How I can get rid of drugs?

While the drug took effect slowly, Ann hoped the first flush of excitement. He had experienced many times before. Leaned back, closed his eyes and seemed to sink into a semiconscious state, unaware of everything around her.
But this was different. As he closed his eyes and felt a wave of euphoria came to be unconscious. The had a hard time breathing and her heart throbbed with an irregular rhythm. He was about to die.
“I woke up in hospital,” says Ann, whose face reflects an expression of gratitude for the fact that she is alive today to tell her story. “Several times I nearly lost my life, but luckily got the help they need before myself cause my death.”
Ann certainly was lucky. However, thousands of young people are not. Annually, an alarming number of young people due to the consumption of drugs. Many others want to get rid of drug habit, but fail after trying to live without drugs. What is this? Recovery and Relapse publication gives us a clue: “The emotional sobriety is in fact our goal, not just the physical withdrawal.”
In keeping with this declaration, a counselor in a large rehabilitation center in New York told the correspondent of Awake: “The secret to getting rid of drugs is not simply stop using drugs, but rather change the way thinking and his entire way of dealing with life. We must get to enjoy more of life without drugs than with them. ”
But how can this be achieved? According to a number of important programs of drug rehabilitation, getting rid of the habit of drugs must include a physical and emotional, to which we add a spiritual recovery. This is necessary to lead a happy life, free of drugs.

Physical recovery

The first step is the physical. (In a future issue of Awake! Be considered emotional and spiritual recovery.) Of course, this is the stop using drugs. If the person is physically dependent on drugs, will likely experience withdrawal symptoms, which include increased anxiety, tremors, nausea, insomnia, psychosis or seizures. (Compare with Proverbs 23:31, 32.)
I was extremely nervous, “recalls Allen, who spent 12 years of his life abusing drugs. When I stopped using drugs for the first time, suffering withdrawal symptoms were so severe that I could not even drive a car. “Given the dangers that are involved in the matter, it would be prudent to enlist the help of a competent physician familiar with the process of drug detox.
If someone physically or emotionally dependent on drugs, most professionals in the field of drug rehabilitation strongly recommend that the person refrain completely from all drugs that produce a change in mood. Drugs that cause changes in mood-altering mental and emotional one. In other words, are drugs that make you feel lethargic, sleepy, quiet, energetic, nervous, alert, or experiencing hallucinations. Such drugs include tranquilizers, narcotics, sedatives, alcohol, to drugs over the counter, such as cough medicine or medicine for colds, which may contain substances that cause changes in the state of mind as antihistamines or alcohol.
Why should avoid all those drugs the person who has abandoned the drug addiction? According to one publication on drug rehabilitation: “The only way to stop the habit or not to continue with it is not taking that first dose of a syringe, pill or drink. [...] We place great emphasis on this because we know that when we use drugs in any form, or substitute one for another, we release our addiction again. ”
Here’s an illustration: Consider the example of a heroin user is resetting. What if, after abstaining from heroin for some time, began to consume alcoholic beverages? Would be in real danger of reviving the momentum to get into a euphoric state. And once rekindled the urge to experience the euphoria, it is difficult not to return to drugs. “I urge you,” declares Recovery and Relapse “, once it has started the process with the ‘dose’ of a syringe, a pill or a drink, can not stop our own strength of will.” (Compare with Proverbs 23:35. )
That’s what happened to Allen, who had abstained from drugs for more than a year. On one occasion he was hospitalized was given a narcotic for pain. The drug triggered your urge to be euphoric. What was the outcome? “When I left the hospital, I drank like crazy,” recalls Allen. Eventually I went back to using all kinds of drugs sold on the street. ”

The attraction of feeling good

To better understand this issue, it is helpful to consider the main reason why drugs are used … to feel good. This is precisely the purpose of the drugs that produce mood changes. In some cases, are helpful. For example, suppose you are suffering from severe pain due to injuries suffered as a result of a serious car accident. Your doctor may prescribe a narcotic drug for pain relief so that will help you feel better while you recover. In addition to relieving pain, the drug could relax for means of reducing the anxiety you feel. This is due to the narcotic properties that cause changes in mood, which may be helpful for the recovery of a patient who has been exposed to severe trauma. (Compare with Proverbs 31:6.)
But it is different for the drug addict. Why? Well, why do you use this drug? Are you physically ill? Have you suffered serious injury? In most cases, he is simply looking for changes in mood that the drug produces. Why? It may have started to use drugs simply for fun, pleasure to get euphoric. But soon realize that the properties of the drugs that can produce mood changes instantly relieve (albeit temporarily) the emotional concerns of life. And the more you use drugs, more dependent on them to avoid situations in life that cause you discomfort. The appeal of avoiding the problems is what makes resort to drugs again to experience more and more the effect produced, changes in mood.
So the problem of recovering from drug abuse is not about just the physical addiction to drugs, but also the mentally dependent property having depressive or stimulant drugs. So, after you stop using drugs, being rehabilitated drug addict has to deal with the long-term problem of learning to live a happy life without drugs.

Total abstinence is essential!

Therefore, the fact of the matter is this: The totally abstain from drugs is essential for recovery. The Bible tells us: “If you’re doing right hand makes you stumble, cut it” (Matthew 5:30). Yes, it is better to ‘cut’ anything that makes us face in life, or get rid of it completely. Do not apply this advice to something potentially deadly as drug abuse? (1 Peter 2:11.)
But once the drug user takes a decision to abstain from these, how can stick to his decision? The Bible answers: “be transformed by making your mind” (Romans 12:2). Yes, you have to change their way of thinking, all the way to face life. Must stop looking for an escape through drugs that cause changes in mood and confidence to learn to deal with the concerns of life, making it so that you will really enjoy life in spite of any difficulties is present.
