Depression - 10 Reasons why you can’t give up on Life

This is a Hub I write from my heart. I thought of sharing personal stories but didn’t want them to over shadow the message of the Hub. These days depression is on the increase but the interesting thing is, many cover it up with smiles and go through it all alone until one day they just totally give up……. Then people say “We never knew he/she was going through a hard time, they seemed so nice, normal and cheerful….”

ツ★

10 Reason’s not to throw in the Towel.

.

1. You are still breathing – you are alive. Where there is life there is hope.

2. There are people who love you. Family, friends, colleagues. You have people who need you and cherish you. If you have kids, you have beautiful children to raise and be proud of - watch them through graduation and more.

3. Your best years are ahead. You have so much to live for. I’m sure you are not 90 – 100 years old yet.

4. You can do it again – Every one has been through a time in their life, when they thought their world would crumble, but somehow help came, they got through it. Cast your mind back to such a time in your life. Remember the elation you felt. If it happened then, it can happen again. You can be happy.

5. Pain is not permanent. Emotional pain/Physical pain. I always think to myself, sometimes it rains, sometimes its grey and cloudy, but at some point, (though it might be days) – the sun eventually comes out.

.

6.Your Trial could be a blessing in disguise. “Imagine yourself as house. God comes in to rebuild that house. First, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof etc; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently, He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and doesn't seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to?

The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a nice little cottage: but He is building a Palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

―C.S. Lewis.

7. There are people who need you. (this time not your family) Everyone has a part to play in making the world a better place, but it’s a choice. People cross our paths for different reasons. Maybe there are people whose lives will be changed positively with your help through your job, your life, your experience, your knowledge etc. If you give up, they lose out.

8. You are not alone - though you may feel so. For Christians, of course you know God is ever present. He said he will be with you when you go through tough times. So tough times do come. For those who are not Christians, even the universe responds to us. It responds to the energy we give out. If we send out positive vibes, it will attract positive situations to us.

9. We are only here once. So let’s enjoy the Journey of life. You can overcome.

10. There are people going through worse challenges and they get through it. (no dis-respect to whatever you are going through right now).

Please feel free to add more in comments and I will include it in the Hub with your name below – it will help someone. Thanks. .·*♡

The PEACE of GOD surpasses the understanding of man. We will never know why for many things and situations. But GOD can still impart His Peace to us even in admidst adversity, sorrow and pain... This is brilliant LadyE. This is the hub that anyone who doubts the abiltily to live happily should read. We all have our 'ups and downs', but I really do think that everything does happen for a reason. We need to try to live in joy and fulfillment. Thanks for sharing another of your great hubs. Voting up and pressing those appropriate buttons too.

What a wonderfully uplifting hub and the photos and sayings were awesome.

I'm sure this hub will raise the spirits of many who read it and may be just the thing they need to remind them that though they may be facing hard times today, the future can still have good times waiting.

Voted up across the board except for funny.

Some say that when you find some serenity, the world still happens, and you may not get through all trials all serene and happy, but by golly you will get through them.

Very beautiful writing.

What a great and inspiring post. The past two months have been straight up hell for me on a personal level. However, I never faltered. I always believed that there is something better out there. I'm being patient as ever, but making sure that it doesn't take over me. I think God has blessed me with being able to really express myself. Whether it's writing, dancing, or just finding positive ways to deal with intense/stressful situations, I've always had some kind of outlet. It hurts but I realize things could be worse, and there are people out there dealing with much worse yet still have a second to smile. In essence, who am I to really complain in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes, you just got to learn to live life one minute at a time. Thanks for this post. Greatly appreciated.

Very inspiring, but if someone is in a very deep depression that inspiration will not even begin to be noticed. I am not having a go, I am just saying from experience that deep depression can not be lifted by anything and will only dissipate over time. Close friends and pets are of use in these times, and only on the way out of the darkest days will inspiration be required. Great hub for those on the lighter road.

Thank you for this incredible uplifting article. I've read many stories and have written about so many people out there who have gone through terrible ordeals, yet they always managed to find a way out of their problems or at least have someone give them a helping hand. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to look for it.

On a final note, number 7 in particular reminds me a lot of something I once shared with my friends on my Facebook profile:

"Just because you're not important to everyone you meet doesn't mean you're not important at all. No matter who you are, you really do matter to someone out there. "

You have written truly inspiring article. This article must be a featured article. Voted up. Every individual who experiences depression must read this, often we as individuals undervalue ourselves just because people around us think so, we never try to befriend our self and this never allows us to realize true potential.

I am moved and nearly consumed with the wonderful responses. A shrink friend once told me that if you took a poll of some sort, writers would be the most sympathetic to depression. I always thought he meant the condition, not the fact of having suffered through it. I do not know what came first, the writer or the depression -- does it matter?

But I do know that suffering through it, alone leads to bad stuff, suffereing through it with others, leads to interesting stuff.

You and your ideas are worthy of watching. I do not think this hub has received it's due.

What is everyone, if not recovering from depression? Nobody wants to deal with it. Tough guy syndrome of martyr syndrome is easier to cop to. I admit it and share it, and I am in control of it. Those that do not are being controlled by it -- like 70% of folks.

So True James, but sadly - some don't have people around to listen to or they isolate themselves until they do what they shouldn't. Last month, my Dad told me a friends son committed suicide in UK. I was upset and told my dad that if I had known him, I would have been in touch to say "hello" once in a while.

So sad to hear that.He chose the easiest and quickest way to end up his life.Sorry to say that ,I don t mean any offence but if you look at it from my angle ,you will see it as way of cowardice .We are here to survive, fight till the end..God couldn't give us what we couldn't bear. It is true life is hard but we are harder if we give chance to our spiritual makeup to fight and hurdle the hiccups.

Ericdierker profile image

Ericdierker 3 years ago from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A.

James comment gave me notice again of this very good hub. I reread my comment and it gave me pause. Reading it I felt as though I were judging those who cannot control their depression. That was not my intent. I was only trying to point out that it takes affirmative positive action to get better. Personally I could/can understand someone who cannot do that. If there is a click or a tick in that fragile mind suicide may occur. But I do not think it is a cowardice, just a result of a sickness.

Lady_E profile image

Lady_E 3 years ago from London, UK Author

@James - Some people don't have the emotional stamina or people around them to motivate them. Another example is a very famous fashion designer. He was close to his mum and she died. He was alone and just committed suicide. (sometimes, we do what is going on in our thoughts). I believe with all my heart that if someone was around him, he would have found the strength to carry on. He was very rich, but emotionally very weak.

It's a story that I won't forget, I went to find the link for you: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2850863/...

Looking at your post again, many don't have that spiritual strength to draw from. I know I would never have coped with Life if I didn't.

Anyway, Catch you later......:-)

James-wolve profile image

James-wolve 3 years ago from Morocco

Thanks for the link.I read it.He was really very successful and on the way to the top.If not saying, he was already there. You re right,if there was someone standing by and clinging to him day and night till he got over it,he wouldn't have maybe committed suicide. Sigh

Wonderful hub

Life in itself is tough and trying to get through it unscathed is harder for some than others.

But whenever we feel down it's good to know that come what may, there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel because tough times never last.

Every situation; every challenge comes from God and its always for a reason. Once we believe that, it's easier to take the knocks and expect that better days will come again.
