How you feel inside your own home and haven is determined by its physical elements - the colour scheme, the furniture placement, pictures, plants and lighting. These factors are the more obvious and play a major part in our wellbeing and state of mind. What about the less obvious.
We are living in a world where we have a permanent exchange with our environment on the level of matter and the level of energy. It’s unavoidable; we cannot create an existence that is not influenced by our environment and that includes our own homes. Whilst we don’t always have a say in what pollutants we are subject to, we can take steps to minimize their adverse effects on our own personal space.
The topic of Earth Lines was covered extensively in my hub Earth Lines and the Hartmann Grid. As Earth Lines are known to be energetic garbage cans, it’s important to learn where they are in your home and ensure you have not placed your favourite chair, desk or your bed on one. Any place you spend long periods of time needs to be supportive of your health and not depleting it.
Additionally if you are a meditator it is very important the space you do your practices is free of earth lines or energetic toxins. Wherever you open yourself, wherever you let go and relax needs to be clean and unhindered by toxic debris. Interestingly the more meditation practices you do, the more sensitive you become. True there is a strength of energy that is forged by meditation, but paradoxically it’s because of this you chose not to sit on a garbage can when going into blissful and altered states of consciousness. Placing the “light of protection’ around you is perhaps not the right solution! Instead make sure your space is clean. The states you reach in meditation, or not reach, can be determined by the space you meditate in.
Dowsing – the equipment
No need to go out and buy expensive gear for this. You need two L-shaped rods and two ball-point pens. The rods are made of thick wire and wire coat-hangers will do the trick. Grab a pair of wire cutters/pliers and but each hanger into an L-shape. The longer side of the L is approximately 40 centimetres (400 millimetres) or 15 inches. The shorter side is about 12 centimetres (120 millimetres), or 4.5 inches. A few millimetres either way won’t make any difference. In case you don’t have coat-hangers, the wire you use needs to be rigid enough to keep its L-shape.
Then grab two cheap ball-point pends. Remove the ink parts and keep the plastic shell. Insert the shorter parts of your L-shaped rods inside the shells. This is all you need to dowse.
The rods must be able to rotate freely inside the shells. For this to happen, make sure the rods are sharply bent at a 90 degree angle between the two parts of the rods and not a progressive curve. And ensure each side of the L is as straight as possible. If the shorter side of the rod is bent, even slightly, then unwanted friction will hamper the free movement of the rod.
Dowsing needs attitude!
You need to be able to focus when doing this technique so no distractions. You also need a strong awareness of the navel area. To do this imagine you are a martial arts student, grounded and strong in the belly. Go for the John Wayne Cowboy stance! Practice walking around with your focus in the belly until you become comfortable with it. It’s from this grounded belly awareness that dowsing works. This strong awareness in the belly can also heighten sensations you may feel when dowsing lines. You could feel the lines tangibly if you are receptive enough. A vibration or tingling is a common sensation. Don’t worry if you can’t feel, the rods will do the work in conjunction with the belly.
For those who make use of their Third Eye, the focus is on both the Third Eye and the belly. This will create a heightened awareness during dowsing and the sensations are likely to be very tangible.
Lets do it – the technique
Hold one rod in each hand, at about the same height as your navel. Think of John Wayne and the guns. Remember be in your belly so get out of your airy fairy thinking. Focus and be grounded.
Be careful not to block the top of the rods with your thumbs, keep them free. And keep your hands as steady as you can.
Have some tape handy to mark the lines as you find them. Start at one section of the room and move forward. When you cross a line the rods swing and position themselves parallel to the line, you just have to look at the direction pointed to by the rods. It doesn’t make any difference whether the rods rotate to the right or left, or one to each side.
When you cross a line, just before the rods turn you may feel a ‘physical’ sensation in the belly. The feeling may be uncomfortable, it is a toxic line afterall. For those that can sense these feelings, keep tuning in. If one line is more uncomfortable than another, it’s most likely a sense of the level of toxicity.
Once you get a rough idea of the general orientation of the grid, it’s preferable to walk in a direction perpendicular to the lines. Use the tape for marking to make it easier. Once you have all the parallel lines of one group, start walking perpendicular to them to find the second part of the grid.
It is possible that you find lines that are not in keeping with the grid. You may have come across power cables or an underground creek. Generally speaking, depending on your level of sensitivity, electric cables usually make moderate lines. Underground water creates the type of lines that make you sick when you tune into them. Water pipes are somewhere in between the two, depending on the volume of water flowing through.
Also, if your rods start swinging as soon as you start, you may actually be standing on an earth line to begin with.
Don’t overdo it
Understand you are playing around with earth lines. Unless you are trained and adept at the craft, it’s advisable not to do too much dowsing all at once. By putting your attention on these lines you’re level of interaction is heightened and so too is the likelihood of being drained by them. It’s tiring work.
If you are low in energy, depressed, or pregnant it’s not advisable to do dowsing. It’s also not a sport for growing children.
After dowsing make sure you wash your hands. Maybe take a shower if you feel particularly effected by the lines. Remember you’ve been playing in a ‘garbage can.’
Your piece of paradise
Pollution comes in many forms, from the rotting compost of your leftovers, to excess noises from traffic and factories, pungent smells, and the barrage of the invisible electro magnetic radiation wafting in the airwaves.
Maintenance of our own personal space is a precious need and not something to be complacent about. Maybe dowsing earth lines is a way to ensure your space is at it’s very best to support you.
