How to Lose 30 Pounds in 20 Days

Are you desperate to lose weight? Do you need to shed off more than just a couple of pounds? Do you even need to lose 30 pounds in 20 days?

Well, it may not be as hard as you think. Not too long ago I lost about 30 pounds in 20 days myself by using a handful of simple steps that proved to be very effective (and easy!) I'll share with you the exact tips I used to do it.

So if I can do it, so can you! Especially if I'm known for being a little lazy. Good luck!

Tip #1: Drink More Water to Lose Weight

This may seem too simple but it's true: most people are very dehydrated during their diets. Drinking 8-12 glasses a day can help you lose about 1/2 pounds more each day than someone who isn't consuming as much water.

Why? It's about your liver.

You see, one important function your liver holds is the ability to burn fat. When you're dehydrated, your liver cannot operate at 100% efficiency and your fat burning is slower or shuts down. So, drink up and stay hydrated!

Tip #2: Drink More Smoothies to Lose Weight


How else did I lose weight? I drank a smoothie every morning when I woke up.

Don't make this harder then it needs to be! Just throw some fruits (strawberries and blueberries are my favorite. Bananas are also great for a thicker texture) and add some milk, then blend. That simple!

Not only did I feel great because it was healthy, but it filled me up for a long time.

Tip #3: Love Yourself to Lose Weight

Love yourself? Okay, let me explain!

Here a little from an interview with Jon Benson (creator of the "Every Other Day" diet):

"Love is the key to staying on a diet, a workout plan . . . anything that requires a change of lifestyle. It may seem obvious, but unless you actually love the diet you are on, there is little chance of you staying on it for very long," says Benson. "All diets require a change in how you look at food, how you consume food, and even how you think about food. The problem is most diets make too many demands of the dieter right off the bat. They tell you not to eat certain foods, sometimes making that a permanent restriction, while allowing perhaps a day per week to 'overeat' your favorite foods."

"This is a disaster waiting to happen . . . and there is a much more balanced, healthy, and effective way to diet than this," states Benson.

So there you have it! If you want to lose 30 pounds in 20 days you need to love your diet!

so, I'm 16 and hate my body really haha so with eating extremley healthy with the fact I have a plan. If I eat only when I am REALLY hungry, and eat healthy food, and excersise for at least 5 ours a day, could this be possible? could it even be possible to lose more?

@melissa..please love your body as it is. then take your weight lost one step at a time. all that you have to do is workout 30-40 minutes at least 4 days a week..and cut out all starches..if u can cut meat out of your diet & starches for 21 days..replace meat with beans.. drink 8-10 glasses of water a day and a smoothie for breakfast and you will lose wonders

Love yourselves girls! Don't put yourselves down! A happy heart and accepting yourself for the beautiful real you is the first step. Trust me, stress and being down on yourself just makes it harder. I think the smoothie diet sounds nice :) I lost 60 pounds just from leaving a bad relationship. I gained my self confidence back and it just fell off. Of course I gained it all back after another bad relationship, and now it seems a little harder to get rid of the weight. Now I'm with a fantastic guy and we are getting married in a month, I met him at my bigger size but he loves me for who I am and he likes me just this way. My whole family and co workers have put me under a lot of pressure about my weight issues, they've made my situation worse because they made me feel bad about my body. I just want to get married as myself, I hate caring about what people think because it hurts. I have failed again and again on all these stupid fad diets because I actually listen to these jerks that tell me I'm not strong enough.

Be nicer to yourself. Eat good healthy stuff, avoid processed junk. MMM...fruit smooties, water, protien

It truly is about loving yourself... I have been through the whole I hate my body i'm too fat jazz as a teen... I gained about 60 lbs over my high school years... I these tips and actually lost 30 lbs in 23 days... at first it didn't seem to work so then I tried telling myself every day that I am beautiful exactly how I am and bam the weight started falling off. So love yourself its key to being a happy you! :)

I'm 16 about to turn 17 in 2 months, and i currently weigh 169 pounds. My goal is to lose at least 30 pounds (an ideal would be 40) by the time I turn 17. I have already lost 27 pounds since last year by doing Jenny Craig, then switching to extreme fad diets, and now just trying to eat less and healthy, and exercising a few times a week. It pains me to see that 12 year old young girls are even concerned about losing weight so much because it reminds me of me. I used to be like that, and because of my desire to be "skinny" I ended up getting really sick. Girls, it's not worth it. Don't strive to be skinny, strive to be healthy.

