Interesting feature. Useful information too. I have to admit that I have been sitting in front of a computer for up to ten hours a day since 1984, and I still have perfect 20;20 vision eyesight and don't need glasses yet. While, I don't take the recommended breaks away from the computer, I do re-focus on distant objects frequently, which I think helps a lot. I am also a great believer in sea kelp tablets which help too...

Midnight Oil, I think I all depends on your genes. If nobody from your family has problems with eyesight, than probably you won't have either. And, if you do certain exercises, that helps too keep the good eye vision.

If somebody, on the other side, has known eye health problems in their family, there is a great chance that spending too much time in from of the computer will have additional negative effect on their eyevision. That means, if a person has for example myopia, that problem might get worse over time if he or she doesn't do any exercises or make breaks.

cataracts can be forestalled by lessening UV light exposure and keeping a healthy weight to avoid diabetes.

Our body can use vitamins and monerals much better if they come through food. But, unfortunately, today food is not full of vitamins as it was the case a decades ago. People quite often skip meals and don't eat enough fruits and vegetables.

I agree with you that in this case it is better to take a pill, made especially for people with eye health problems, as it will be the faster and better way to get all necessary vitamins and antioxidants.

Dear Emma, thank for this hub, you did the right choice to put nutrition as the main key in the eye health. I can tell you that I was truly surprised to find out that some people in their late 70th got rid of cataracts just by chaning their nutrition to raw food! They did not even try to treat this eye problem, they were treating issues much more serious like cancer. Cataract disolving was just very nice side-effect from changing the diet completely.

I may argue with you a little bit about the supplements though. I would indicate that drinking freshly squeezed vegetable juice is much better for the overall health than just taking supplements.

I would also add to your list spine stretching which is extremely imprtant for the eye health (and overall health as well).

I guess nothing has troubled our eyes more than the life style we are living these days. We can't even avoid glaring at computer screens and in these circumstances what better way give your eyes a treat with naturally obtained substances.

This is why it is very important to live as healthier as we could and to eat as much vegetables and fruits as we can, because they contain lots of nutriens and help our eyes be better.

jenna, I'm not sure if taking sea kelp tablets can really benefit your eye vision.

Sea kelp contains mostly iodine and is benefitial for thyroid function and our immunity in general.

I guess it can't do you any harm, but I personally don't see some direct positive impact on eye health.

racking inspections, I think that eye glasses are the worst option, I had them and my eye vision became worse over a short period of time.

I switched to eye lenses and there were no improvement, but I didn't lose my eyesight anymore.

I also tried some exercises, they did improve my eye health and made me stop wearing both glasses and lenses.

But, my eye vision is not perfect there is still room for improvement.

Hi, I remember reading about eye exercises years ago, and did try it for a time, but never kept it up, maybe I should give it another go, as I wear contact lenses, great info, bookmarked!

Nell, I also tried eye exercises and managed to improve my eye vision, but not to the extent I wanted. So, after some time I stopped exercising.

I really believed that my eyesight will be great again, but I guess that is not possible only by performing exercises.

Maybe I should also start again :o)

midnightbliss food is the best source of vitamins and minerals. But some nutrients are very difficult to get throughout the food, so in that case taking supplements is ok.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I also have eye health issues and I'm always trying to find ways to improve my vision. We use our eyes all the time looking at TV or computer screens, and all kinds of gadgets. If we don't do something to protect our eyes we may loose our seight very easily.

This is why I decided to do a research and find some natural ways for eyesight improvement, such as healthy foods or exercise.
