Yes Banana or the plantain! Banana has been one of man/woman’s favorite foods for several centuries. It has been known to have existed as wild fruits in the Pacific and South Asian region (some species exist even today). Domesticated cultivation of plantains goes back to 8000 BC or even earlier. There are several references to the fruit in historic texts across the world.

In India the different parts of the entire plantain tree is used for several its many medicinal values. In India the corm (found below soil) which is used to propagate the banana tree is cleaned and crushed. The juice from the corm is used to help reduce effects (treat) jaundice.

Fact: In Indian cooking various parts of the plant are used like the core of the bark, parts of the banana flower.
Benefit: The juice of either of these helps naturally dissolve any kidney stones. For good effect drink juice of the interior parts of banana flower or the core of the bark.

Meals are served in a plantain leaf in South India (even today), the reason being the food eaten from the leaves helps in digestion, since the food rubs against the leaf and you also end up consuming the serums from the leaves.

Ripe Banana – 1
Milk 2% or 1% or no fat – 1 mug
Honey – 1 teaspoon Optional

Info: Do not add sugar or sweetener to the shake.

Step 1: Cut or Smash banana into the blender.
Step 2: Add Milk.
Step 3: Blend to make thick shake.

This is a great way to start the day and a perfect addition to your breakfast. Also can be had in the night to help relieve constipation.

For Kidney Stone Problems and Detox

Ingredients:

Plantain bark – Is a white bark available in the farmers market.

Step 1: The bark peels in layers, remove the layers until you reach the absolute core.
Step 2: The core is a soft tissue that has to be bended into a juice using blender.

The juice is very bitter but very effective in treating kidney stones.

Great hub Bundleboy! Did you know that when people were bitten by a snake - even the cobra in the old days, all anyone did in South India was to cut down a banana plant, slit it open and place the inside on the wound. You can see the white fibrous insides turn blue. As soon as this stops, the venom apparently has all been sucked out and the person gets on with whatever he was doing!
