The Best Way to Live to 100

Although, I´m not a centenarian, I´m going to try and give mi viewpoint on how to live to 100. Living to 100 is not very common on these days, especially in the cities where life occurs more rapidly compared to how it occurs in the country. In cities, people are more prone to develop stress than people living in the country. In addition, in the city, there is more pollution than in the country; therefore, people are more at risk of developing illnesses.

The life expectancy in these days is of around 70 years or less, depending on how and where you live your life. This is due to the stress and illnesses abounding in our modern society. The rhythm by which modern society has accustomed to live is one of the main reasons, a person is not expected to surpass the 70 years of age. Moreover, most people have acquired long learned habits which prevent them from living longer spans of time. The best way to live to 100 is to acquire those habits that may allow you to reach that goal.

Healthy Food (fruits, fish and vegetables) for a Longer Life

Diet is the base for developing good health. While all kinds of food can provide energy, not all food contains the same amounts of nutrients, as some contain more than others; therefore, you need to know what amount of nutrients your body needs. In our modern society, we have gotten used to eat all kinds of foods even those that have been processed and have lost some of their nutritional properties, and are known to be more harmful than beneficial.

Most nutritional diets today recommend including fruits and vegetables in the diet. Fruits and vegetables are known to provide the nutrients necessary to maintain your metabolism. These primary products won´t add body mass to your body; however, eating them can provide some essential nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, as well as carbohydrates and protein.

Eating fruits and vegetables can produce more benefits than harm to the body. This is one of the reasons that people who are vegetarian are known to live healthier and longer lives.

Exercise Habits of Centenarians

Most people, in modern days, have chosen to live sedentary lives. This could be due to modern advances in technology, which are known to be of great advantage in today´s lifestyle. Some of these advances, such as the television and the car, permit to stay in close contact with what´s occurring in the world, and allow the rapid displacement from one place to another, respectively.

These type of lifestyle, sometimes affects how people move around with their lives, preventing them from performing healthy physical activities.

While watching TV may allow you to be informed of what´s occurring in the world, it may also keep you from being physically active, which could prevent a lot of diseases. The car is one of the basic necessities in modern society, especially if you live in the city. Most people have accustomed themselves to drive their car, even if the driving involves a place, such as the corner store.

You might do yourself a benefit, and walk instead; this may bring about health benefits to your body´s system, especially the bones.

Reduce Stress-Live Longer

Daily living, nowadays, often is accompanied by stress. Whether it is news about crime, terrorism, wars or famine in other parts of the world, etc.

Everyday there´s something to worry about, and that affects us psychologically and physically. Sometimes, we worry too much about the future, among other matters, including the thought of death. The worries might stem from the lack of money or unemployment, as well.

One of the things one can do to avoid stress is to avoid the sources of stress. If the source of stress comes from the news on TV, a good choice would be to watch TV programs that are enjoyable, such as documentaries or cartoons.

If thinking about the future and what lies beyond life causes you stress, the remedy would be to direct your thoughts to the issues of the present, and if being unemployed originates some stress in you, find yourself a job or self-employ yourself. There is nothing worse than not being able to remedy our own lives.

Stay Away from Contamination

Living in a city involves many advantages, but also has its disadvantages. While people who live in a city can benefit from the infrastructure and abundance of services and cultural and educational institutions, the noise, pollution, and the rush of city life, over time, can cause health problems, especially in the nervous system.

Many people have never been out of their city, and they probably don´t know how peaceful and pleasurable, it is to live in less crowded communities. People who live in more tranquil regions are known to develop fewer diseases than people who are exposed to the daily stressors in a city. While some people cannot afford to live out of the city, they might start to think about changing residence if they want to reach the 70s and probably the 100s.

Quiz: Based on your score, those are the years you´re going to live

Summary

If your intention is to live to 100, you need to make some changes in your lifestyle, considering a change in diet, an increase of daily physical activities, types of entertainment and thinking habits. You might also want to consider changing your residence to a more peaceful region in your country, such as the beach or a country house in the mountains. While the change in lifestyle should be considered now, the change of residence can be considered as a plan after retirement.

Writer´s Personal Experience

I have lived in both the city and the country, more in the city than in the country, and from my experience, I have noticed that people who live in less populated cities, where they don´t have rush hours, crime or pollution, and they even know each other, tend to live longer and happier lives than people who live in the city.

Even though, I don’t expect to live to 100, I´m considering changing my residence to a coastal city by the beach, and this is with the purpose of avoiding city stressors and pollution, as well as for the benefits of sea food, which is known to provide healthy nutrients for the system, especially the omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.

Eat well, move more, and get plenty of rest in between. We all know this, yet when it comes to looking after ourselves, all too often we become slow learners and fast forgetters. That's why articles like this are invaluable; they remind us of what we already know, yet seem to have conveniently forgotten ;)
