Real nice layout and excellent content. for example- Watermelon is a very good source of vitamin C, beta-carotene and lycopene. Watermelon is a good source of vitamins B1 and B6, pantothenic acid, biotin, magnesium, potassium and soluble fiber.

I'd never thought of watermelon containing lycopene, but it makes sense with the red color. And I didn't realize they contain Vitamin C as well. Summer is just beginning in Peru and we live in watermelon territory, so we'll be sure to eat our share! Thanks!

I've been planning to plant watermelon in my garden next year-- some to keep and some to sell at the farmers' market. If I can get my watermelon patch to bear fruit, this information will make some excellent selling points. Thank you for the post.

Hi beingwell,

I do like watermelons and so does my little son, the watery nature of watermelons makes them some of the water fulfilling fruits around not to mention they are crunchy and sugary. I didn't know however that watermelons have higher lycopene nutrients than carrots and tomatoes, i have learnt something new today. Great article and i like the photos used here. Voted up, useful and shared with followers.

Although it's winter in Peru, summertime is abundant of juicy watermelon. I didn't know they have lycopene, although that makes sense because of the red color. It's also good to know about the Vitamin C. Who would've thought? Thanks so much! Voted up.

You're absolutely correct, Michel! Thanks for raising that up. My line of thinking was that watermelons are vines, yet the fruits are harvested above ground... not underground. Hahaha!! :)

Hello Beingwell,

I really like the information you offer here. It is rich and valuable.

One quick question though. You said in the second paragraph, second sentence that watermelons grow underground. I think you meant they grow on the vines on top of the ground. I might be wrong. If that was the case, I do apologize for my lack of knowledge.

What a lot of information in this hub! We've always loved watermelon--so cooling in the south's hot summers--and I knew it was good for us, but I learned much more about how good it is from this hub. Thanks!
