The Power of Positive Thinking
When you first hear about the Law of Attraction the whole concept feels a bit like wishful thinking. How can simply thinking positive and imagining success manifest it into your life?
The short answer to that question is it can’t. But then, you might be asking, why is there so much hype surrounding the Law of Attraction?!
Well ... the short answer to that question is ... because it works.
What?! I know I’m probably confusing you right now - but thats ok. The Law of Attraction is pretty complex and has a lot of its groundings in our human psychology. The Law Of Attraction states that “like attracts like” meaning that if you think positive, then positive things are more likely to happen ... but if you think negatively, then negative things are more likely to happen.
So, while simply imagining that you have tons of money won’t actually make you rich - believing that you are a successful person can help you have the confidence it takes to land the job, get promoted, become a likable person, and all the other things that will eventually lead to financial success.
Think about it. Every successful person who has ever existed never thought they didn’t have what it took to succeed. Each one was passionate, driven, and, most importantly believed that they were capable of achieving their goals. Without that positive attitude, it is unlikely that any of them would have ever achieved greatness.
On the other hand, people that don’t believe that they are “good enough” normally fall into a depression or self-depreciating lifestyle ... and you can be sure that they’ll never just “stumble” upon being a successful person.
Not unless they change their perspective on themselves.
This is what the entire concept behind the Law of Attraction is based upon. If you are a positive thinking individual, then you are more likely to attract positive opportunities, relationships, and experiences in your life. If you are always depressed, getting down on yourself, and assuming that the world is against you - then good luck ever having something positive just randomly happen in your life!
My Story On Finding Success
Success can mean a lot of different things for a lot of different people. For me, success means achieving my dream. And my dream is to sail about the world seeing as many people and cultures as I can. I’ve never wanted to make a lot of money - I come from a wealthy family and have seen that money does not equal happiness.
However, it took me quite a few years before I reached that understanding. I went through college so I could enter a career I didn’t love - but had a nice paycheck. I was depressed, lonely, and lost. Nothing good ever seemed to happen to me. On the surface I was your typical “successful” college student ... but inside I was dying. I’d spend weeks alone in my apartment watching Fear Factor reruns until 3am, then sleep whenever I didn’t have class the next day.
It was not a good life.
And then I finally decided that I had had enough. I took a hard look at myself and determined that the life I was living wasn’t the life I wanted to live. I rediscovered my childhood fantasy of living on a sailboat and galavanting across the world on my little ship.
But it was just a dream. No one actually follows their dreams ... right?
About this time a wonderful movie came out called The Secret and it spoke about the Law of Attraction. The film focused on how positive thinking would affect every aspect of your life, from how you feel when you wake up in the morning, to the opportunities that were presented to you. I realized that I myself had a very negative view on the world ... but I was very doubtful that simply thinking positive would change anything. (Which in itself is a negative thought ... )
However, I started picking up some books on the subject of the Law of Attraction. I slowly become more self aware of how negative my normal thought processes were. I started to catch myself when I’d have a negative though, and instead try to find a positive way of viewing the situation.
And an amazing thing started happening. My life began to get better. I started to find little things that I could do in my everyday life that helped me live my “dream”. I moved onto a Floating Home on the river. I bought a small sailboat. I started to teach myself knots and how to read charts ...
... and now 7 years later I’m living on my new sailboat and preparing to sail about the world.
And all because of the power of positive thinking. Because I allowed myself to view the world in a different way - and in doing so saw how I could be different myself.
And you can do the same!

Learning How To Think Positively
In our culture today, thinking positive doesn’t come naturally. Turn on the news and we are bombarded by negative reports. We humans, as a species, seem drawn to hardship and drama. You can see in our culture how people, out of fear, have begun to change their life habits. I, for one, miss how I used to not have a care in the world when going to the airport or stepping on a plane. I feel awkward now when I go to a grade school to give a lecture ... and there are armed police officers patrolling the hallways. Yes, they are there to keep us safe ... but only because we believe that bad things are bound to happen in the first place (which is a negative thought).
We think negatively about anything and everything it seems like ... and then the world reacts accordingly.
So learning how to view the world as a wonderful place - and yourself as a wonderful part of that world - can take some real mental retraining. Luckily, there are a ton of books, audio lectures, videos, and programs out there that are devoted to helping people learn to harness the Law of Attraction and live more positive and successful lives.
You just have to find the right one for you ... which can be a bit daunting. My personal suggestion is Bob Proctor’s The 11 Forgotten Laws program. Bob Proctor was an integral part of the movie The Secret (the movie that started my whole transformation). His program The 11 Forgotten Laws give a step by step guide on how to harness the Law of Attraction and is very approachable for people who are just getting interested.
But this is just my suggestion. There are a ton of books out there and I don’t claim to have read them all. Experiment for yourself. Find someone who really seems to know where you’re coming from - and then let them help you get to where you want to be!
