Dr Stanley Bass's secrets of health without drugs

Dr Stanley Bass is an expert on healthy eating

Dr Stanley Bass is 92 and looking really good for his age as you can see in his videos. He is a man well worth listening to because he speaks from experience as well as having a wealth of knowledge he has otherwise gained.

Dr Bass eats and recommends raw foods and is happy to tell us what he eats so we can follow in his healthy footsteps. He is a real pioneer when it comes to health and has had a lifetime of trying all sorts of diets and fasting too in an effort to discover what is optimum for his wellbeing.

Healthy diet according to Dr Bass

Dr Stanley Bass believes that a healthy regular diet is the key to our health and says he has seen many examples where people have been cured of serious illnesses just by changing their diets. He is an advocate of drug-free healing and is involved in providing health education.

Since the 1950s he has researched and experimented on himself with dieting and fasting and has carried out over 1,000 fasts at various points in his life. One of the first was a water only fast when he was just 19. This shows how long he has been interested in health and learning about the needs of the body.

Although he has been a vegetarian and a vegan, Dr Bass thinks that vegan diets can cause problems after a time. He is a raw food enthusiast but includes raw egg yolk and raw chicken liver in his diet.

Dr Bass only eats one and a half meals a day. He has one small one in the early evening and then a larger meal a bit later in which he eats salad, raw egg yolk and chicken liver. That is a typical meal for him.

However, although he eats in the evening he allows several hours to go by before going to bed because he believes that it is best not to sleep on a full stomach. He says that if you go to sleep after eating it doesn't give the body time to recuperate properly and instead it has to work on digesting the food. This can lead to low energy levels when you wake up which is not how it should be.

Dr Bass also believes in sequential eating - in other words eating one type of food before eating another.

In his researches he looked at the diets and eating habits of primitive people and tribal people today. He noted that although Eskimos, for example, could live on a more or less mono-diet of just fish or just seal products for months on end, they were perfectly healthy. He concluded that they could get everything they needed from their food.

Dr Bass has pointed out that these people only started getting ill after they began eating the white man's foods. It is a sad comment on our civilization that although we have a wide variety of foods there is so much sickness in modern society, while tribal people eating a very basic diet can remain in good health as long as they do not copy our eating habits.

Dr Bass thinks it is a good idea to eat foods that are produced locally, and points out that tribal people do this. They do not eat food that has been transported from one side of the world to another.

Dr Bass is an amazing 91 year old raw foodist!

In the Philippines we normally eat five times a day. Three full meals and two snacks, sometimes three. I have since adopted a one meal, perhaps two meal a day routine.

Great hub and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for posting! I myself eat three meals and snacks too but I don't know if doing so will shorten my life span. Dr Bass doesn't and he is as you can see a very fit 91-year-old.

I printed t-shirts for some folks about 20 years ago and all the shirt said was "Food is Terrorism". I loved that quote and with the way agri-business is these days all the folks that laughed then are not now. My dad lived to be 91 and ate TV (frozen)dinners every day for the last 17 years, so I don't think anybody has the answers on what's the best way. Good hub though, Peace!! Tom

I love Dr. Bass and he had a health and wellness center in Upstate NY and has been healing and helping people for many years. He has a unique approach and he does have some answers though his answer are not very popular in the medical community. Dr. Bass has real answers. He has answers not because he is 92 and very healthy, but because of his mind and what he knows. When someone says that they don't think that anyone has answers that is not true in my opinion. This man has been healing people of diseases for many years but this is not advertised on mainstream t.v.

Ayup. We snack mostly and have our last meal no later than 4:00 PM.

Fruits, nuts, veggies and a very little chicken and fish. Keeps our grocery bills and our waistlines trim.

Cool hub Mr Bard, we need more ultimately sensible people like Dr Bass in this world, methinks; and yourself of course, for spreading it about. Nice one!

I am learning about fasting right now. This is new to me, even though I have fasted before. It is an ancient practice. Orthopathy is a new term that I have learned from Dr.Bass's site. He speaks about sequencial eating. This is also a fairly new concept and something that I know little about. He offers tons of free information extensive information. I just listened to his radio show. He was speaking about how our cells can grow younger through fasting. Also, his ideas about fruit are not popular in the raw food world.

I am not sure if this link will work here, but this is an amazing article on the late Dr. Weston Price. Dr. Bass mentions him in these videos. He was also a brilliant mind for his time. We can learn many things from Dr. Weston Price. Everyone has been speaking to me about him lately, so I decided to read up on him. These are real health gurus.

Of course the medical community doesn't like Dr. Bass. If everyone copied his or a similar lifestyle, Big Pharma and most doctors would be out of business. Thanks for introducing Dr. Bass to those of us who hadn't heard of him.

I wanted to add one more thing as I do have a lot of work to do today.

Dr. Bass and Dr.Weston Price and other health gurus known and unknown stress the importance of UNpasturized dairy. There is a big difference between grass-fed unpasturized dairy and pasturized dairy. Unpasturized dairy has more omega 3 fatty acids and beta and gamma interferon which build the immune system. Pasturized dairy is similar to eating white rice. Stripped of all the nutrients. Dr.Bass is a progressive mind. I do agree with him about NATURE being able to heal. It is something that I we know intuitively. Nature has the ability to heal if we know what the body needs. Thanks Bard for posting this great article!

Bard of Ely profile image

Bard of Ely 5 years ago from Lisbon, Portugal Author

Thank you for that info, anonball! Yes, I have heard that pasturised dairy is not good. So much of the food and drink that is readily available is not good for us and people wonder why so may people are ill. It is mainly due to what we eat and drink I think!

I just finished a 3 day fast yesterday! what a neat coincidence in posting your hub on food! Thanks for the info. It seems most people simply are not mindful of what they're doing when eating. But on the flip side, I know a lot of people who are just the opposite and take all the fun out of what they eat and are tooooo concerned about "blood types" etc. sometimes it's fun to eat.

Personally I enjoy food too much so would agree with you! Much respect on doing a fast too - that is something I have never done. Thanks for posting!

I have noticed that Dr.Bass eats free range organic (RAW) chicken livers. This is very very high in Vitamin A. Also raw organic egg yolk is very high in biotin, choline etc...I really believe in organ meat. I have mine cooked medium rare and try to get it free range whenever I can. This article on the internet speaks about how our primitive ancestors ingested 50000 IUs of Vitamin A a day. Well some of them did. Dr. Weston Price believes that most people are deficient in Vitamin A and plant food which contain Vitamin A in the form of Beta-carotene does not supply nearly as much as cod liver oil or organ meats. Here is the article. Enjoy your day!

Thank you Steve, raw food eating is extremely important. I thought that you were going to put his Energy Karezza style of sex, which is also a contributing factor to his health & well being.

Hi Rasa! Thanks for posting! I know about his recommendations for Karezza but here I was concentrating on talking about raw food because I was doing a series on raw foodists at the time I wrote this.