@Elijah Johnson- no it's not bad. I weighed that much when I was about 10 years old. If you make very subtle healthy choices and exercise 3 times a week, you'll be fine. It's your age to gain a bit of weight and throughout time if you treat your body right, everything will fall into place. Just don't do anything extreme because it WILL be ruin your health and be something you strongly regret. Trust me on this one, I've been through it all when it comes to losing weight, gaining it, or even being stuck on a plateau. Good luck my dear, always remember to love yourself and treat your body right!

if you are 12 and you want to get down to 98. i just would like you to know that if you get down below 100lbs, then you will lose the shape of a curvy body. eat healthy foods and just excersise. if you get too skinny you will look like a stick. i suggest that you should only be at 115lbs. but you really are beauitiful, don't let bitches get in the way.

Okay so I'm 14 and I need to lose 30-40 lbs in 3 weeks , so I'm going to starve and idc what anyone says my mom staved and lost 50 lbs in three weeks she ate once every 5 days and it was a big salad with no dressing just lemon , let me tell you something it works ! She also worked out she jogged and did crunches and while working out she wore a garbage bag around her body to make her sweat even more . I'm over weight I promise , this is going to help as long as you don't over eat once you lost your weight you won't gain it back don't be lazy about it . Im 24 I have a 7yr old and a 4yr old, both times I after I gave birth I had difficulty losing aight. Being on the larger side was very difficult for me, you see I was a football player in school and in incredible shape. The easiest way I found to lose weight was dance. And I don't mean just dance girls it may sound ridiculous but buy a pole for yourself at home and dance away. I just thought to myself how do strippers stay in shape bc they have beautiful bodies. Of course at 12 and 16 your parents will probably never allow this so go to your room shut the door stand in front off a mirror and sexy dance for yourself. I can for sure say I know it works I lost 60 pounds the first time after my son in just 4 months. And I didn't think I was big after having my daughter but when she was two and I was stop 170 pounds I realized it was time to do something so I started dancing for mused and after three months I was back to 120. And not just thinner but toned and defined. I didn't change my diet what so ever.

I lost 40 pounds in 8 days!!! Here's how I did it:

- Drank lots of water.

- Exercised 10 minutes...twice a day.

- Ate a banana for breakfast, a grapefruit for lunch, and a caesar salad (with anchovies) for dinner every day.

My mom told me that I need to lose weight because we have diabetes in the family. I would like to know the most efficient, quick ways to lose as mush as 30 pounds. Over a year ago I lost 120 pounds and at the beginning of my journey I tried the starving thing for a couple days but I was so weak I was unable to exercise and so I began searching good foods that are high in protein, not too much. At first I failed again for 2 months i was eating fruit and chicken etc but in too small of portions. I did lose 40 pounds but my hair fell out. So I began taking vitamins and eating lots of green vegetables and fruit and chicken and fish and i successfully lost another 80 pounds. I exercised an hour a day at least 4-5 days a week and in 6 months all together i was 120 pounds lighter. Hard work,Dedication, Patience, appreciation into any loss will lead you to a successful loss. Hard work pays off. Don't try &get by, by starving yourself

Alright, all this talk of starving yourselves is scaring me a little. Anybody who knows anything about how the body works knows that if you take in an insufficient amount of calories your body will actually STORE fat. Without proper nutrition, your hair will start falling out and lose its shine, your skin will break out, and the enamel on your teeth will slowly deteriorate due to the levels of acidity in your saliva (much worse if you try making yourself throw up). Basically, eventually you might be skinny but you'll look like crap so you're just trading one part of you that you dislike for another when it can be easily avoided. Also, you can die and honestly it's not that hard to kill yourself from starvation and malnutrition.

