalcify the pineal - search www.earthclinic.com

Best posts usually by "ted from Bankok"

Pay close attention to solutions that have-

sodium thiosulfate

borax

citric acid

malic acid (raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar)

water with a high silica content (fiji water)

horse tail (high in silica)

In my opinion- it seems that the back area of your brain is calcifying or more precisely (prematurely biomineralizing) and causing signal disruption.

All the above are "solvents" towards soft tissue biomineralization and may help- do your research and learn about them.

In order to stop further mineralization- one must figure out what the source is and reduce or stop intake of the problem (look at calcium supplements or the like as potential sources.)

Additionally, toning (creating audible vibrations) like the ooommmm sound in mediation and the gutteral sounds of tribal dancing. Look at various cultures that believe in "third eye" awakening. These practices can help stimulate your pineal by sound vibrations. The vibrations cause more blood flow and vibrate the surrounding tissue- ideally loosing the soft tissue mineralization.

None of these ideas are overnight cures but could potentially prove beneficial if practiced on a regular basis.

Also look up chelating- there may be solutions in that subject.

The pineal gland is a very important gland, and is actually the first gland formed in the body. It's responsible for immune health, the sleep cycle, and countless other important things. Please check my article on melatonin for more: http://hubpages.com/health/Melatonin-The-Natural-W...

Also, since I'm a dental health professional, I've come across this topic often, as fluoride is the main culprit in pineal gland calcification. Please consider these simple exercises to cleanse your pineal gland for free within a few days: http://youtu.be/PYHLv44KqXw

By vibrating your pineal gland at certain frequencies, the calcification will break off. There is no need to go to a doctor, as it's easy to accomplish yourself. Good luck!

Dear Curiad,

From what I have researched and learned about the pineal gland and the calcification process, my best recommendation I can give you is to approach this in a spiritual way, along with treating it physically. Keep away from sodium flouride, its in toothpaste, preserved foods, and even tap water in many places. I'm sure you've done much research on how to decalcify, so I will explain the spirituality part. It seems crazy to think, but imagine your pineal gland being an antaena to pick up higher frequencies in our universe. Quantum physics shows us that everything in the universe is light particles sitting on an infinite amount of everchanging wavelengths, or frequencies. I'll quit ranting and end this by saying please look deeper into your spirituality, and your oneness to all in the universe. Hope something in this rant could serve as some benefit to you.

Peace and love,

Cody

Also, a video called Am I Free, Or Am I a Puppet by Alan Watts, a true genius. These are just a couple of things that might help you bust through that limited, self defeating mindset. Since your problems occurred so soon after returning to California, I would suspect you are living in a major metropolitan area that is loaded with EMFs Electro Magnetic Fields....which probably has a very different EMF pollution environment which you cannot get away from unless you move to a rural area away from wifi, cell phones and cell phone towers, cordless phones, microwaves, overhead transmission lines, etc. You may be one of those people that are super electrosesitive. Most everyone has calcified pineal glands and it is good to undergo strategies to eliminate the calcification by drinking distilled water that you raise the PH to 7.0 with baking soda and potassium bicarbonate. But the best info on EMFs can be found http://www.jackkruse.com/ Use the blog index to find the EMF series. There are 8 I believe in the series. Also there is a forum for people to discuss the topics in the blog series. http://www.jackkruse.com/forum/ Dr Kruse is a neurosurgeon that gets deep into the physics and biochemistry of the body. The electromagnetic fields are very deliterious to the health of the population. Good luck

TJ 3 years ago

Hello Curiad,

I stumbled upon this page searching for information about the pineal gland. I read your symptoms, and I noticed that many of them overlap with those caused by magnesium deficiency. I'm not saying this is the cure, since such symptoms can be caused by numerous other things (and I'm not sure if magnesium deficiency can occur as suddenly as in your case), but supplementation of magnesium is probably not a bad idea anyway, as more than 50% of all westerners are magnesium deficient (and many more probably have sub-optimal levels). Read this page: http://george-eby-research.com/html/depression-anx... for more information. Search the page for your symptoms. The article focusses on depression, but many other useful information is on there! A great additional source of magnesium is magnesium oil (a solution of magnesium chloride in water). It has worked very well for me.

Sincerely,

TJ

PS: this might also apply to ajordan!

Dear Curiad,

I'm a 23 year old male with some of the same symptoms. I've experienced strange tingling sensations, heart arrhythmia, dizziness, blurred vision, decreased balance and general fatigue. All my tests came back normal, but my CT indicated a calcified pineal gland and a small arachnoid cyst. It's clear to me that we're both experiencing the same illness but perhaps different in severity. I'm going back to the neurologist on monday to present the CT results and see what treatment he suggests. I'll keep you updated.

Good luck with your health, and I wish you all the best.

