Sari spent 10 years searching for a doctor who could shed light on her miserable menstrual pain. "The pain was unbearable," says Sari, who finally found a doctor who diagnosed her with endometriosis at the of 35.

Experts share that In some cases, normal endometrial tissue backs up through the fallopian tubes, breaking through the fringes into the abdominal cavity, implants and grows outside the uterus. According to the obstetrics director of the University's Center for Women's Health in Albuquerque, It can attach to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder or even the rectum. Like signals from ovarian hormones. When the ovaries signal the endometrial tissue to begin it's cycle grwoth, this stray tissue becomes engorged with blood.

The pain that endometriosis can cause:

  1. Severe Menstrual discomfort.
  2. Severe pain during sex.
  3. severe pain while trying to use the bathroom.

Overcoming the Pain of Endometriosis.


Your doctor may recommend the following treatment options:

  1. Antiprostaglandin and anti-inflammatory medications over-the-counter Advil or extra-strength prescription such as Motrin-for pain relief.
  2. Long term treatment- hormone therapy/ birth control/ this form of treatment keeps endometriosis under control for many women by regulating the menstrual cycle.
  3. Conventional Surgery- Which involves opening the abdominal cavity and cutting tissue out with a scalpel or cauterizing it or laparoscopy which is performed with an instrument known as a laparoscope the procedure is performed with a laser or electrical cateruzatuion which is performed through tiny incisions in the abdomen.

According to the Women's Reproductive Health: Hysterectomy Fact Sheet issued by the CDC that each year 600,000 American women have a hysterectomy.

A hysterectomy is a major surgical procedure which removes the uterus. After this process women are unable to bear children.

Nearly half of all hysterectomies performed also include the removal of the ovaries. According to some doctors the removal of a woman's ovaries is similar to removing a man's testicles. The ovaries are a essential sex hormone-producing organ in the body. Once the ovaries are removed it causes intense menopause,

Reasons Why Some Women Have A Hysterectomy:

  1. Alomst 20% are performed to alleviate endometriosis. A condition which clumps of the uterine lining grow outside the uterus. (30% Fibroids) tumors composed mostly of muscle tissue.
  2. Prolapsed uterus and cancer 16%. occurs when pelvic floor muscles and ligaments stretch and weaken, providing inadequate support for the uterus.
  3. Statics show that 75% percent of hysterectomies are done for non-life-threatening conditions.

According to the National Women's Health Network,The United States has the highest rate of hysterectomy in the industrialized world.

Fibroids

Fibroids are composed mostly of muscle tissue; ranging in size from a pea to a cantaloupe or even larger in some cases. They can be found on the outside of uterus, or embedded in the uterine walls or attached by stalks called (pedunculated fibroids). as shown in the above diagram. 20% of women over 35 get them. African American women are three times more likely to get them. Some doctors believe that stress and unhealthy lifestyle could be a major factor.

Here are some steps you might want to consider before taking major steps such as surgery or hormone pills.

  1. Exercises: Pilates is a nice relaxing form of exercise. Other forms of exercise which promote relaxation similar to Pilates should be examined.
  2. Change your eating habits: Add healthier food choices to your menu such as fish and salad, and soy beans.
  3. Avoid heavy alcohol intake.
  4. Stay away from birth control pills. Increased estrogen promotes fibroid tumor growth.
  5. Try To Live A stress Free Life. If at all possible avoid stress.
