Updated on February 14, 2010

Health and Beauty Habits

Cleanliness and good general health are the foundation of an attractive appearance. A healthy body is reflected in the way you look. It is important to know that health influences looks. If you are healthy, you have shiny hair, your skin is clear, your nails are not easy to break and you look better than when you are ill. Definitely, you look more attractive if you are physically healthy. Likewise, grooming and cleanliness contribute to health. Cleanliness is an essential part of good health and good grooming. How do you keep yourself clean? Taking a bath is a basic rule to cleanliness. Bathing can also be a real health and beauty treatment. A bath stimulates circulation, improves the texture of the skin, massages muscles, relaxes you and peps you up. Daily bath gives you a clean, clear complexion. There are other health habits necessary to a clear complexion. They are plenty of sleep and rest, proper elimination, regular exercise and fresh air and a balanced diet. Unless these basic health habits are followed, other things you may do will have no effect on your total appearance.

Health Habits that Enhance a Pleasing Personal Appearance

Sleep and Rest

You are growing rapidly and you need sufficient sleep for growth. As a teenager, you have plenty of activities and you use a great deal of energy. Sleep helps to restore energy. You are alert, lively and agreeable if you have enough sleep.

The proper amount of sleep aids digestion, prevents fatigue and helps you to enjoy work and play. When you enjoy what you do, you are happy.

Most teenagers need between 8 to 10 hours sleep each night in a well-ventilated room.

Rest after meals is recommended, so that the blood supply needed for the digestion of food is available.

Digestion and Elimination

Digestion and elimination both play important parts in giving your skin a clear, sparkling appearance. For regular elimination, you should do the following:

1.                     Eat raw and cooked fruits and vegetables.

2.                     Eat whole-grain cereals.

3.                     Drink plenty of water, at least 6 to 8 glasses a day.

4.                     Establish a regular time for elimination.

5.                     Take daily exercise.

6.                     Maintain general good health so as to avoid tension.

A bowel movement a day at a certain time should be part of your daily living routine. Headaches, unpleasant breath, and poor complexion often are the result of constipation or irregular habits of elimination.

Regular Exercise and Fresh Air

Exercise taken regularly and moderately develops the body muscles, stimulates the appetite and aids the process of digestion and elimination.

Exercise in fresh air and sunshine is as necessary for healthful living as are food and rest.

Exercise may include games, sports or athletic exercises. Exercise helps control weight because you burn up calories when you exercise.