TJ 3 years ago

Hi Curiad/Mark,

I would also like to add that magnesium plays an important role in the calcium balance in your body. Calcium needs magnesium to go where it is needed. Without adequate magnesium, calcium will just accumulate in various places, flooding these tissues with calcium (calcification). For example, the calcium will not reach the bones effectively, that is why osteoporosis is one of the many consequences of low magnesium-levels. The calcium will also accumulate in the muscles, leading to 'knots' (or 'trigger points'). (So it may be possible that pineal calcification is just another symptom, and not the cause of the rest of your symptoms, but that is just speculation from my part.) Increasing the magnesium intake will result in reversing these processes. It is also a good idea to lower your calcium intake. I have some interesting scientific articles on magnesium, such as 'Magnesium: Natures Physiologic Calcium Blocker' (1984, times cited 507), 'Suboptimal magnesium status in the United States: are the health consequences underestimated?' (2012, times cited 12), 'Rapid recovery from major depression using magnesium treatment' (2006, times cited 51). Also, here is a list of symptoms of magnesium deficiency I copied from a site:

SIGNS OF MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY

The classic physical signs of low magnesium are

Neurological:

Behavioral disturbances

Irritability and anxiety

Lethargy

Impaired memory and cognitive function

Anorexia or loss of appetite

Nausea and vomiting

Seizures

Muscular:

Weakness

Muscle spasms (tetany)

Tics

Muscle cramps

Hyperactive reflexes

Impaired muscle coordination (ataxia)

Tremors

Involuntary eye movements and vertigo

Difficulty swallowing

Metabolic:

Increased intracellular calcium

Hyperglycemia

Calcium deficiency

Potassium deficiency

Cardiovascular:

Irregular or rapid heartbeat

Coronary spasms

Among children:

Growth retardation or “failure to thrive”

CONDITIONS RELATED TO PROBLEMS OF MAGNESIUM

In addition to symptoms of overt hypomagnesemia (clinically low serum magnesium), the following conditions represent possible indicators of chronic latent magnesium deficiency:

Depression

Chronic fatigue syndrome

ADHD

Epilepsy

Parkinson’s disease

Sleep problems

Migraine

Cluster headaches

Osteoporosis

Premenstrual syndrome

Chest pain (angina)

Cardiac arrhythmias

Coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis

Hypertension

Type II diabetes

Asthma

TJ 2 years ago

Ah too bad, why not? It is so easy and cheap. I still feel like you should give it a try. It is of course probably not a complete solution; I don't think one thing can be the solution to your myriad of symptoms, so you should try multiple things and see what the effects are for you, what works for you. Probably it will be a combination of approaches. For me, and many others, magnesium oil definitely has an effect though. I can feel my symptoms getting worse when I don't use the oil, in less than a week. Here is a video on magnesium oil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9We_bcrEsY.

Other approaches my attention have been drawn to lately:

- Of course eating healthy (cut out bread, pasta, popatoes, flavour enhancers, refined sugar, dairy, ...; eat more fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, fish, ...).

- TRE (Trauma Release Exercises). This one is very interesting, and probably very unknown. See this video as a starting point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WysHRgQFIlo. The guy is not faking it, I experienced it as well. Super awesome, definitely look into this... For authors, see Peter Levine or David Berceli.

- Meditation, using Brainwave Entrainment sounds.

You should probably not fixate too much on your pineal gland calcification, always focus on holistic approaches. Your mind-body-soul is very smart and complex.

Have you signed up for Obamacare yet? If not, another option that may offer free/cheap healthcare is to participate in clinical trials. You may get lucky and find something involving MRIs or other scans. Try www.clinicaltrials.gov or www.centerwatch.com to start. Sometimes, you can get compensation for your time and travel as well. Good luck to you Definitely something to the magnesium. My ears are affected in my prodromes of seizures and all I do is take some magnesium and the symptoms clear up within minutes. My pineal gland cyst is not too large at 11mm or so and I suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity as well. To check on EMFs, you can input an address at www.antennasearch.com and really get the info on towers and antennas, even new ones that are impending. Also, many of your symptoms sound like a poisoning, like to pesticides, or a toxic buildup of some sort... were you ever a smoker? Smokers seem to have a high incidence of M.S. and related disorders. Best of luck and health to you!

Ive been actively working on decalcifing my pineal gland by eating healthy, meditation, and other ddaily practices. Ive received all of my information from all types of sources. I applied that melting pot of knowledge, and have received profound effects. For example during meditation exercises, or states of relaxion a specific point in the middle of my forhead begins to pulse this same pulse matches any sound I hear and is quite re,arkable

My dentist just told me that a full xray showed I have pineal calcification. In doing research and speaking with my mom (yeah, I know :) ) but consider Reiki..healing energy. My mom is a Reiki Master and will be teaching me to complete this training and feel it can clear some of the calcification. Just a thought!

I just read a book while on vacation called the Melatonin Miracle that might help with your symptoms. According to this book your pineal gland calcifies with age which inhibits melatonin production. Melatonin production is essential to the other glands in our body or so says the author of this book. I really enjoyed reading it and I just started taking melatonin at bedtime hoping it will help with my fibromyalgia symptoms. Good luck.

