An apple a day, keeps the doctor away. And it does!
The health benefits of apples are not simply based on old wives tales. Recent studies and researches prove that apples truly are nutritious fruits. They are bursting with phyto-nutrients that other fruits just don’t have. Adding apples in our diets will indeed make our cells stronger; and our body, fitter.
The health benefits of apples come from their abundant supply of phyto-chemicals like polyphenols and phenols. These phyto-nutrients supplement our body like multi-vitamins do. They make us stronger; and help us fight away common sickness such as colds and flu.

We get a lot of heart benefits from apples coming from its rich source of polyphenol content called the quercetin. Apples are good for people with high triglyceride levels. They also help lower the risk of having cardiovascular ailments.
Quercetin helps regular our blood sugar levels. Also, apples provide water-soluble fiber to the body. This helps regulate our blood fats. While apples don’t carry much fiber in itself, the numerous phyto-chemicals in it enable the fiber in apples to be as potent or even more than other fruits or vegetables with rich fiber source.
Phloridzin another phyto-nutrient present in apples. They promote bone health. It increases the density of our bones. The benefits of apples as we age are vital to avoid osteoporosis.
Its phyto-nutrients as well as its Vitamin C content provide apples with very powerful anti-oxidant properties. They are also anti-carcinogenic which helps fight cancer-causing cells or elements. Apples promote our respiratory health as well due to its naringin and quercetin.

Getting the most benefit from apples
The problem I have with the apples (and fruits, in general) is the pesticides and chemicals being used to grow them.
While I love having that crunchy apple bite, I usually settle on having their skins removed, especially if I hadn’t bought apples from an organic market.
The polyphenols in apples, are however abundant in their skin. We get the most benefits from apples if we eat them as they are, skin and all.
The remedy for this is to buy organic apples. They may be a bit costly than the commercially grown ones, but at least they’re free of chemicals. Another way to enjoy and get the full benefits of apples is to wash them thoroughly under running water before munching.