So what would I suggest? First, check your metabolic rate. That'll tell you how many calories you personally burn for your height, weight, and activity levels. You have to burn a 3500 calories to lose a pound of fat, HOWEVER, you will drop a lot more weight at first because a lot of it will be "water weight". This is just all of the liquids salts and sugars force to stay in your body.

Alright, so drink a ton of water! I drink at least 100 ounces a day and then up it if you don't lose anything for a few days. Make sure it's cold (Your body will burn more because it has to work to warm it up). Next, I would cut solid foods at night. I don't eat solids after 3 pm but if you stay up later I'd say 6. Soups are awesome and smoothies are amazing, especially if you add just a tiny bit of kale or spinach. You can taste it and it'll help clear your system out. Earlier in the day, eat stuff you like, but don't binge. I usually start with a big chicken salad and I add cheese and crunches and olives-whatever I want. I have a granola bar in the middle of the day and on top of those, I eat fruit. Apples are a great fruit to eat because they naturally cleanse your body.

If you want to go even further, cut out all unnatural sugars. Read labels. Walden Farms salad dressing has a lot of variety and no sugar. If you want an artificial sweetener, go for Stevia. Splenda and things like that trick your body and will actually make you retain weight in the long run. Also, if you're a soda person, buy Zevia soda. Again, no sugar and pretty good.

Exercise is important, but not as important as diet when it comes to weight loss. If you're working out, but not cutting calories, you probably won't lose a whole lot. Make sure you don't go under 1100 calories. Like I said, that's one of the easier ways to gain weight.

There's a lot more I could tell you but what I want to leave it at is once you hit your goal weight DO NOT start eating like you did before. You will gain weight and you will gain it faster than ever. Day by day just add one thing back into your diet and you should be fine.

I am so sad to read a lot of these posts. For starters, weight is all relative to height. If you are 5'9 you should NOT, I repeat NOT want to weigh anything below 150, for example. If you weighed 130 at 5'9 you would be grossly under weight. This society has such a stigma against the dreaded number that no one knows what is healthy anymore.

For those of you preteens and teens posting on here, before you go and starve yourself and end up in the hospital go to google at search for a BMI calculator. It will help you come up with an ideal weight for you. Starving yourself and working out excessively with nothing in your stomach is a sure fire way to end up passing out in the middle of a run. Be smart girls. :)

You'll say you hate your body, but don't diet because you hate you're body. Do it out of lie for your body, it's gonna be with you the rest of your life. Keep it healthy. Adding on the article, try cutting out anything that has flour from your diet. It's terrible for you. It has more calories in 2 slices of whole wheat bread than a candy bar, and it's full of carbs and a kind of acid that makes your body retain fat. Skip the sandwich an have a salad.

Hi I am 13 and I weigh 160 lbs. I really need to lose some weight because i am not healthy at all. I rarely exercise. Most of the stuff i eat is crap and now i like a boy so i need to look my best in a short time. Plz help me. Also what did you eat for lunch and dinner and did you exercise?

I'm 13 an weight like 160 to 165 I fill ugly an I think if I do this will it work cuz :/ I think if I lose at much just to let my belly go flat but not to flat not to go all thin just my belly to go flat ill be happy my b-day is in January an if I at least lose 15 to10 pounds ill kno I can do it be cuz ima go to high school next year an I don't want people to point an mess with me with my weight I kno beauty comes in all shapes an sizes but I don't fill itz is the size/shape for me I have two cousins that will b going there when I go but...:/. Starvation is not the answer, Sweeties. It will only make you sick in the end. You NEED food for energy in order to do things that you need to do in your daily routines. Calories/carbs, etc are the energy your body needs in order to function. No, you don't need TONS of these things. You just need the 'right proportion' and to keep your calorie in take at least 200-300 below the amount you need to keep at your CURRENT weight.

So far, I've lost over 35lbs, which I have done all on my own, with no friends, no family; and the help of Zumba and Just Dance 3/4. I love to dance, and I HATE exercising. Gym equipment is boring, and FEELS exactly what it is. Like you're working out. But Zumba and Just Dance... are fun, and I don't think about "oh, I'm working out", I think.. this is fun, I'm up, I'm moving, and it feels great! I do have my moments of my weight fluctuating, but I do not let that discourage me.