Well, for the last several months I have been taking Magnesium, Vitamin D, B Complex, and CO Q10. The calcification is still there according o the last MRI (Done in August 2014), however there is another issue apparent now. I have an Arachnoid Cyst in the posterior area (where the spinal cord connects with the brain). Many of my symptoms are gone or very diminished, although the arthritis still is a major issue. I have moved from California to Louisiana, which is a much cleaner environment, with much greater humidity. How this has affected these issues remains to be seen. I am however blessed by God with a new life, new love, and a real job, which all have helped remove the depression and am living a much happier life.

You didn't mention the melatonin which a healthy pineal gland produces as the eye signals the brain that darkness is approaching (the reason for sleeping in as dark a room as possible, i.e. no midnight TV.) And melatonin is the body's leading antioxidant. To quote from the flyleaf of the major book on melatonin*: "[Melatonin] has the remarkable potential to incease immune response dramatically, greatly improve existing treatment for cancer and AIDS, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, put you to sleeo as effectively as prescription drugs---without side effects, improve mood and reduce symptoms of PMS, prevent the free radical damage that underlies aging, neutralize the dangerous side effects of mammograms, X-rays, and surgery, and much more."

*Your Body's Natural Wonder Drug Melatonin" by Dr. Ruseel J. Reiter, Ph. D.

Hi Mark,

Glad to hear that since you move your life has improved. New chapters often inspire refreshing changes.

I recently heard about zeolite and how it is effective in helping not only remove toxins/heavy metals from the body & brain but also decalcifies the pineal gland. This is the link I came across: www.pureliquidzeolite.com/

How have you been?

Jeff 13 months ago

Hi Mark,

I wish I had seen this post years ago.

I read your story and thought I was reading about myself. I am a building controls engineer. I was perfectly healthy and then came down with a list of symptoms almost the same as you. I ended up not being able to work and also not finding answers to my illness. Luckily I met a doctor that recommended a heavy metals test (A challenge type test using a chelator, DMSA). The results showed an extremely high level of mercury. I started treating myself for mercury poisoning and within six months I was able to return to work. My best guess as to what happened was an electrical contractor relamped a commercial building and stored the old bulbs in the electric room. We came in next for the HVAC controls and I used that room for staging, storing parts, my tools and even my lunch box in their. I think they had broken some bulbs, which contain mercury, and over the 6-8 months I worked there, I was continuously exposing myself to mercury and having the levels build up until my body could not handle the level of mercury (Your body stores it mainly in fat, which is why it causes so many nervous system problems, since your brain and nerves contain a lot of fat).

I think you are probably improving slowly as your body slowly gets rid of the heavy metals, but you may have a lot still in your system. It is very difficult to remove. If you do get tested, be careful of the challenge test, as the chelator can overwhelm your liver and the mercury migrates to your brain, actually making you sicker. You can probably take a small amount of a chelator and if you start feeling numbness and other symptoms return you probably have mercury poisoning.

I have met a handful of people with the same problem, but most got sick from eating a lot of tuna (they had a fishing boat, or their spouse.)

I am not saying this is the cause of your problems, but your story really sounds like what happened to me. Do not expect an Alleopathic (Western) doctor to help or diagnose you. They will run a blood test for mercury which will come back low. The blood test only works on an acute poisoning.

Awesome information Jeff, I still have some symptoms, numbness occasionally but I have been working full time over a year now and am stronger than I was. I was also diagnosed with an Arachnoid cysts in my brain about a year and a half ago. I have not been to a doctor since then, so hoping that is not an issue that becomes major.

Blessings, Mark

Dear Curiad,

You may consider contacting your nearest Pranic healing centre for free healings.

Also I have heard that one teaspoon of pure coconut oil ingested everyday can pull out toxins from brain. Coconut oil has been used in cooking for centuries in many cultures. You may consider this as it is very inexpensive. You may also google 'drunvalo melchezedek pineal gland' to understand more about it.

Hello,

Please bear with me as I write this (I'm writing from my phone Lol)

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. While reading your article it felt like I was reading a page from my own diary. These have been my exact symptoms for the past year. I went months undiagnosed and had numerous tests, exams and scans until I was finally diagnosed with a pineal gland cyst. (It was overlooked during my initial CT scan and was recently found at my last MRI)

My neurologist only wants to monitor it every six months to make sure it doesn't get any larger. (I read that in a few documented cases these things can shrink/disappear on their own.) I'm hopeful I will be among that small percent.

I was researching natural ways to heal something like this when I stumbled upon your post and I'm very glad I did. Sadly there is very limited research and info out there about these things and even less research of treading naturally.. Speaking of natural - I noticed fresh garlic helps with me and saw a huge difference in my double vision after a couple days of taking it.

If you want to read my story, about some of my symptoms and how I found out about my brain cyst it's all here on my personal blog at: http://www.lauracobb.com/blog/2016/1/pineal-cyst-s...

Feel welcome to message me if you want to bounce thoughts and/or ideas around.

Sending well wishes your way - best of luck to you!!
