Does Aloe Vera Help Acne?

Those who have been afflicted by acne ask the question, does aloe vera help acne problems? The answer is yes, my friend. Both of my parents had acne problems when they were my age. For me to have acne issues as a young adult is quite normal. The generational treatment for such a condition has always been the use of aloe vera.

Why does aloe vera help acne?

· Aloe vera soothes the skin naturally.

· The oily nature of the plant is similar to natural skin oils such as sebum.

· The plant alleviates itchiness and soreness associated with acne.

· It helps to tone the color of the skin and removes acne scars in the long run

· Helps to tighten pores, therefore decreasing the pores exposure to germs

· The aloe vera contains anti-bacterial properties

· One of the medicinal uses of the aloe vera gel is to tighten the skin and slow aging

· It also reinforces the collagen integrity of the skin, which helps the skin to heal faster

· Helps to regulate the correct PH balance of the skin

· Provides the necessary minerals and vitamins that is needed to help heal the skin

· Another medicinal use of aloe vera is to eliminate free radicals from the skin

· Rinsing the aloe vera gel off the face, helps to remove sticky particles that gets trapped by the aloe vera gel

Source

Elements of the Aloe Vera that Helps Acne

These are the nutrients immediately available once the aloe vera sap is applied directly to the skin:

· Contains Polysaccharides that kills bacteria and germs responsible for acne

· It also contains Mannans which is a mild antibiotic which also kills germs.

· Consists of a vital nutrient, Anthraquinones which facilitates the rejuvenation of vital nutrients in the skin

  • Contains lectin, which is responsible for proper cell growth and repair.

Topical Application of Aloe Vera

Go directly to the plant, cut a piece large enough to hold in your hand. Trim the jagged edges. Then slice it through the middle like you’re making a sandwich. Then rub the exposed aloe vera gel all over your face, body or the affected area.

This application can be done in the morning, before taking a cold shower for maximum effect. It is best to use cold water to remove aloe vera from the face or body.

It is best to clense the face or body with hot water before applying the aloe vera gel to the skin. Then after applying the aloe vera gel, wait several to 15 minutes then wash with cold water to remove it.

Remember, the hot water removes the stale natural oil (sebum) from the face and then use the aloe vera gel to replenishe it. The cold water prevents the complete removal of the fresh layer of aloe vera just applied to the skin.

It is not recommended to wear the gel continuously throughout the day, especially if it’s humid or hot. The aloe vera gel can be left on during the nights though.

Source

Internal Application of Aloe Vera

Yes, you do have to digest some of the raw aloe vera in order to help alleviate acne problems. The aloe vera makes vitamin C and E more bioavailable in the blood. One of the medicinal uses of aloe vera is to remove free radicals from the skin and other organs. Most free radicals in the body start from the skin, due to the radiation effect of the sun. Therefore the use of aloe vera is important for overall skin and body rejuvenation.

The best way to have it is to cut a small piece of the plant (pill size) and peel all the skin off, and then swallow it. Another option would be to blend that small piece when making a smoothie to kill the bitter taste.

I would suggest that those who are not experienced with the aloe vera plant buy organic aloe vera juice sweetened with honey or cane juice.

Overveiw

It is best to use aloe vera plants that are over four years old for optimum results for topical applications. Experimenting with different application methods is encouraged until an ideal method is found. The medicinal use of aloe vera does not cure acne. It only helps the skin to repair itself and removes the bacterium that is responsible for outbreaks. Other factors that cause acne have to be taken into consideration such as age, lifestyle, genetics, pharmaceuticals and environment.

Are you still wondering does aloe vera help acne?

Rasta, I swore I left a comment because I remember thinking that Aloe Vera was also good for burns such as sunburn, hot oil burns, hot water burns and any other type of burn. Also good for insect bites, any kind of abssess (which acne is related to).

Your article is right on the money. For people with acne it's best to use natural cure like aloe vera because it reduces the risk of chemical reaction from manufactured stuff. It would be also good if the person with the acne can drink the aloe vera, as most of our skin problems come from within.

Hey rasta1,I should have asked you the other day,you know I had microscopic surgery on my knee and rather than being better it's worst. While in Jamaica an older rasta that has seen my fam and I in Jamaica for years asked why I was limping and he told me to put the plant sliced open and heated on my knee and wrap it with an ace bandage.

What do you thing? Any other info for me?

Respect

rasta1 profile image

rasta1 4 years ago from Jamaica Author

Hi Rastamermaid. That is an old practice. I have seen it work for several people. Aloe is mostly used for back pains or more serious muscle or bone injuries. There are a lot of medicinal uses of aloe vera that I have not mentioned.

I also have knee problems (soccer). I have always refused surgery. I have noticed that omega 3 fatty acids in the diet help a lot. For example fatty acids in fish or hemp milk is great. Your knee is still sore, be easy on it.

I have struggled with acne for eight years now, and have tried every remedy under the sun! Unfortunately for me, aloe vera didn't work. This could be due to the fact that I used aloe vera gel that was sold at my local drug store (I did make sure it was pure aloe gel) rather than using an actual aloe plant to treat my acne. I wonder if that would be more effective...

rasta1 profile image

rasta1 4 years ago from Jamaica Author

Unfortunately aloe is not a cure. It will only help to a certain degree. It will help to reduce the amount of acne and help to remove scars. You could give the actual plant a try. Sometimes, acne is caused by hormone irregularities which is triggered by diet.

I recently got poison ivy on my face. It quickly spread to other parts of my body. I knew aloe was good for sunburn then read on here about poison ivy and acne. Being a teen i have both. So i went to my moms plant cut of a stem shaved the gel and liquid into a small ceramic bowl. I mixed in a small amount of water got a paintbrush(clean one) and painted it on my acne and ivy. Ill post later if it works.

john 4 years ago

Been three days since i made my aloe mixed with water. Acne is slowly going away and pigment is normal instead of red. Poison ivy is leaving slowly too. I store it in the fridge so it's cool and soothing

My dad grows aloe in the back yard, and we used it all the time for sunburn after coming home from camping trips when I was a kid. I don't know why I never bothered to grow some in my own back yard. I'll have to talk to my wife about it (she's in charge of the garden hahaha).

Great read. I have struggled with acne for about a year and a half now and it has gone from terrible to barely noticeable to very mild. This week it has gotten much worse and I was seeking a solution when I found this article. I will let you know within the next week our two if it works, but I have a quick question...

I have been told by doctors that my acne stems from what I am eating. I have no aloe plants handy, but I do have a bottle of 100% Aloe Vera Gel from Fruit of The Earth. It doesn't say on the bottle anywhere not to consume it, but do you know if it could do any harm? I am willing to do anything to stop my acne!

Thanks for any help in advance!

I used to have an aloe plant and I used it once in a while, as you explained, whenever I cut myself. I work with my hands a lot around the house and sometimes get injured on something or other. Aloe is really useful for that, it's a great antiseptic. I also use 100% aloe vera in the summertime when I get too much sun. It helps the skin rejuvenate from a sunburn. This was a very useful hub, and I voted up.

Very interesting hub rasta1. Aloe vera can be used to treat numerous skin problems.
