Finding Relief For Tooth Pain

Toothache pain is usually caused by an infection and or from tooth decay that has touched a nerve. Toothache pain can rang anywhere from the mildest ache to the most severe pain imaginable. And unfortunately the pain will sometimes strike at a time where it's inconvenient if not impossible to get to a dentist.

And lets face it, going to the dentist can be very expensive and not everyone can afford it. True its not a good idea to let a bad tooth go untreated but it's a sad fact that not everyone has the money to visit the dentist.

The following list of cures and remedies will at least help to get rid of your toothache and buy you a little time until you can visit the dentist.

Cure A Toothache With Salt

Mix some salt with warm water and then hold the warm salt water in your mouth for about 30 to 40 seconds and spit. This can be done several times a day as need to help with pain.

This works because salt has antiseptic properties to help fight infection and ease your toothache.

Treat A Toothache With Galic

Crush a glove of garlic and quickly apply it to the infected tooth. Allow it to sit in your mouth for a few minutes before swallowing and then rinsing your mouth with salt water. Garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic with strong antibacterial properties.

Use Onion
If you would rather not go the garlic route you can also try using onion. Many people have reported good results from either chewing a slice of onion or from applying crushed onion to the bad tooth.

Cure A Toothache With Clove Oil

Apply a drop or two of clove oil to the infected tooth, in most cases this will stop the pain almost immediately and help to kill the infection.

Use Oil of Oregano to cure a toothache

Just apply a couple of drops of oil of oregano to the bad tooth and surrounding gums. This can be repeated several times a day until you get the chance to visit your dentist.Oil of oregano is a very strong germ killer that will help to clear up the infection and bring you some quick pain relief. My son used it on an abscessed tooth and saw almost instant results.

You can also add a few drops of oil of oregano to a drink and take several times a day to help kill any infection that may be in your body. Just be prepared, because the oil of oregano is very strong and unpleasant tasting.

Facial Swelling

Facial swelling or chipmunk cheeks is caused by the presence of infection and it's not likely to go down until you start using an antibiotic like Amoxicillin, dosage is usually 250 mg every four hours or 500mg. every 8 hours.

Icing your face can also help, try 10 minutes on and 20 minutes off for best results. Don't apply heat to your face, it may feel good at first but this can cause the infection to spread.

For a more mild infection some people have reported good results from consuming and packing the bad tooth with freshly crushed garlic. Garlic has strong anti-bacterial properties but this is likely to be a pretty smelly treatment.

Tips And Warnings

Never let a tooth infection or abscess go untreated.  Infections especially severe infections almost always need antibiotics to get better, and if left untreated the infection could spread and perhaps even be fatal.

The red cross toothache medication is a good way to go. Otherwise if you are in a lot of pain from an infection and can't afford to go to a dentist, you can always pick up some fish mox from your local pet supply store. Fish mox is amoxicillin and it's the same stuff that you get from your dentist.
