Healthy Body Sculpting Exercise for Women

Updated on July 7, 2011

This hub is going to focus on “old fashioned” Healthy Body Sculpting Exercise for Women that has been proven to have many great benefits. In the suck it, tuck it, quick fix world of today body sculpting has taken on a new meaning due to liposuction and other less-invasive devices that promises to sculpt one’s body quickly. It was shocking to see how many more websites are devoted to liposuction and other methods of sculpting a body quickly. However, it is the author’s believe that one should workout and become the healthiest person one can be before resorting to liposuction and the likes. Many have forgotten that in the past body sculpting was defined as participating in a fitness program using weights, flexibility, and endurance training; but not running or jumping, to shape hips, thighs, upper arms, and buttocks into a lean, toned healthy body.

Of course with the mixed messages that have been sent over the years, one can understand why many women have just given up and elected to have the surgery instead. For years it was believed that fat turned into muscle, but later it was discovered that this was untrue. Another of the myths about body sculpting was that weight training would build large muscles on women. So women were told to stick to diets low in calories and aerobic exercises; then gradually women were told to only do light weights and high repetitions.

Starting a Body Sculpting Exercise Program

Presently it is known that a woman can reshape her body via body sculpting with weight training, strength training, and aerobic exercises. All three forms of exercise entail a lot of information so for the purpose of this hub I am going to provide links where you can get additional information. Once an individual gains muscle weight to her body it will began to require more energy which will increase the resting metabolism and this will assist in losing overall body fat. Muscle is estimated to burn at least three times more calories than fat. Muscle gained can be extremely beneficial when an individual begins to grow older.

Of course before starting this routine if an individual has medical conditions requiring one to be under a physicians care you should consult with your doctor to be sure such physical activity is appropriate. If it is o.k. then make a commitment and start slowly because it takes time to build the body safely. One thing that is good about body sculpting is that it does not have to cost a lot of money to begin such training. Years ago, when I decided to attempt body sculpting I started out using two 16 oz bottles of water to act as my 2 pound weights. Other items that can assist you around the home are towels, old tee shirts, an old belt and other such items that a good training DVD will let you know about. Buying a good book or a couple of DVDs will help you to perform the exercises properly and give alternatives for various muscle groupings.

However, if you do have a gym membership then you will be able to use the dumbbells there in the gym. Since body sculpting entails an alternation of the upper body and lower body aerobic and strength training workouts, which uses light free weights and exercise bands to sculpt one’s body. A good goal to start with would be at least 2 to 3 times a week in which you can alternate working all your muscles or by splitting upper and lower body being sure to rest the muscles at least one day before using it again. There should be one set of 8-12 repetitions in which the last three or four reps are difficult to finish. When the amount of weight starts to get easy, start increasing the weight and the number of sets performed.

Benefits of Performing Healthy Body Sculpting Exercise for Women:

Weight Loss – In the beginning when an individual begins body sculpting that involves heavy weight training there may be an initial weight gain.  The reason is that muscle weights more than fat. However, one should not get dismayed because if you continue with the workouts you will get a toned slimmer looking body that makes you look thinner than what you weight.  Then one gains self-confidence because you look and feel so much better.  The energy level increases and remains consistent throughout your day.

Osteoporosis - As you know if your female relatives suffer with brittle bones, chances are you will have to deal with this issue once you grow older.   Lifting weights slows down the loss of bone density that leads to the brittle bones of this disease.  The reason is that the stress of heavy weights stress the bone and causes it to get stronger.  And the great thing about body sculpting is that by working with someone familiar with this form of exercise one can start training at any age.  Developing stronger bones and muscles not only helps to increase your strength but it can also add stability and balance to one’s equilibrium which will assist in reducing the risk of injury from falling.  Again, weight lifting will not cause women to become too bulky because of our lack of testosterone.  Don’t get this confused with bodybuilding in which women can become bulky through special training, diets, and supplements.

Perimenopause/menopause – Fitness and exercise become very important when a woman begins this phase of her life.  Usually a reduction in hormones causes many women to begin to reflect that dreaded “middle age spread” in which many gain in the love hands and abdomen or the hips and thighs.  This increase around the middle contributes to the gradual weight gain 10 to 15 pounds of fat that I wrote about in my hub titled, Healthy Weight Loss Program was Unsuccessful. In addition with the weight gain comes a slowed down metabolism that can leave one feeling sluggish with no energy.  And unfortunately there is yet another issue which is on an average about five pounds of muscle is lost every decade. However, the good news is that body sculpting can help to slow down or prevent weight gain and strength loss.

In Conclusion

This concludes Healthy Body Sculpting Exercise for Women; I hope you have found something new that you might want to try if you are unfamiliar with this type of exercises. I must admit that composing this hub has stirred up my interest in body sculpting. I did this form of exercise for a while about ten years ago and really loved the way my body was looking. Unfortunately, not as good as the lady to the right here.

However, I allowed life to get me out of the routine; stop going and never really considered starting back until now. While watching the ladies do their curls and lifting of weights, I could actually feel “the burn” within my muscles. Similar to when you watch someone riding a bicycle and you feel almost as though you can peddle for them. Well I guess, that means I’ll be dusting off the old weight today and getting back started.  As an incentive to us all be sure to see the video below that shows some of the starts that have done body sculpting before.

Please let me know your thoughts by leaving comments, especially if you do body sculpting or some other form of your exercise in your lifestyle routine.
