Great longevity foods

Many people the world over are constantly seeking great longevity foods that offer them the long life they desire as they maintain their health. Good food surrounds us; it’s just that we are not interested in looking at what nature has to offer. Below are suggested foods to add into the diet to ensure the right nutritional balance is achieved. The good thing about the foods is that you can fix them in any of the meals and get to enjoy their benefits.

This is one great food to enjoy, whether raw or cooked. Tomatoes are a major source of antioxidant Lycopene. Lycopene is a substance contained in large quantities in tomatoes and contains antioxidant as well as anti proliferative properties too. Studies have shown that this antioxidant can single handedly reduce the risk of contracting cancer by up to 40%. Further, tomato eaters have a lower risk of heart disease and their mental function is high even when they attain old age. Taking one raw tomato a day is recommended as key to ensuring that the desired results are attained. If you do not happen to fancy the tomato raw, you can plan to include tomatoes when cooking food to get the amazing benefits the hold.

Olive oil

This is another of the longevity foods that ought to be included in the daily diet. Rather than cook with common vegetable oil, opt to use olive oil, and if possible extra virgin oil. The use of olive oil is recommended as an excellent food that helps avoid cancer and heart disease. Olive oil contains monosaturated fatty acids that have been shown to be the best dietary fat. Research has shown that people who have suffered heart disease and use olive oil live twice longer as compared to those who use other low fat alternatives in their diet. Use of olive oil is also recommended for diabetics, especially those who suffer from type 2 diabetics. It is important to remember that olive oil is denatured by heat and light. Storage should therefore be in a dark and cool place, preferably in the refrigerator.

Red Grapes

These are yet another of the longevity foods that should be included in the diet. These are included due to the antioxidant properties that they possess. Antioxidant properties in red grapes surpass those from tomatoes and oranges. The best form of taking these is through their consumption whole, though drinking of grape juice would also suffice.

Used for hundreds of years, as a longevity food, garlic has been shown to have high amounts of antioxidants that fend off cancer and heart disease. They have also been shown to slow down ageing and promote general good health. They are best consumed raw to ensure maximum benefits to the body. The strong smell notwithstanding, you should learn to take garlic raw as the garlic acid is the reason for their strong smell. If the smell is too strong for you, use of garlic in cooking will also offer benefits to health.

This is yet another of the longevity foods that comes second to garlic in the antioxidant properties it possesses. Research has shown that it is an excellent food that helps in preventing heart disease, cancers and also ensures optimal mental health. It is also a great source for dietary fiber that. One great way to get all the benefits of spinach is blending it whole and adding garlic or ginger for some flavor. This would make a great smoothie.

Whole grains

Studies have shown that the higher the concentration of whole grains consumed, the healthier you become and increase livelihood significantly. Whole grains are recommended as they have high fiber and also help in the excretion of cholesterol, among other benefits that they may independently have.

The beauty of including fish in the diet is that they come loaded with high quality omega 3 oils. The omega 3 oil has been shown to have great benefits in promotion of heart health right to general body function. If you have kids, this is one of the foods that must never be skipped as it promotes mental growth in effect making them mentally alert and focused. Do choose the best longevity foods outlined and you can rest assured of a happy and healthy life.

While foods can help in longevity, the attitude of the person goes along with that. Great hub. Voted up.

Wow I like the fact that garlic slows down aging, if it wasn't for the strong smell it would be a whole lot easier to eat.

Thank you for stopping by my hub and commenting. The sad fact about garlic is that its strong smell is from garlic acid which contains most of the benefits. If you remove garlic acid from the garlic (which can be done) you will not have much to gain. Just use it in cooking, you still get value out of it all the same. :)