As I am so proud of myself for getting back to the 100's. I used to be closing in on 220... about 4 years ago and then.. I slowly made my way to 205. & Then July of last year, I put my foot down and now I've reached 169; I still want to lose weight... I still want to keep going. But I just basically work out on Zumba/Just Dance for about an hour a day, and I push myself in every dance that I do. Let's just say... I sweat A LOT, which is good, because the more you sweat, the more calories you burn, and the weight is just going to come off. You're going to start noticing your body is shrinking, that your body's inches are changing. & It's a great feeling

I have several jeans that used to be a bit snug on me; and now they're falling off.

The first thing you MUST keep in mind. This will NEVER come easy, nor will it work over night. Losing weight is not something that will happen quickly, or fast. It's going to take a few months, especially when you have those moments of fluctuation. But you must not let that stop you. Keep going. In fact, I have several tips to share on how I keep myself motivated.

Step 1: Always tell yourself that you CAN do this. You need to allow yourself to know that you WANT this. Because, it's the only way you're going to be able to push yourself to the farthest and to keep yourself from touching that pizza, or pie... (NOT that that's a bad thing. You can have "cheat" days), but when you cheat, you shouldn't over do it.

Step 2: Make a Video Blog of your progress. Talk about your weight goals, your eating schedules, make sure to weigh yourself BEFORE you make the video, or even during.. so you can show what the scale says. Include your schedules or progress of working out, what you ate for the day, etc, etc..

This does not have to go online.... it can be kept private and to yourself. I use an IPod to record my vidoes and I keep them there so that I can watch them over when I'm feeling discouraged, or when I'm feeling great about myself and being able to see yourself and how far along you've came, and you can see the transformation.. is really a great feeling and very motivating. : )

Step 3: Always drink water. Every once in a while you could have a soda beverage, but I just completely took these out of the picture... Sometimes, when I'm visiting at my mom's house... it gets a little difficult.. because that's all they drink, and I do not like faucet water, or bottled. I have to have mine filtered. So, I got me a filtered Brita Pitcher from Walmart and now use that to get my 8-10 glasses of water for the day. : )

I will also be trying out these smoothies for breakfast idea. So, you could even do that..

Step 4: Exercise. You do not have to exercise every day. Nor do you have to do it for an hour, or hours. How I started out was. I took every thing VERY slowly. I slowly moved away from soda beverages. I slowly started to put in a certain amount of time to work out.

First, I started out with five minutes. & that same night, I was just so pumped that I moved up to another five minutes. Then turned it off. Was satisfied, and knew that I got up and moved for a bit.

The next day, I did the same thing... I did this for about 3-5 days.. until I was comfortable, and then I moved to 15 minutes a day. Then moved to 15 minutes ... take about a 2 hour break, and then did another 15 minutes. Eventually I moved to 20, 30, and 45 minutes for my work out days. But once a day.

Eventually started pushing myself to go up to an hour. But sometimes, when you feel like not going that long, it's ok to do so. You just need to work out at 20-30 minutes a day. Even if you have to break that down.. you should work out.

What I eat is: Breakfast - I normally have an egg with either a slice of ham, or turkey bacon strips. Sometimes, I have water with this, or sometimes I have SIMPLY Orange Juice. It's really yummy, and it doesn't have any extra ingredients, etc. Just natural oranges. Sometimes, I'll have Simply Lemonade. Just a small cup.

I tend to stay away from bread, pasta, etc. So, if I have an egg and bacon, I have a banana, apple, or orange with my breakfast.

Snacks: I tend to get the little boxes of those 100 calorie items in the snack isle. However, I try not to resort to these too much because... I'm just trying to eat things that include very little ingredients, and that are not processed foods.

I love Strawberries, pineapples, peaches, cherries, oranges, and apples. So, I try to substitute these with those 100 calorie box snacks instead.

For Lunch: I have a pork chop, or some Tuna with Sunflower oil (It's not the canned stuff, it's the Tuna in a package), or I have fish. I do not get the boxed fish, but I get the fish that's like Tipula.

If I eat a pork chop, I normally have pork beans and a small salad with it. I also try to stay more towards white meats, then read. So, Chicken, Turkey, and Tuna.

