Save Money and Live Healthier

A true story is always the best story and to be able to tell a true story you have to experience it first for it to be true. So I'm going to share with you my true story about a serious health issue that hit me by surprise. It changed my life and my way of eating. I now believe in greenhouses and gardens more than ever. This is my story and let me explain what I have learned and how it can benefit you.

We are always hearing something about all the processed foods in our grocery stores today. What to eat and what not to eat. Foods that are being recalled for various reasons. With the food I get from my garden I know what I'm getting and what is going into my body. Also, having a garden gives me the necessary exercise each person needs on a daily basis to stay healthy. Therefore, I am benefiting from my garden by getting my daily exercise, getting healthy foods and foods I like, and saving a tremendous amount of money every month.

I didn't see the money savings so much until at the end of the year when I looked at how much I spend in each area of my life as a total. My health care cost, such as doctor visits, lab test, and medicines was cut back from approximately $800.00+ a month to almost $0.00 a month. I can't grow my own doctor or prescription medicines so there are still some medical cost that we can't get away from. Still my overall health cost has been reduced significantly since having a garden. Allowing me to afford to eat healthier and not having to pay the high price for the healthier foods. My food cost was cut back by 50% to 75% depending on what I grew in the garden. That's a tremendous savings for anyone.

So let's look at this in dollar amounts. If I spent a minimum of $150.00 a week at the grocery store, that's $600.00 a month on basic food cost, and this is processed food which is not the best for you or your health. With having a garden I spend no more than $200.00 to $300.00 a month on food cost at the grocery store and it is totally healthy for me. Basic medical cost was $150.00 just to walk in the doctor's office, lab test on average is $100.00 to $350.00 or more depending on what your having tested and how often, then medicine is averaged monthly at $100.00 to $500.00 and again depending on what and how much you need.

Below, I will show you the low and high cost of each area, food and medical before I had a garden and after I planted a garden. The savings in real dollars is beyond belief and the health benefit is just as hard to believe. My doctors are still amazed at the health results as I am.

Before Garden Cost

  • Monthly Medical Cost - $350.00 to $1,000.00
  • Monthly Food Cost - $400.00 to $800.00

After Garden Cost

  • Monthly Medical Cost - $0.00 to $350.00
  • Monthly Food Cost - $150.00 to $250.00

Monthly Savings

  • Monthly Medical Savings; $350.00 to $650.00
  • Monthly Food Savings; $250.00 to $550.00

Total Savings

  • Monthly total Medical and Food Savings;$600.00 to $1,200.00
  • Yearly total Medical and Food Savings; $7,200.00 to $14,400.00

I didn't even include the gas prices on this study and everyone is starting to look at how much it cost in gas today to get to these places. So with that in mind then there are more savings that need to be added to the total picture. By having a garden and not having to pay the price of gas to go to the store as often that makes for an added bonus. Because it's not just one trip to the store, but two trips since we always have to take that extra trip back to the store for something we have forgotten.

These are averages estimated and will vary depending on your own personal lifestyle, amount of doctor visits, medicines, amount of people you feed and the amount of food each person eats. Therefore, it is impossible to have one set amount of savings for every home. Every home will have their own amount of savings. The more people involved the more savings involved. These estimates were based on a family of two adults and children that visit, but do not live in the home all the time.

When looking at these amounts of savings I have to ask myself why did I wait so long to do this and how did I ever make it without a garden. Some say they don't have time for a garden or don't have a green thumb. OK, so neither do I. However, when it comes to saving money, staying alive and living life, then like most people I'm all ears. I never would listen to anyone telling me to plant a garden. Until I let someone do it for me and watched the food savings and my health improve tremendously.

I was almost on my death bed and now I'm healthier than most people with the same health issues. I was told I am type II diabetic along with other health problems. They put me on medication and told me what to eat and what not to eat. Doctors said I would have to stay on my medication and this was my new way of life. Well, I'm here to tell you that having a garden really changed all that and not just with the money savings. Yes, I'm still diabetic. However, I no longer have to take prescription medicine, don't have to worry about what I eat as much because I am now called a diet controlled diabetic. Again, I saved on medical with less doctor visits, less lab test, and less medicines to take.

So let's think about this now. What is most important to you? The answer should be you and without your health there is no you. Just another sick person in and out of the hospital and someone telling them what to eat and what to do. Why do I want to spend all my time going from this job to that job, and then at the end of the month have nothing but more headaches, more body aches, more bad health issues and now less money from all of it. We still have to eat to survive and stay healthy and what's the best way to achieve it.

Greenhouses kits are becoming a new way of life for many. The future is going green and it's time for you to come join the rest of us before it's to late. It's time to take control of your health, your eating habits, your financial troubles and turn it all around to start living a healthier lifestyle for yourself.

Buy a greenhouse kit and have your own grocery store right there in your own yard or in your apartment and stock the grocery store with the foods you like and eat. I mean, why stock the grocery store for everyone, unless your in the food business, to include items your not interested in, don't cook or eat. And then pay the higher price for the items you do like. With the money saved, look at savings above, you would have more than enough to buy that round house garden kit, hot house, or cold frame greenhouse. They are not that expensive when you look at the actual savings every month or on a yearly basis.