Dinner: This depends on what I've had so far for the day. So, I'd probably have some yogurt, and something small... with it.. and try not to eat any meats for the rest of the night.

Other tips:

I ALWAYS check labels, and check the calories per serving, and make sure to measure everything.

You must always watch the calories you put into your body. So, that way you can keep a "tally" of how much you're intake is, and then how much you would need to burn for the day in order to lose some weight for that day.

I also use to track my food, my exercise, and my snacks.

& That's about it... good luck to you all, and remember to love yourself, and that you're beautiful!

You shouldn't lose weight because of others, or because you want to be SUPER skinny. You should lose weight because YOU want it, and because YOU want to be A HEALTHIER you.

Do not go over board. You shouldn't lose a tremendous amount of weight that makes you unhealthy, the whole point was to BECOME healthier... do not make yourselves sick.

I see how you have spread across the foods, but I am a really picky eater is there some way i could lose weight but not have fish and like eggs and stuff, or a way so I like the stuff most stuff I hate, like spit out hate.....what eles could I eat so I can lose some waight i weigh 150, is that fat? (im a teenager) im also 5'4 do you have any other suggestions...anyone??? Hi there I'm 21 weight 175 5'2 tall, I have been struggling to lose weight I have two baby boys a 6 year old and a 1 year old. Before getting pregnant with my first I used to weight 115 after I had my first I got to 170 stood there for almost 2 years, after I split up with his dad I went into an extreme depression and Los 50 pounds in less than 2 months. I got missed periods so I had to take birth control pills to regulate it and that made me gain 20 pounds. By the time I got pregnant with my second I weighted 145 and gained back to 175 and now I'm stuck, I tried Zumba, workouts dieting and nothing seems to work, I don't know is its because I had a c section with my second cause with my first it was vaginal and it wasn't that hard to loose weight, now I feel I'm getting bigger, in short and thick, have booty and legs but the problem is my belly arms and legs. I need advice, help!!!!!

@ Jezzabel, I understand exactly how you feel.... I was over weight as a child. You need to talk with your parents about how you are feeling and how you desire to lose the weight. Any maybe they could take you to talk with a your doctor about putting you on some type of diet plan....

You will have to work at it though. Losing weight isn't easy and in order to keep the weight off once you lose it, will be something you will have to work hard at for years to come... Good luck sweetie... I pray that you could find the help you needs.

So, I'm 16 I'm about 5"4 and I weigh 155 :/ I'm trying to lose 20-30 pounds before summer starts because some friends of mine who have really great bodies want me to swim with them. Plus I've always been self conscious about my weight. If I cut out all pop, and other sugary drinks, and only drink water how much could I lose from that? I also plan on watching what I eat and eating smaller portions. I also have gym class 3 days a week and we do pretty intense workouts for 40 minutes like run a mile, 80 sit-ups and 100 jump ropes with an 8min cap. If I add in my own exercises at home like squats and sit ups for an hour a day, could I reach my goal? I'm really desperate for my goal to be met :/ I just really want to feel like I fit in...

Hi, my name is Tiffany. Since I've been in a committed relationship and started living away from my parents, I have gained 30 pounds or so. I was so scared when I went over 200 pounds (I am 20 turning 21 this fall) .. This month I have started working and I have been going out to fast food restaurants less and less. Thank goodness. My weight is now 195. I am 5'8 1/2 and I want to be a healthy weight. My goal is 160-175 somewhere around there. so I hope I can lost 30 pounds or almost 30 pounds in 30 days. I'm very excited to try this. Maybe I can add some weight loss pills. I know it is bad, but I don't use them everyday. Just when I remember i'll have 1 a day. I really want to look healthy before winter. Winter always scares me because I always gain winter weight. :( ~~~Everyone is beautiful!!!

Right now I am 5'7" and 191.6 pounds. I started at 198.6 on August 28th 2013. I know my target is about 140 pounds. I have been gaining around 15-20 pounds a year ever since 3rd grade which I know is unhealthy. I exercise by doing 30 minutes of dancing on just dance 3 before every meal. I eat around 800-1300 calories a day, and drink water at least 8 times a day and whenver I am thirsty. I have already lost 7 pounds ever since I started this new lifestyle and I am planning to lose 70 more pounds in 6 or 7 months max. After I have reached my goal weight of 122 (under my normal) I will start doing crunches & etc. to have some muscle.

How much muscle do you think I need, and whst else do think I can do to lose fat?

P.S. I am turning 12 this October and I sometimes exercise besides the 3x a day I already do. I REALLY WANNA GET SLIMMER!

Count calorie and your carbs!!.workout 4 times a week for about 40 min weights first then cardio. I am a guy I weight 216 I did this and dropped 14lbs now me and my girl are gonna workout together so we could lose weight n for support

well i am 13 and i weigh about 170 or alittle less. i am one of the fattest girls in my grade sadly.... i was hoping i could lose 50 pounds before the end of the school year or in 2months would be to die for. I always had that image in my head of the skinny me wearing dresses and skirts but i just wear jeans. I remember as a child my dad said don't tell me when you are 13 and complaining that you are fat from that chicken nugget. haha i guess its kinda funny cuz that is what i did.i am fat and i have a huge butt cuz of my mother. i have hips that are huge ... also from my mom and i have love-handles(chichos) and a belly from my dad i really need to lose weight so i wont be called fat anymore. and some people are really rude to make people want to kill their self just cuz they r alittle overweight... well anyone please help me i am on the verge of giving up

Im 16 & weigh 140 and 5'9 I recently lost 20 pounds by going to the gym. I mostly lift because I want to gain muscle and since I have fat and don't have to bulk up I could just cut down and make it in to muscle. Do these 3 steps actually make you loose 30lbs in 30 days? I want to try it my goal is to weigh 190 and just lift till I get the body I want. Im thibking of buyingsome ssupplements from GNC called HD or B4 . It suppose to make you burn fat a lot faster. I have gained so much weight in the lasy five years, maybe between 45-60 lbs of fat. I am disgusted with my weight and looking in the mirror kills my self esteem. I have tried diets and end up quiting weeks later due to hunger and financial issues. I drink 5-6 12fl oz water bottles a day which is more than 8 glasses. I switch to salads and healthier snacks and have tried working out but i end up stopping for some reason. i am so tired and desperate. i am short and feel i am way to heavy for my height of 5'2. i always feel ugly and have difficulty going out and shopping. i am depressed most days and think of myself as an unattractive woman. i need help. i have a lot kf flabby parts on my body that i never use to have before, my arms absolutely break my heart when i see them. i hate to take showers because i see myself and feel sick. i really need some tips that i will use everyday and not quit because ive used and quit dozens of diets and things. help me someone plz...

Hey I am a freshman and I am 161 pounds at 15. I am not trying to be weird but all of you with boobs need to factor that into your weight. Also one summer i did not eat for almost two weeks and the weight i lost came back and doubled. Now i am trying to take the weight off for the swimming portion of pe because i am 5'2" and disgust myself.If i hadent starved for 2 weeks i would not be this weight. to all you DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF you will only work ten times as hard to take it off again my grandmother always says work smarter not harder.

I also know some tips that can work :)

#1- Add more fiber to your diet 25 grams the least amount. You can use benefiber and eat lots of whole grains. It keeps you full an also helps plenty with your digestive system.

#2- Take your time when you eat! Eat for at least 20 minutes in an eight inch plate. Don't use a bowl.

#3- Do endurance and cardio exercises in order to strengthen your core and build endurance.

#4 When going out to eat, place half of your food in a to go plate and eat what is on your plate.

#5 Add more greens and colorful vegetable to your diet. You can try a Mediterranean or Indian vegetarian diet.

#6 drink from a skinny glass.

#7 also try walking for 30 minutes.

#8 turn your chores into exercises

#9 drink 8, 8 oz glasses of water. (4 Poland Spring or regular water bottles, water bottles are 16 oz)

#10 don starve your self unless you want your body to collapse

#11 smile more and call yourself beautiful every morning :)

#12 If someone says something negative about you shout I AM DROP DEAD GORGOEUOS or something positive about you ;D
